My brother called me from out in Virginia by Shenandoah National Park last night to wish me a happy birthday and said he and my sister-in-law had a heck of a time getting home from church Sunday because of all the leafy change lookers clogging the entrance to the Park and roads thereabout.

We're having too coolness and rain today. Think I'll turn up the heat a bit :-)

How time flies when you're having fun! We went on a color tour (leaves) today. The trees are so beautiful right now. It's raining and windy so the leaves won't last long.

Then we spent 3 hours at our favorite hotel swimming and sitting in the hot tub. Our grandson met a nice little girl and they played real good together (both 4 years old).

I'm sure you and your friend will have a nice time. Vacations are always something to look forward to.

Way to go on volunteering at the library. I volunteer at our local hospital in the Gift Shop (that could be expensive!) and the Front Lobby (I get to tell people where to go...oh, yeah).

Life is good. Be happy. Deb

As I was checking out books for Patrons at the Library this morning where I volunteer, I found myself saying "These books will be due on Nov. 5." I could hardly believe my ears -- NOVEMBER! Which means another month has rushed through in our lives like sand running through our fingers! The entire year has zoomed by so fast it's hard to believe.

I will be flying to Dallas, TX on Monday and a friend is meeting me there and I will ride back in a car to El Mirage where I live. My friend had miles and miles of "air miles" so the ticket was at no cost to either of us -- and it will be like a small vacation and give us lots and lots of visiting time. As I have no problem with "talking" for hours on end I'm sure the time will fly by. On Tuesday we are planning on visiting some type of Kennedy Memorial, and although I'm not a history buff, that sounds like something I could enjoy.

A trip is usually tough on one's "healthy lifestyle" and as I'm doing so well right now, I hope this will not hinder me. I think it will be OK, and I can begin to help my friend make healthy choices and get him started living the SP way also. And I think SP will have a new fan and member by the time we reach the Phoenix area.

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!

Hi Tx Eve. My granddaughter Toni-jade aged 13 years is a Cheerleader with the'HOTSHOTS ALL STARS'of Wales and they have competitions all around the UK. With girls aged from 5 to 17 years, never a dull moment! We parents and grandparents are there to care and repair as well as support them and their teachers. Will burn plenty of calories running up and down too. Hope your weather cools down enough to be comfortable.
Have a good weekend.

As the temperatures are finally taking a nosedive here in the Phoenix area, my motivation has gotten a big boost. It's finally nice enough to get up in the morning (even if I sleep in) and go for a walk without getting all hot and sweaty! This morning I got in 1-3/4 miles and hope to go again this evening in just a few minutes. This will help me take off the pounds better than anything!

Thanks for the Birthday greeting! I hope to celebrate this evening, but still eat healthy! I have not been really, really good -- but like you, UK Eve, I also have about 12 pounds to go to reach my goal. Then I'll make a NEW goal.

I think the last 10 pounds is always the hardest to lose -- although none of the pounds are easy!

Waving hello from a beautiful warm day in Texas! Hope that everyone survived the weekend...they are always my downfall...did way to much eating & too many "wrong" foods, so was dreading to weigh in today, but to my surprise, I am still holding in there, only 12 more pounds to go & they are going to be the hardest!

I haven't been able to make the correct adjustments to my sewing machine so that it works properly. My daughter uses it, gets it screwed up, and we trade machines. Usually I can get it working again, but this time no luck. And I never remember to take it with me to the sewing machine shop in my neighborhood to have them look at it. I'd like to do some quilting or something this winter -- just as a diversion. Perhaps a wall hanging or something this time.

Found out today I will probably be taking another few days for travel time on the 28th through the 30th or even the 31st. Back in time for Halloween, so my dog isn't scared out of her wits (cause this time I'm not taking her). I'm getting the little girl across the street to come in and feed her and then watch TV with her for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I see you folks have been busy and moving in the right direction.

Today I've made yet another start.
I've journaled all I've eaten so far
Have kept my fliud intake up and so far so good.
I've even readjusted my ticker to my current weight although it is what I started on Sparks with a year ago ------so now you see why I've started over?
Although yesterday I was 3lbs heavier,so I hope I'll be able to continue with the downward trend.
I'm going to have a glass of the vegetable smoothie I made for breakfast and this will keep me for at least the next two hours while I'm at bible study.

Hi Jack------Nice to see you.Hope all is well with you and yours?

UK Eve------I know what you mean but remember we can make the choice what we choose to do and when ,and for how long, in our retirement-----that's one of the beauties of being a 'retired senior'.

