We had fall weather for a day or so. Today it's in the mid-70's and the wind is gusting at about 35-40 mph. We live up on a hillside and so when the winds blow, and that's been too often lately, it roars up the hill and pounds the back of our house. It rips leaves and small branches off of trees, knocks over the bird feeders, and bangs the patio furniture on our deck. I get little sleep. (complain, complain ...)I always get cranky when we get hit with the winds. emoticon

Hi Everyone,
It always amazes me to see the variation in the weather through out the world and especially so in the various weather zones in the USA.
Here in Trinidad the hottest it gets is 90 and we complain,I try and avoid going out into the heat if I can help it but it seems impossible most of the time, life has to go on.

Judy----Your kitchen should be fabulous when it is finished. Will I be seeing the renovations on the H&G channel? An encouragement to prepare more healthy meals too.
Have a blessed day everyone.
Roz.

We've had the forecast that even here in Phoenix are temps are destined to drop significantly toward the end of the week. And perhaps stay down in the range of the 80's. How wonderful -- I wait all summer for that very thing to happen!

My energy level will zoom when the weather is cooler.

I think today was the first day of fall for SoCal. Last week, the temps were 100+. As I type this at 3:30 it is 77 outside with a cool ocean breeze. The sun has never completely come out and I love it. Last night I went outside and it was down to 62. What a change from a week ago.

We've had a busy few days. Hiked with our 5-year-old grandson yesterday then took him out for pizza. Today we waited for delivery of a new refrigerator then went to the eye docs to pick up new glasses and then from there to the glass shop to pick out window glass for the bathroom and then to an appliance warehouse for kitchen faucet and range hood. We found the faucet on line for a couple of hundred dollars under what the store near me sold it for. Ordered it. We still haven't settled on a hood. All of this is in preparation for a kitchen remodel. I can hardly wait!

We turned our heat on for the first time this morning. It was 63 in our house today . . . brrrrr!

It has warmed up and the sun is shining. You know what they say about Michigan . . . wait 5 minutes and the weather could change!

Happy fall to you all . . .

Even here in Phoenix the weather is starting to cool down. This morning it was not even 70 when I got up, so I'm really looking forward to October when it will be beautiful -- November even better!!!

Happy exercise days are coming soon! Hugs, Scotty

I envy you the cloudy and rainy. We are cooler today than we've been the whole week. It's 11:50 and the temp is 91. A few days ago it was 100 by noon. We are supposed to take a grandson on a hike tomorrow (there's no school) and he will he disappointed if it's too hot.

Roz, how fun to be on the news! We always love our little bit of fame.

The day my husband turned 62, he was at the National Park office to get his access pass - gets us into NP's free and also some discounts for services and goodies. We were both excited. He always looks for senior discounts. A free bus pass is a nice perk!

We have made the huge step of signing paperwork with a contractor to completely remodel our kitchen. They are going to take out everything, right down to the studs. It will be beautiful once it's finished, but I am not looking forward to 8 weeks of chaos. We've already made some reservations to go out of town for a few days in the middle of the mess. I'm sure we will want to escape.

I'm in Southern California and we are suffering from very unusual heat. It's been 100+ for several days in a row now. We had plans to take our 5-year-old grandson hiking on Monday (it's a school holiday) but I'm afraid if we don't get a significant cooling trend, we will have to do something else. Oh well ...

You all have a great weekend, and stay cool. emoticon

It's been a week since I last visited.
Thanks to all you beautiful ladies for your birthday greetings.
In Trinidad you must be 65 to apply for a free bus pass,so bright and early last Friday I went and applied for mine.I now have to wait 5-6 weeks for it to be processed.

Hopeful.......Many happy returns to your husband hope he had a wondeful birthday last week.

Yesterday we celebrated Republic Day here and I participated in a protest march for the building of a new hospital in our area.I was one of the interviewed persons featured on the 7pm news, felt like a 'celebrity' for a day! LOL!

Have a blessed and great weekend everyone!

One year on vacation we went to the Mall of America. We needed a map to navigate, and DH hated the crowds. It was a huge place, but not somewhere I would want to go to on a regular basis. My DD lived in Minot, ND and tour companies had excursions to the mall. If you live on the plains and have 50 inches of snow in the winter, the MoA would be a treat I suppose.

