Good Morning, Rita! Thanks for posting and helping us to get to know you.

I think one of the easiest forms of exercise, even for beginners, would be walking. Even if it is to just walk around your yard, it is a beginning. I know many people who combined small amounts of walking as their primary exercise with good eating habits -- and they took off tremendous amounts of weight in that manner. Walking is definitely my primary exercise because I can do it even when I am at my summer home -- no equipment needed, and my dog loves to go on walks too!

Rita,

I really enjoy walking. I go early or late when it is cooler. I started out literally walking past the house next door (I was recovering from major surgery). Each day I would go a bit more. As I was able to walk a long way, I would head out away from my house and go as far as possible, then I was forced to do the entire walk again to get home. This technique worked because I get very bored with exercise easily. I would walk away from home until I was bored; then I had to do double that to get home.

Good luck. Find something you like if possible and if not find something like my walking that you can tolerate.

I am getting used to retirement slowly. Tomorrow I am going to do warm water exercises and mail thank you notes out for my retirement gifts. I will also plant some flowers. I still cant get around to doing much around the house or care to do so. I hope I have more energy as I lose weight. I like my mornings but in the pm I am bored and dont want to do anything. I am glad I am a member of Sparkpeople so I can review the website in the evenings. As I try to increase my exercise maybe evenings will get better. Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the message, Anne -- and I'm so happy for you to see you reached your goal. I should be very close to mine by the end of the year, or perhaps even by the end of the summer.

I plan on spending a LOT of time in Yarnell now that I have the opportunity. I believe the altitude is a bit lower than in Payson -- but still very nice and I can take my dog for a walk anytime I please, plus I am busy working in the yard and just generally kept busy doing stuff in the house. Decorating, in the process of having it reflect "me" a bit more. I love this sort of thing. And it's kind of neat to be an influence in guiding a person who is new to the healthy lifestyle!

Eve--

I played pickleball again this morning and it was hot but not too bad. We were able to play the last few games on a court with shade and it was really not too hot. The nice thing about Florida is that the sun is hot but if you can get into some shade it is generally pretty nice.

Tonight rain is coming and is is cool and breezy. I was able to get in a 30 minute walk and it was heavenly.

Tomorrow we are going to step-daughter #1's house to celebrate father's day. I am taking my own food because I am in the middle of a special diet experiment. What I eat is not important--having family time is.

I am pleased for you that you can get out of the heat whenever you like. Step-daughter #3 lives in Payson, AZ. She really loves that it is so much cooler there than down in Phoenix. We were out to visit a few years ago and it is very nice there.

Wow! Good for you Anne! What fun also to be buying a new car!! Way to Go!

I'm soooo lucky, I now have a place to get out of the heat anytime I want. I'll tell you all about it a little at a time! Up in the coolness right now. (using the computer at the Library) lol

Eve,

Enjoy the mountains. It is hot here but I just played pickleball for 90 minutes. I am now at a new low weight and I am really happy.

We are doing our volunteer work today and tomorrow I do believe we will be buying a new car. emoticon

emoticon Terrific news, Anne! Isn't it great when we have some good stuff in our life that we can share? So much nicer than having to write about how we are down in the dumps or doing poorly! But it all evens out in our lives.

I'm off to the mountains again. It seems that the older I get the less I can tolerate this heat. And another thing is that when it's hot I can't get in my daily walks as easily -- just too hot. Like this morning I got up extra early and was walking at 5:30 but it was already 77 degrees. I got in 2 miles!! So I am pleased with myself today!

Today is a good day. I am motivated, I am on-plan, and I am feeling like myself again. DH had 2 doctor's appointments today and both went really well. He was released and can resume all activities regarding his broken collar bone. It is healing well. The urologist, a specialty that we have been seeing often the past 18 months is pleased and will not need to see us for a year. emoticon

emoticon I'm really sparked today cause when I stepped on the scale I saw a number I haven't seen in a long while = 143.4

Don't know how that happened, especially after my few days vacationing and then eating out -- but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! Yipee!

Thanks for the advice Anne!

Just returned home from the mountains -- and....as I have nothing in the house for a salad I am eating out not that I'm complaining about that!! One of my blogs was on the "Favorite Blog" thing and I have been overwhelmed by the comments. I've always tried to acknowledge them, but wow! with over a hundred and still going, I'm swamped! I love it, but what do you do in a case like this?

I am home and the trip went really well. No problems with anything. Saw a lot of relatives and was able to spend time with my friend.

It is good to be home.

I finally got a call about 8:30. They just forgot they still needed to let us know the timing. Completely understandable. The funeral is Wednesday so my concern about Monday is over. I got a flight and we fly out Monday.

I am off to bed now.

Ann, I know it is hard when you are a great distance away and someone dies - there are so many things to think of, arrangements to be made. But to the family there where your uncle is, there is probably chaos. I know I had a hard time figuring out the exact date for the funeral when my husband died. It is difficult to try and remember that people from out of town (state) have to make arrangements when we are grief stricken.

Try to have some alone time during all this stress and just meditate on the fond memories you have of him and know that you will hear soon and your plans will work out.

Hugs to you, Eve

Eve,

Congratulations on seeing the scale go down. Today was a sad day and I realized that there are many things more important that the number on the scale. I am going to continue to do what I can but I may be in maintenance mode for a while.

My uncle died today and I am waiting to hear when the funeral will be to try to get a flight up for my sister and I. If we can go, I also want to go and see my best friend who is not well. I am antsy because I cannot "do anything" until I hear from my cousins about the funeral. He died at 4:30 this morning and I am finding it difficult to believe that they haven't finalized a day for the funeral yet. But they are grieving and very few of us have to fly in. It is hard to think of all that when you have just lost your dad.

Thank you, Ann, for getting our June Chat thread started, I must be procrastinating again. lol -- it's sometimes hard to keep up with 5 Teams, so I do appreciate the help!

After waiting for 6 days for a change in my scale reading, it finally dropped by .4 this morning to a new reading of 144.6 so I'm happy with that. It is always nice to have the reassurance of a lower number on the scale when you've been working hard.
Also, a pair of shorts that I just bought yesterday at Costco in size 12, now seem to hang on me, so I am going back to buy another pair in a 10 -- if they are a bit tight right now, I'm sure they will fit me soon as I make my way down! (Being optimistic!)

I recommitted to following my food and exercise plans on June 1. I ate at the lowest range of the calorie allowance and exercised well. My reward was the scale going up twice. This morning it says 150 I number I really didn't want to see again. I am still eating in my calorie range but yesterday I went all the way to the top of it. I am still exercising but the weight work at the gym doesn't seem so important today.

I will not give up but I am not trying as hard as I did earlier in the week.

I hope everyone is having good success in June.