Wow! You guys make me feel soooo much better. With burning 1219 calories, no wonder I was a little bit lighter when I got home! Way to go!

I got a little too comfortable yesterday though, and gained half a pound -- too much comfort food and too little exercise! Walked 2 miles this morning though, so I'm starting the week off right (I don't know why, but I always think of Monday as the first of the week, rather than Sunday)

Have a great week, Retired Seniors! Scotty Eve

Hey Ladies,
Driving a car for 8 hours burns 1219 calories, so use that basis to calculate how much you have burned.

I burned 518 calories doing housework today.

Congratulations, Texas Eve! -- All I've been doing is driving for the past few days it seems, then came home early -- it's complicated so I won't even begin to explain.

Did not gain an ounce while gone though, and that's always good news. In fact I went from 147 to 146.6 and here I thought sitting on my behind driving might see the results go the other way!

Hey! That's terrific UK Eve -- see what I mean about motivation???

Yesterday I just DID NOT have the time for exercise, and diet alone doesn't take off the pounds, so I was up a measley .4 this morning. But it's getting there and today I got in a good 45 minute walk by getting up at 6:30.

Ha! I'm one of those "you gotta show me" people, so tomorrow morning when I get up I will measure and see how tall I am, then again before I go to bed. I guess is you lay around in bed all day you would stay taller then, logically???

I am only a Caregiver for 3 hours at a time, so I've got it made. 12 hours would be brutal! You poor dear!

Hi Scotty Eve
Thanks for that advice, I shall wait until the morning. I usually weigh myself once a week but maybe I should join the Daily Weigh In.
Did you know you are 3/4 inch taller in the morning when you get up as your spine is relaxed and not compressed?
Busy day tomorrow, 12 hours of Caregiving so will be real tired by the time I get home.

Have a good week.

Eve -- if you weigh in first thing in the morning you are at your lightest weight! It is so much more motivational.....you are at your heaviest in the evening just before bed. Just a hint.

You could always join us at Daily Weigh In!

Weather her is sunny intervals with heavy cloud on the horizon, so hoping it doesn't turn into rain.
Been out walking this morning then did laundry and ironing. Some weed control in the back garden done and looking to finish building the raised garden over the next 2 weekends weather permitting.
Will do my weigh in after my shower tonight,so fingers crossed I lost somethin!

Hi ScottyEve, Glad to hear it has cooled down, it will make walking that much more enjoyable for you all. The plant pots greeting you with a flush of colour sounds fabulous. We have little colour now, but great autumnal blushes on shrubbery. Weather here is overcast with light rain but wet enough to prevent any work being done in the garden.

I did online shopping for a new TV unit today which I found in Ikea and take delivery on the 15th. Yet another room shuffle but burning calories too!

I'm feeling so happy about finally getting some cooler temperatures! Now when I roll out of bed I can open the patio door to a wonderful 60 degrees, so both my dog and I are happy campers!!! It means we can take our daily walks and not be dripping wet by the time we get back home.

Of course the cooler temps have other advantages as well. Now I can go to Lowe's and get a bunch of new flowers for the pots on my patio and have lovely colors to please me as I eat some of my meals out there! August and September pretty much finished most of them off -- even with daily watering. You have to be strong to survive the summer in Phoenix!

Hi Team! OK, my birthday is October 19th -- I'm a true Libra, and I will be turning 71 (but feel like about 45). My daughter just turned 46 the beginning of September, so perhaps that's why we're such great friends!

I have high hopes for October, perhaps it will be the month that my dreams come true. One never knows!

Hi Scotty Eve. What date is your birthday as you didn't give that away? Weather here in Wales is dry and sunny although NOT as HOT as yours. Walking is something I love to do also, in fact there is a local club starting up in 2 weeks time on a Thursday afternoon so I shall be joining them. How nice to have Scotty walk with you, so much nicer having company.
Will be preparing for Halloween myself so going to make Toffee.

Hello Everyone!

Here in Phoenix we've all been wondering if the cooler weather of October would EVER roll around, but here it is October 1st and right now at a little after 9:00 it's 70 degrees at my house. My Scotty and I have been on our 1-1/2 mile morning walk, and perhaps it will be nice enough this evening to go on another; getting in 3 miles a day would be great!

October is my birth month also -- but as I'm turning 71 I don't think that's anything to laugh and sing about, but it is another healthy year that I've lived. As long as I'm healthy life is great!

The goblins and ghosts will be out the end of the month, and as I live in a 'mixed ages' community I will be seeing them out in rare form. I think I will station myself at the door with goodies and my dog; she would enjoy that.

Happy October to all!

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!
