Hello 2011. I'm off to a good start -- stationary bike, flexibility, crunches this morning. I hate exercise, but I only lost ll lbs. last year. I think making myself exercise will help me lose 30 lbs. this year. Here's hoping!

It's hard to think of snow today. It's supposed to reach 65 degrees. But on Saturdy, it's back to normal temps -- low of l7 and high of 40.

That used to be fun when Our little ones were growing up every years we would go to the mountains where the snow was ...Hot Chocolate and all....we actually went up to Mt. Hood where they let you cut your own trees and got one but that was a once in a life time for it was so scary the way cars, trucks were sliding into each other..I remember putting my hands out the truck window and punching this other vehicle sliding into us over and it worked...never so glad to be home that year..

YOu ahve a emoticon time and enjoy..

George suggested this morning and we get our stuff done here and head up to Yarnell to see the snow fall and probably spend New Year's Eve and maybe even New Years Day! So now I'm all packed and ready and he's still fooling around getting a haircut and looking around in some grocery store. So when he ever gets back we'll leave.

Amber's first time to see snow. That should be funny! Happy New Year everyone -- see you in 2011!

Christmas decorations are packed away until next year. I didn't lose much this year, but I am down a total of 11 lbs. I've joined some good challenges and hope to lose 30 lbs. next year. I've already started excercising 15-30 minutes a day UGH! My eating habits are pretty much a healthy way of life. I do indulge at times, but not frequently. Happy New Year and much success meeting goals in 2011!!

As the year draws to a close, some of us will give a sigh of relief, others will hate to see it go -- for me lots of good things happened during 2010, but I do expect 2011 to be as good or better.

As far as my healthy lifestyle is concerned, my weight has shown a steady decrease each year that I've been on here, perhaps not as big of a decrease as I would like, but nevertheless it is going down and that's the name of the game! Not only is my weight going down but my energy level has stayed high. I won't say it has increased, because the older you get (I'm 72) it seems the less energy you have and the less you get done -- but I've always had high energy, and mine has not decreased as alarmingly as some of my friends, and for that I thank my healthy lifestyle.

May each of you see the end of the year in good health and with a degree of happiness -- and I hope 2011 holds all that you are hoping for.

I have what I consider to be a real problem ...... I have gas! I've noticed it more and more the older I get. When I was 60 I don't remember it bothering me at all, at 70 I noticed it was a problem once in a while, but now at 72 it seems EVERYTHING I eat gives me the same problem. I've tried eating Beano before putting a morsel of food in my mouth. I've tried chewing the pink tablets that are supposed to relieve gas AFTER you've eaten. But I still have gas -- so I decided to try and keep track of the food I eat. Yesterday 1/2 a chicken/walnut sandwich and a cup of chili at Paradise Bakery, and for my dinner a chocolate/banana smoothie. It bothered me all evening. It seems to subside around midnite or so and doesn't bother me until mid-afternoon the next day. Does anyone have any suggestions??????

The fact that it is summer should have no bearing on you receiving emails from your grandson -- knowing kids they are on the computer constantly, summer or winter. Send him an email -- make it short and friendly. I'll bet he will send you a reply! They get on the computer for facebook and My Space -- or anything else they are interested in. By the way, if he is on Facebook, you might consider joining too and then you'll be able to keep track of what is going on in his life.

I have 6 grandkids an one great grandson. They all live here in the same town, so no need to have them stay more than a night or two. So this isn't a problem for me.

Well, at 72 I didn't have to worry about the age thing and the fact that you couldn't have children under 16 with you for longer than 2 weeks wasn't a problem either. Most grandkids that I know would be bored silly living with a "senior" for more than the allotted two weeks.

But I do like the communities that have all ages -- because when there are kids around it gives me someone to feed my cookies to. lol

I live in an area of what started out as vacation homes but now a lot of people are living here full time. Many of the residents are over 55. I've gotten to know some people in three years but there are still a lot to meet.