Yes! It is in Minnesota. I've never been there, it was built long after my time in Minnesota -- I've been a warm-weather person for years and years now.

First I moved to California, from there to Las Vegas, and then retired in Arizona!

By the way DHSPARK -- I'm from Minnesota, known as the Land of 10,000 lakes. As a kid our week-ends were filled with going to one lake or another, either fishing or swimming -- always picnics! What fun those childhood days were!

Wow! Reading the last two posts has made me ashamed at my own level of laziness! I know I will improve when the weather turns cooler -- it's really hard to get enthusiastic about taking a nice brisk walk when the temps are in the triple digits.

Thursday it will be exactly one month since I LEFT for my vacation and darn it, I am just now back where I started. That just isn't right, and I know I'm not setting a very good example for you. I had better get serious or I won't have my weight down where it belongs before the holiday season rolls around, and regardless of how social or UNSOCIAL you might be, it seems very hard not to gain when there are cookies and stuff everywhere, just begging you to try a bite or two!

Good morning all,

Deb, while we were on vacation we bought me a cute new beach cruiser. Last night I ordered a wooden basket for the front. I can hardly wait till it comes. I will use the bike for short trips to the market.

Today we need to do marketing and stop at Lowes for rat traps and gopher repellers. We just got home from a long vacation and the fridge is empty and the critters have invaded.

Friday I picked 16 pounds of tomatoes from the garden and I have to get something done with them. My brother sent me a recipe for wonderful salsa, so I have to get chilies so I can get it made.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

I guess there are a few of us out there in retirement land who revel in the fact that we can do as we please each and every day. I'm one of those.

Speaking of Rosie :-)

Here's a history of Labor Day in the United States. My husband and I are "arguing" :-) because a lot of neighbors have flags out and he doesn't think that's necessary/appropriate.

Hi Deb,

I chose Rosie for a number of reasons. I've always been drawn to her as a symbol of powerful women, and I think, especially with our battle for weight loss, we need to have control.

Years ago my DH and I visited the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, IA. DH is a very distant relative of Hoover's and he wanted to go. I bought a Rosie poster in the gift shop to put up in my classroom. (I'm a retired high school English teacher.) Over the years, many girls pointed at her (Rosie) and said they really liked seeing her up on the wall.

When I wanted to change the picture for my image, I scrolled through dozens, looking for something I thought represented my attitude. Rosie was the perfect one! (If you get a chance to see "Rosie" give her a hug from me!) emoticon

Hey DUSTYSBUMMER . . . can I ask why you use Rosie the Riveter's photo? Are you a union gal? I happened to have met the woman that posed for the photo. She lives (if she's still alive) in Lansing, Michigan. Our Women's Committee found her and invited her to speak at a Women's International Day at our union hall. She was soooo interesting and had a lot to say. I even got to visit her home and it was FILLED with Rosie the Riveter memmorabilia!

Sounds like you are having a great vacation. That's the beauty of retirement. I myself retired last year and am glad to be out of the rat race (at least for now).

Nice "chatting" with you . . . Deb emoticon

We're still on vacation - I'm posting this from Seattle. We've been on the road for a month and I'm afraid of what my weight's done. Unless I watch uber carefully, I gain. We've had a wonderful time from camping with grandsons in the Redwoods, to hiking in the Sierras, to beachcombing on the Washington coast. The weather has been all over the place from the low 60's to the high 90's. Last night we went to a Seattle Mariners baseball game and watched our team - the Angels - get beat. We'll be tooking at the tour books to try to decide what we'll do the next 4 days, then we make our way south to home.

My vacation to Montana, specifically to the Bitterroot Valley was wonderful in that we had each and every day with perfect temperatures. Most of the time it was in the mid to high 80's, although one day it did reach 94. All the people were complaining about "how hot" it was, but coming from the Phoenix area I thought it felt quite good. My trip was filled with lots of lazy times, side trips with wonderful scenery, hours in the jacuzzi tub, and obviously some delicious meals. I could not get my mail on the carrier I have and didn't get to do anything on SP, so it was even a vacation from that. And of course I did not lose 5 pounds as I had hoped to do with picking up the pace on exercise -- I found I had gained 2 pounds and let me tell you, it is coming off much more slowly and harder than it ever did going on!

OK, team, let's all record our Sept. beginning weight over on the proper thread. It's going into fall now and we've got to stay focused here!

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!
