I have been busy pulling weeds. I found the best way to do this is to get a short little seat, just sit down and pull, pull, pull. Think I have most of them out of the front yard now, which is decomposed granite (SW style) and every time it rains in the spring we all get a letter from the HOA tells us we have weeds in the yard. Duh! Rain + warm weather = weeds. Do they ever give us a chance to pull them or spray them? Of course not. It's becoming a pet peeve of mine.

Tomorrow a.m. is my time at the Library, and the one day of the week I have to actually get my butt out of bed early!

I played bridge today--I didn't win but I had fun and it was something different to do. I also took today off from my manual labor project. Tomorrow AM I am going to get back to it and see how much I can do.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Thanks for the suggestion of deep breathing exercises for high BP. Mine is a normal low, but I will get Hubby to do it as his is high. I shall google it, and get him right on it.

I have learned so much here on SP. I love being alive in this wonderful high-tech world of ours. There is sooooo much I wouldn't know if it wasn't for my computer, and the internet.

Yes, Ann -- I think that works as I've tried it at the gym with my heartbeats and deep breathing helps there too. For example if my heartbeat was at 100 and I relaxed my body, took several deep breaths, invariably it will go down to 96 or so.

Certainly can't hurt with blood pressure too. I think that's why I always get a better reading on my second try. I always do it two times in a row, it is always better the second time around, probably because then you are more relaxed.

After I was diagnosed with HBP I do some research on what I could do to lower it and found that deep breathing really helps. I do not do it regularly because I don't remember to do it. (It is a new good habit on my list to accomplish). It is easy, it cost nothing, and it really does work. I can take my BP, do some deep breathing, then take my BP again and it is lower. What I read about it is that doing it helps all the time; not just when you do it.

Hi all -- I don't know if it's because I'm bored or what my problem is, but I've started a new team. It is entitled "Yo-Yo Club" and so for all of us who seem to go constantly up and down, join me on that site and let's see if we can figure out a way to overcome our problem.

It's listed under Weight Issues, or just SP mail me, and I'll send you an invite from there.

Hello All
Well I had a good weekend especially Saturday but now I am dealing with my blood pressure being up there. I put in a call to my doctor but I take enough medication now and I just will not take anymore he will have to change it after a while your system gets used to the meds and just are not working! Also I was wondering if I can go to the gym and just take it easy when my pressure is up so I will ask him as I think it will be ok just be slow and easy about the exercises!!! Well have a great day and please keep me in mind as I struggle with this!

Swelling is all gone on my face (until next time) and I worked out in the yard for about an hour -- it feels so good, and then it looks so good when I'm done! Love doing yardwork!

Will hit the gym this afternoon, then curl up to "Desperate Housewives" tonight.

Have a good day everyone! God Bless!

Many of you have not posted your birthday on our list of birthdays. If you know how to highlight the list and then press control/C, you can then click on REPLY and when your cursor is in the position where you would begin typing, simply press (at the same time) control/V and it will automatically print the list that you have copied. Then you can insert your own birthday where it belongs. Good luck & thanks!

I was scheduled to do a 2 mile Cancer Walk in my community this morning. I planned to take my dog with me. All the advertisements for the walk showed multiple pictures of last year's walk with dogs in some of the pictures. Then this morning the fitness director decided the dogs could not walk and sent people home. I was very disappointed and angry. It annoys me no end with people fail to tell you the rules before you sign up for an event. Last minute surprises are not what I like.

So I skipped the walk and Joey and I walked over to the farmer's market for tomatoes and fruit. He has a doggies carriage and I took it along so he didn't have to walk the entire time. We did over 3 miles and we thought of all the people we know who are under treatment, survivors, those that didn't make it, and the families. I got over being angry. How silly to ban dogs from a walk when any other time they are welcome to walk the same sidewalks. How silly to be disappointed over a walk when I am healthy and my DH and sister are survivors and doing great. Life is good. I am blessed.

