It's been fun looking over the past few posts on here and I realize that yes, we can and DO learn a lot on SP. I can't think of a site I have been on that has continued to hold my interest the way SP has so there must be something here. I am starting into my third year on SP and love it as much now as I did in the beginning.

Another nice thing about the learning process on here is that it grows as we do. At first we were all excited about tracking our exercise minutes or perhaps the food tracker. But the more we progress and the closer we get to our goals, or even those of us who have reached them -- we find there are still hints and strategies we can put to work for us to maintain, lose the last 10 pounds or whatever! And for me, I will never tire of seeing and trying the new recipes that pass through my emails on a daily basis.

Also, the closeness displayed by the people you meet as we share our common interests seem as real as the gal living down at the end of the block. Is this just me? Or has the same thing happened to you?

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!

I love learning new things and SP is a great place for doing that. I also love sharing what I have learned and SP is a great place for doing that too.

I like to talk about what I am doing to lose weight and get healthy but realize my friends and family only want to hear so much so I come the SP where folks celebrate with me.

It is a lovely day, life is good, God is good, and I am very happy. I wish the best in life to all.

There are so many lessons we can learn on this blog. We learn how to overcome difficult situations from fellow Spark People. We learn how to be prepared so we do not get off track. We learn how to avoid getting drawn into making poor decisions. that we will regret later. We learn how we are accountable for our decision and we see the results of staying focused to make our goal. I am so thankful for the wisdom that is offered here.
Have a blessed Sunday

I am in the process of doing some work at my house. My nephew and I tore out the carpet and tile everywhere but the master bedroom and the bathrooms and we installed hardwood floors; then we decided to paint (he went home for a bit to take care of some business so I have been doing the painting) and now we need to do all the finish work. Hopefully in a few days I will have my home back rather than a construction zone.

I retired at age 48 (I am now 63). I got married after being single for 27 years and DH retired so I did too. I live in an over 55 community in central Florida and definitely live the good life.

Hi everyone! I was worried about having gone out to lunch yesterday, but when I stepped on the scale this morning it was more good news! I lost another 1.8 pounds! Wow! Can hardly believe it -- maybe I am starting to LIKE the stairs here at my daughters.

Hi Scotmamma, Good for you going to the gym. You'r a better woman than I am. AnnAnn63, are you about to retire soon? 77 , partly cloudy with late afternoon showers. Possible severe weather through the night. Babysat today, 4/23, so I'm tired. I'll turn in early tonight.

YOU definitely have a lot more energy than me -- made me tired to even think about grands the age of yours. Whew!

I've been going to the gym on a much more steady basis than when I was home. For one thing it is right down at the end of the block, so it is very handy and that helps. Everything has been going smoothly again on my weight loss, so I'm happy about that. Today I was down another .6 so it keeps me motivated (I'm the type that needs reassurance)!

Everyone have a beautiful day -- still cool and windy here, but not quite as bad as it was for the past two days -- tomorrow the temp is going back up to 73 so that will be terrific. And it will be a very busy day for me also. And....the end of my first week here.

It'ss 55 out this morning, highof 72 today, with a chance of severe weather (tornadoes) this evening here in north central Arkansas. I have been enjoying retirement, but I still babysit my twin 3 yr. old grandsons and 4 yr. old granddaughter 3 days a week. I did even when I worked. Don't know how I did it. I worked 12-hr. shifts every Sat. & Sun. & every other Wednesday. Just thinking about it makes me tired now. Congrats, to those who are exercising and losing weight. I consider chasing after the grandkids as exercise and I'm eating pretty healthy. I'm addicted to the scale and weigh daily, but only count the Friday weigh-in as "official". The darn scale won't budge -- stays at 210. That's one reason I also belong to the Turtle Team. emoticon

A cold windy day today (57 was the high) and while to some of you it may not seem bad, in Phoenix we have already had 90 degree temps. It's actually the wind that I object to, really raises dust and stuff that are hard on my eyes.

The good news is that I've been going to the gym each day and today the scales rewarded me with a two pound loss -- I could hardly believe my eyes. Last night before going to bed I was stupid enough to step on the scale, a habit I do now and then when at home -- the scale said 152. OMG!!! But.....I had just finished drinking 2 large glasses of Crystal Lite....and you know what? I must have gotten up about 20 times! It seems like every 15 minutes I was running to the bathroom -- glad it was right in the room and not down the hall. haha Guess it was worth it when I saw the 2 lb. loss. Tough on the sleep though!

Glad Amber is behaving herself!