Yep, you are not a senior until 55 in all of these places in all the states I have gone to and no children can stay with you longer than two weeks or you get a notice if the lady lord fines out or any complains. Usually two weeks is the longest vacation for most schools and that is at Christmas time. OH....summer is longer. Well that's why they call it seniors only living. So I just decided it's not for me for if I want to have a grandchild longer and they aren't bothering anyone they should be able to stay.

I used to live in a 55+ community, and they were all separate homes. What made it nice was the recreation centers (there were 4 of them) and all featured swim pools, gyms, and craft/misc. classrooms. But now I am living at my boyfriend's home and it is in a regular community -- however, our neighbors are very aware of where we are at all times.

The age requirements for the one I live in is 55 yrs. old & up, so some of us are "young" seniors. It is for independent living only and is not a nursing home -- just regular apartments for older people. It is good to be here.

Sorry that you're ill. I live in a senior apartment bldg. with 44 apartments. It's great for socializing. We all know each other. Have monthly potlucks and Monday morning coffee. Makes us like a family which some of us are lucky enough to have close by and others don't. However, everyone's privacy is respected when it comes to visiting each other -- no unwanted company. It's a great place!! We have Christmas and New Years events planned.

We had a neighborhood Christmas get-together Friday and it was a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it -- we had about 30 or more people come by and some of them George didn't even know although he's lived here for 15 years.

Unfortunately the next day (starting in the middle of the night) I was sicker than a dog and stayed in bed the entire day! emoticon

The Christmas tree is beautiful -- is it yours? I'm glad it doesn't have to be a day that they specify as that always worries me -- like it's looming over my head. However, I am a procrastinator so it will probably get done more toward the end of the week.

As some of you know, I've been taking an online college course regarding Classical Music. Just took 3 tests, one was Review Questions, another crossword, and the 3rd was an actual quiz. I got an A on all of them. Now my mind is free to concentrate on the party Friday! The class will be done next week, so the only thing next week is to do the FINAL -- and you can choose your own day to do it as long as it's done by the 17th! I'll be sooooo happy to see the end of this.

MAINLADY, Good luck with your surgery. I had both of mine replaced (one year apart). Of course, it hurts for about a week or two, but, the more you do your therapy, the better you will feel.

I'm going to friends house for Christmas lunch and my son's for Christmas dinner with the family. Hope I can stick with portion control at least. I'm doing a HO HO HO Spark Team program where I say no to 3 temptations every day. This should help during the holidays!

MAINLADY - live it up for Christmas cause you'll be sort of immobile for a few days, and maybe not feeling up to par at all with the therapy and all.
Best Wishes on the upcoming surgery. Some breeze right through it and for others it takes awhile. So hope you are one of the speedy ones!

MAINLADY! Hope you have a Merry Christmas...even if it is going to be quiet. The place where my Daughter works is putting staff on leave w/o pay...so she'll be here at home for 10 days..the longest time we've spent together since she left for college. Should be interesting. We did get 8" of snow here...so everything looks very holiday-like. Very cold...will get to 17 degrees today and down to 5 degrees tonight. BBBBRRRRrrrrrr!

Family will not be coming for Christmas this year, so it'll be just me, hubby and the dog. I plan on cooking a standing rib roast so will probably invite our neighbors over to eat with us. I have total knee replacement scheduled for January 3rd so Christmas will be low-key this year.

Sorry to be so late -- I was out of town and couldn't get to a computer. Hopefully if it happens again someone else will start the new month's chat for me!

I wonder what everyone has planned for Christmas. For me I believe my BF and I will just enjoy each other's company and not get together with kids or any other large group of people. We went to one of his relatives for Thanksgiving and there must have been at least 35 people there -- too many to suit me! But the food was delicious!

So won't everyone write and share how you will be spending Christmas?

May everyone have a wonderful December! Eve

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!