Generally anytime you want to lose pounds, they leave too slowly but it is true that the last few go the slowest. You are burning fewer calories as a smaller person and perhaps subconsciously you are looking towards maintenance. You will prevail. You can do this.

Things are good for me. I am doing well with both eating and exercise. I am enjoying the days getting warmer and I am working on a major project and planning a trip.

I have really awful tile in my kitchen. It is pretty enough but it easily chips and over the years it has chipped a lot. Most are really small but when you look at the floor it looks like dirty spots because there is dark ceramic under the top which has chipped off. My nephew Mike is going to help me lay new engineered food flooring in my kitchen, great room, den, and hallways. I started removing tile which is quite a job. I am nearly finished with the small area at the front door entry--then I get to start on the kitchen. Mike is coming April 6th to help me finish the tile removal, do the carpet removal, prep the floor and then lay the wood. It is a floating floor which means no nail or glue. If he doesn't have time to do everything I will have a local carpenter do the finish work.

We have a granddaughter graduating from college on May 16th in Newport News, VA. After the graduation we are going up to NY to see the Adirondack mountains.

So I will be busy, busy for a while.

My best to all.

Good Morning,

Changed the clocks, and I'm happy to see Daylight Savings time. In spite of it being windy, cold, and raining, I'm anticipating Spring.

With the time change, the clock told me I got up at 4am instead of 3am. I don't know what I'd do without my computer! It keeps me company in the wee hours of the morning.

Have a "Happy Sunday" everyone.

I actually bought a new computer a few weeks ago. I had major problems with it twice. I was able to recover both times with only small data losses. But I have so much important stuff on my computer and use it so much I decided to just buy a new one. My old one was over 6 years old which is truly ancient for a PC.

Computer problems started on Saturday, Sunday could not get on at all, and tried again this morning -- NOTHING! I can get emails and answer them, but as soon as I try to go into the Internet it denies it. Windows XP Guardian (which I think is a scam) says I have a trojan something or other. I'm covered by Norton so I don't know why Norton isn't catching it if there is an infection. Wish I wasn't so dumb about computers -- but I am. I need to get someone to help me.

Next step will be to take it to the "big boys" at a computer place. But in the meantime it kills me to be without a computer! What did I do with my time before I had emails and sites to visit?

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!

Hello Everyone. Have a wonderful Sunday. The sun and (son) is shining in the North and the snow is starting to melt. It does a lot for remaining positive. I love the commercial where the actors are dancing and saying "Move Something". I have discovered even if I do not want to or feel like walking there is always a way to incorporate exercise into my daily activities. Soon I hope to have my blood pressure low enough to go back to the YMCA and hit this Silver Sneakers group. Other seniors that exercise daily to stay flexible and healthy. You may want to give it a try. I had my birthday in Jan. and decided to get serious about my health. I am blessed to have as good health as I have with being overweight. I am working on that as we all are. Hope when I reach my healthy blood pressure goal, I will be able to take my my artificial knees for a little run. Have a great week.

My e-mail with SP just plain doesn't work. I have read a lot of posts from people with problems. I read and tried all the suggestions in FAQ about fixing it. Nothing worked--so I sent a message for help and they were totally unhelpful--they referred me to the FAQs that I tried that didn't work. I get no e-mails from SP and I occasionally get one from one of the teams I belong to.

They really need to fix e-mail. They are kidding themselves that it is OK. Who has to look for a fix for e-mail anyplace else? Sorry for venting but it annoys me that they know there are problems and instead of fixing them, they just suggest fixes that don't always work. SP is great and this is my first complaint. I just no longer expect e-mail to work.

I have not seen anyone sign up for the BIRTHDAY MO. except me so far. Do you all get a notification when there is a new post? I thought we'd have all sorts of people on it by now.