I've been weighing myself daily but then I start getting too intimate with what time I pee and poop and how much, etc., LOL so I back off some and just work on eating less/better.

I'm getting ready to go out for our pizza night and trying to figure out not only what I'll eat but what I'll drink! I've decided I'm not doing any alcohol at all this week (just this week) or any OTC drugs to see how differently I feel and sleep and to see what happens if things are "optimal" and I'm taking my medicines correctly, etc.

I just used the nutrition tracker to look up "shirley temples" to drink (hey, worked when I was 5 didn't it?) but more sugar and calories than I want so I looked up ginger ale and that's better. I keep waffling about tea, either iced or hot; I don't really want any additional caffeine, especially around dinner, even though it's not much, as I often have sleep problems as it is. Water strikes me as too boring, especially in this surrounding/situation and I was going to have their great spinach salad but they have a lot of cheese on it and I'm lactose sensitive and I could take a lactaid as that would not be OTC drug, just a natural enzyme that wouldn't mess with anything else and would make sure my insides weren't messed up (I'm not allowing any Pepcid's as they can potentially mess up my thyroid meds and otherwise influence things in ways I want to experience "natural" this week) but. . .

Well, I have another hour to think about it; I know their menu by heart :-)

Hi Everyone!

My daughter had put tile in her entire downstairs since the last time I was here, and it is a Godsend! I no longer have to worry that my dog will smell the dog she used to have and "claim her territory" or for whatever reason they do their thing. Although she is sooooo good this trip I can't believe it. Her backyard is not fenced and not once has Amber even tried to leave the patio area -- and she loves the freedom to come in and out as she pleases.

I didn't lose an ounce -- at least not on her scale, with my own cooking yesterday, and it could be that I did not eat ENOUGH calories. It still seems very strange to me that such a thing can be true, but I have seen it happen first hand, so I know it IS true.

One nice thing about hardwood floor or all tile is that an area rug can make a room take on a nice warm welcome look -- and when you want to change the looks of a room, simply move that rug to a different room. So much versatility!

All of you have a terrific day! Eve

Gayle,

The floors are in but we decided to paint all the rooms so I am working on that. My nephew is coming back on Friday and he will help me finish the painting and do all the finish work like cutting and installing the quarter round to finish the floor. He also will help be get all the furniture back in place. Hopefully things will all be completed by early next week. I haven't made any decisions yet about area rugs and will not even think of it until after I get back from VA/NY trip.

Thanks for asking.

Hi Eve, Pat and Ann

Eve, I hope you are enjoying the vacation. It will be over before you know it and then you'll get back to your own routine of doing things.

Ann, Are your floors finished yet. I know it's a big job. Are you going to put any kind of room carpeting on them?

Pat, congratulations on your new retirement. Hope
you enjoy it. I know I do. It just seems that most of my road trips are to the doctors now. lol.

Glad everyone is okay and well.

Hugs and blessings to all,
Gayle

Yesterday was the last day of "enduring" my daughters cooking -- and I say that 'tongue-in-cheek' as it is good, but disastrous for my weight.

Last night it was chicken parmesan, pasta with home made sauce and garlic bread -- made the old way of frying in olive oil (too much) after rolling in egg and Italian bread crumbs. Good -- but WOW!

I stepped on the scale this morning -- only ate two meals yesterday (neither healthy according to me) and was up .4 to 149.2 not too happy with my weight so far on vacation.

Saturday: 149.4
Sunday: 148.8
Monday: 149.2
But now Renee (daughter) has left for Spain, so I started on "my" way of cooking, so we'll see what the scales reflect starting in the morning.

Hi Margo! Yes, I drove to Vegas cause I like to have my own car when I am different places, plus I was bringing my Scottie along with me. I could have driven my daughter's Crossfire while here, but it holds only 2 people and it's much more expensive than mine -- would have made me a little nervous. I like fast cars, but only when they are mine.

After getting over the initial shock of her scale weighing heavier than mine, I've settled down to see how much weight I can lose on hers while I'm here as it will be a little over 2 weeks. I can use the stairs in her home to my advantage.

Hugs to all -- Eve

Hi, Gayle and Ann.

Do you drive over to Vegas, Eve, or take a hop flight? On our honeymoon we lost our RV's transmission in Kanab, Utah and had to "coast" down to Vegas and stayed at the Tropicana but in the middle of the night, someone threw a rock through the front window of the van and ransacked our RV looking for guns, money, drugs, etc.; my husband had to find a place to get the transmission repaired and a window guy to come during the process and replace the window :-)

All day affair where my husband sat in a convenience store next to the transmission place, eating hot dogs and playing their one or two slot machines, LOL (he'd won $100 the night before on one machine in the hotel).

Have a great trip Eve. When my DH and I go away, we
always go on line to stop and start our mail delivery. Saves time waiting in line to do it, and it works very well.

Have fun with those grandkids. Wow! a trip to Las Vegas with their granny. Now that sounds like fun.

Ann, thanks for reminding me to be persistent. I know it will take time. It didn't get on overnight
and it won't come off overnight.

One day at a time and one step at a time. I just
am so sorry I didn't keep it off, the last time.

Oh well, no use crying over what is done.

Have a great evening, to all.

Hugs,
Gayle

My granddaughter could probably dress up and put on make-up and pass for 21, but no way my grandson could and in Vegas they are very fussy about being underage and gambling. Too bad they can't outlaw it for some of the seniors too -- many of them lose the shirts right off their backs. Being I lived in Vegas for a number of years I am not addicted to gambling in the least, so I will be lucky if I even see the inside of a casino while I'm there - but you don't have to even go to a casino to gamble, all the grocery stores have slot machines -- heck they may even have them at the gas stations! lol

Not packed yet -- like to wait until the last minute for everything (procrastination) but today is a great day just for me and I'm enjoying it. Post office is next on my agenda so they will hold my mail, then to Sprouts for some grapes, which are on sale for only 77 cents per pound!

Eve, good luck with your supervisory job tomorrow :-) I guess you're all packed? Too bad they're teens and you can't just give them a roll of quarters and tell them to have a good time, LOL.

I still remember when gambling was legal in Southern Maryland in the 1950's and we had a nickel slot machine at the tiny mom and pop store at my grandparent's beach cottage community. We'd walk down every couple evenings, after "supper" and I'd get a quarter and, since it was out of the way, I could either use the slot machine and hope to make "more" money or buy candy. If I was just staying alone or with a cousin for the week with my grandparents and lost the money in the slot machine, my grandmother would feel sorry for me and give me another for candy but if my stepmother was with me, no additional quarter if I lost it :-)

It's raining here in PA. It rained all day. Not a hard rain but a light drizzle. I got the dog out while it was just starting to drizzle for her morning walk.

I had woke up with a headache and it lasted until about noon. I had taken something for it. I get migraines sometimes.

After lunch my DH and I went to see some friends that
are in an assisted living facility. We had a nice visit and made plans to help them get some errands
done on Friday, since neither can drive anymore.

When we came home, we ate dinner and my DH went to a meeting and I went shopping. Sorry to say that I didn't buy anything. Everything looked awful on me. I really need to get this weight off again. I don't know why it isn't coming off.

I go to see my cardiologist tomorrow. I will see if she will let me start more exercising besides walking the dog.

Anne, I bet you will be thrilled with your new wood floors. We have some wood floors in our house and I like them much better than the carpeted ones.

Eve, your trip to Las Vegas sounds like fun. Enjoy
yourself and don't gamble too much. Although it sounds like you'll be busy with your job of watching over those teens.

I am going to go to bed early. Hope everyone had a nice evening.

Hugs,
Gayle

It's so nice to read how well everyone is doing! And Gayle, I ended up having my Mammogram yesterday also. When I went to the doctor I hadn't planned on it, but he said to schedule one, and they were already taking appointments for June! Then she did say there had been a cancellation and one was available in one hour at 12:30 -- I took it! Did a bit of shopping during my hour wait -- and when I went back I was in and out within 20 minutes!

Friday I'll be leaving for Las Vegas and my 2-week job of "supervising" two teens! Good luck to me!

Long day again today but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Tomorrow we finish all the major work on the floor in the AM and them we buy paint. Wednesday is a day for doing a few handyperson chores and then Mike is off for 10 days. I will have lots to do to get ready for his return but I can pace myself rather than going non-stop.

I feel great, I am not sleeping as much as usual, I am really thrilled at what I can do, and I love the way my house is looking. Hard work apparently agrees with me.

I had my annual Mammogram today. Later had another
Dr. Appointment. Have another one on Wednesday for a follow up on my Heart Cath. last Monday.
Boy, I sure do keep the Dr.'s busy.

It was a beautiful day out today, even the dog got
her walk.

I love seeing all the flowers coming into bloom and the trees getting their leaves. Spring is my favorite time of year.

Hugs and blessings to all,

I had a good day. I have been so busy that I don't even think of food and am working so hard I am burning a lot of calories. The best is that I have a lot of energy. I get really tired but I am pacing myself and not overdoing things and I just keep going like that stupid bunny.