Also I'm feeling pretty droopy the last couple of days, but I won't go into that. If you're curious you can read my blog. Ugh! I'm getting tired of living on a roller-coaster, or maybe I just jinx things by talking about them -- maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. Duh! Like that's possible!!!

I had a lovely day. This week as been a busy one with one more busy day tomorrow. I played bridge this afternoon for the first time in a while. It was fun and my partner and I won. Tomorrow is our community yard sale.

Hi y'all. Sun out and was able to take a walk outside for a change. DW and I really enjoyed it. Stopped a Starbucks for a coffee on the way home and enjoyed the light jazz they were playing in the background.

Blessings from Georgia,

Great news! Jack is back..... one of our steady posters. Should aka him as "traveling man."

Today was my day to work at the Library so as usual when I got done I was tired, hungry and came home to eat a bowl of the Organic Tomato/Roasted Red Pepper soup that I get at either Sprouts or Trader Joe's. It is so delicious and only 100 calories per cup.

Nap time followed that, then got up and took my dog for a nice walk.

Feeling good tonight, but don't have any news to share so it's TV time.

DH and I were out early this morning to get him to the lab, then we had breakfast, and went grocery shopping. As we drive, I talk. He generally doesn't say much. I helps me because verbalizing my thoughts helps me understand and "see" things I don't when just thinking. He asked me what I was going to eat for breakfast and I was talking about how I no longer want some of my old favorite foods because the calories are too high and the nutrition too low. I easily decided on a light breakfast. Then I realized that although I have this new way of thinking on what to eat, I am not all the way on how much to eat.

I cannot eat a lot at one time (surgically small stomach) but I can graze all the time. After dinner I tend to get a snack, wait a bit, get another snack, and this goes on until I hit the number of calories allotted for the day. Just because I have the calories, I shouldn't necessarily be eating. The big issue is that the snacks are not as nutritious as meals. I don't know that the conversation today alone will change my thinking on this but I am going to spend some serious time on it. This should be something that I can easily change.

The other great thing is that my shopping trip was a huge success. I love to get deals and coupon. I bought mostly BOGO items and had about $14.00 in coupons. The total I paid was $32.91 but with the sale savings and coupons, I saved $37.79. One of my best savings at the grocery ever.

Generally just a nice day.

I am happy that I met my 5 pound goal for January and again for February. I have been feeling good and staying with my food and exercise plan very well. I am not perfect but I haven't allowed myself to get very far off plan.

My food plan is not a diet, it is how I intend to eat forever. I have a weight goal but as long as I consistently stay on my plan, I am not going to worry about it.

You ladies look wonderful in your pictures. It really isn't important what you weigh as long as you are healthy, happy, and can maintain your loss.

Eve, regardless of what weight you are by your birthday, you're still a winner in my book. You look terrific now and whether you are 5 pounds lighter or 5 pounds heavier you are still going to look terrific!

But your idea about your birthday gave me an idea. I don't celebrate my birthday until October, and now my goal will to be at 135 or less by then. So I have to quit this roller coaster ride and get serious because who knows, I could be planning a wedding!

Yep, better ate than never...guess I am not as dumb as I thought I was..I "found" the March chat!

Wow, having two guys vying for your affection...not a bad place to be! You go , girl! Congrats on making your decision!

I am still treading water & losing a pound or two & gaining it back. Hope that I can break the cycle in March. I have my goal set for my Birthday in June & at this rate, I won't make it...
Have a great Spark day to all!

I'm a little late with this -- maybe better late than never. If this happens again, and you see that with a new month I forgot to get our "Chat for the Month" thread going -- please just start one if you like, always in this same spot if you don't mind.

My weigh-in was a fraction of a pound higher than it was in January and February. Not good to be going in the wrong direction. Guess I was having just too darn much fun with two boyfriends competing against one another the last 2 weeks of February. Oh boy!

But now I've made my decision. I've chosen one over the other -- so are we "going steady?" or do people still do that? Well, I'll keep you guys posted. lol