What you are experiencing is inertia. It is a law of physics that moving objects want to continue to move; and stationary objects do not want to start moving. Many times we just need to get started and then it all goes easily. Tell yourself the walk is not negotiable. Just do it for the dog. Then just enjoy.

I'm tired like you, Ann. Sometimes I think I should give up on volunteering at the Library and doing the Caregiver bit. But then I figure if I didn't get out and do things -- pretty soon I'd just get old. As it is I don't do half the stuff I used to do. The key is to keep moving I believe.

Like this afternoon. I was tired after working for the 3-1/2 hour shift, then I ate and took a nap. As I woke up I knew my dog wanted to go for a walk as she has this built in clock or something and knows how we usually do things and what time we do them. I really didn't feel like going for a walk, but if I don't I don't lose weight, sometimes even gain! So I forced myself to get out and go for the one mile or so walk (I haven't checked it with the car yet). When I'm out there I enjoy the walk and the weather is just a delight -- so you tell me why I am so reticent to get out there and "just do it!" Maybe it is human nature, we all tend to procrastinate.

Tuesday is the day that I am a Caregiver in the afternoon hours. I visit with a 92-year old lady. Most of the time I make her bed with fresh sheets.
I iron clothing that has been washed. And if she is not too tired, we go to the Library. Today she was too tired, so we just talked. Have you ever tried to talk for 3 hours straight? Thank God I have lots of memories and lots of stories. She says very little really, but I make her laugh and I know she looks forward to those visits.

The only downside is that by Tuesday evening when I come home I'm mentally bushed and many times do not have the energy myself to exercise. It usually shows up on the scale the next day. I realize it takes a combo of healthy food + exercise to equal weight loss, one alone will not do the job.

Good Luck on that big project, Ann! Hardwood floors can really add a lot of warmth and personality to a home. Hope it turns out as you envision it.

It is a wonderful time of year so do try to enjoy the warmer weather and all the new green things.

I tend to be organized and a bit of a control junkie so the next few weeks will be interesting. I have this big project to remove tile and carpet and replace it with hardwood flooring. My nephew is coming in from VA tomorrow night. I started to micro-plan the days but stopped myself. There are too many variables and too much I don't know yet so I am staying calm and will take it one day at a time.

So I may or may not have time to spend on SP. If I am MIA some days, I am thinking of you and wishing you well.

I am having a lovely day. Church was really good and very full. We just moved into a new sanctuary in February and already are packing it out.

Went to lunch and really didn't eat much. I had a Greek salad and it was very good but also filling. I had the dressing on the side so brought the leftovers home for dinner.

I really should work but my hands are sore and I just don't feel like it. I am considering a bike ride and a day off. I need to find my sunscreen. It is getting really hot and sunny.

I'm cleaning house today and doing my Income Taxes!
It's lovely out, I have the patio door open and I feel pretty energized -- have to take advantage of things like that when they happen!

I am having a good day. I walked Joey early then while DH was watching our Easter parade and visiting the carnival (for the visiting grandchildren) I worked. I got 2 hours in which I find amazing. I am getting stronger each day. My arms are handling the work really well; my hand are a bit sore. I need to wear heavy gloves and I am getting small blisters. Oh, well, work done for today, tomorrow is church at 9am and then Easter dinner out with DH and my sister. I am going to get some work in tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I pray that your procedure on Moday is a complete success and that you will recover quickly and feel wonderful.

Eve-old is a state of mind. Your state of mind is very young. Keep on volunteering. It is a good thing and you will be blessed for doing it.

Yesterday was my birthday. I can't believe I'm 64 already.

Today I went out and bought some plants. I got some
peonys, lily of the Valleys and also a Forsythia Bush.

Now I have to decide where to plan them all.

Today it was 85 degrees here. Tomorrow it is suppose to be the same.

On Sunday, Easter, My DH and I will be having dinner with my sisters and their families.

On Monday, I have to go in the hospital for a catherization. My last stress test showed some
thing not working right.

Everyone have a wonderful holiday.

Hugs,
Gayle

I think it would take more than not volunteering to make you feel old. A lot more. Feling old is a frame of mind and it will take a major disruption to shake you.
Remember, emoticon because you are emoticon and emoticon because you are the emoticon .

Hi there! Sorry to be late getting this post started. Thursday is my day at the Library and I do not have time to get on the computer before I leave in the morning. Tonight I'm really tired, so I do wonder sometimes why I continue to volunteer, but I'm afraid if I give up pretty soon I won't be doing anything. And then I'll start to get old.
