Scotmama----We do have lovely weather all year round but the northern islands usually have the effects of hurricanes and it is the hurricane season now.In Trinidad we are blessed that we are not affected by the hurricanes because of our southern location,we are nearer to Veneuzeula.
I believe each Caribbean island has its own unique beauty.
Glad your date went well......we have a saying here that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach so I'm sure that home cooked meal was well appreciated. emoticon

Hmmmm yes, he was impressed (he eats in restaurants most of the time) I made a pork roast with carrots, celery and carmelized onions around it, mashed potatoes, and stir fry zucchini. And we had a couple glasses of wine.
As far as he was concerned the entire day was a huge success -- but for me, I learned his daughter lives with him (he says "temporarily")and for me that is a big turn-off, plus he has a renter who lives in the in-law addition of his home. Just seems like a lot of people to put up with if I ever visit him at his home. So we'll see -- it's discouraging, as there always seems to be 'something wrong' -- maybe it's just me; and I'm entirely too particular.

Hi Roz -- I've been to the Caribbean, but it was just years and years ago and as I was younger I do not remember if there was much humidity. If you do not have a lot, then it must be really lovely there. I can remember being advised that the best time to take a cruise to the Caribbean would be early winter (for us) and so I just assumed that the summers must be real killers there.

Hey! The lunch date went great!!! We had a lovely lunch, found a quiet place where we could talk and we talked until nearly 6:00. I don't think he wanted to end the date even then. I invited him over to my house for a home-cooked dinner tomorrow as he is a widow and doesn't get much home cooking, and I love to cook, just get tired of doing it for only one person! So this could be a serious thing for us -- we'll see how it works out. He's is in good shape, goes to the gym 3 times a week and he is nice looking. 3 things in his favor. haha

Scotmama---I didn't realise that you lived in the dessert. How do you manage with the heat to do yard work?
Here in Trinidad the hottest it gets to most times is 90 degrees and not very often and when it does we are so flustered. It's usually in the 80's most days.
Presently we are in the rainny season and we do get mini showers so far just about midday.Right now it is a lovely 79 degrees was 81 earlier and at nights it goes down to between 68-70.

Hope the lunch date went well and maybe a second one is in the making? I'm nosey emoticon

I can imagine your dog enjoying your company we had a cat who followed me and stayed outside with me whenever I went to hang the laundry out.Pets can be so interesting.
Congrats on your loss with the mini meals.

I try to go for a walk with Amber, my Scottie, each morning, but now that we're getting into the monsoon season here in Phoenix the heat is oppressive even as early as 5:30 or 6:00. She loves even short little walks, like around the block -- and I've found that just spending some time with her in the backyard makes her happy too. So she's happy, feeling like I'm spending time with her, and I'm getting yardwork done! It's a win-win situation.

Nice quiet day today and it's so hot outside that it is a good time to get a lot of reading done. I've been on one of those "mini-meal" plans and it seems to be working for me. I have had several really small meals, have not been hungry and have gone from 148.2 to 147.8 to 147.6 to 147.2 so judging by the scales I'd say it's a great way to go!

As long as the scale keeps heading downward I'm happy and tomorrow I'm meeting a new guy for lunch and who knows? will he be Mr. Right?

Was super tired last night. Got on the scale as I've started doing that -- it seems my body usually loses about 2 pounds during the night. It wasn't a good weight, but it was less than it had been, so I figured this morning I'd be back at 147 something -- WRONG! Climbed on the scale and saw a shocking 148.6 now what is going on with that???? I took an extra long walk yesterday, thought I ate right and it looks like someone kicked me while I was down! It's just not right!!

Hi all
I haven't had a chance to post for awhile again.
Scotmana - you are right about it taking up a lot of time. I don't mind it but my DH does - he has a grudge against computers, he refuses to learn it, so he can't understand how great it is. I learn a lot reading article's on s/p, plus I do scrapbooking and card making, so I'm involved in those sites also.
Just discovered that s/p has a spot for the wii fit, which I got for christmas and haven't used very much.
they have challenges to do each week, and I'm trying to do them so I can get motivated to do exercise, which I need very badly.
Well hope everyone has a nice day. We have pouring rain here, its been almost everyday lately.
Hugs, Flo

Here we are at Monday again, and as I sat down with my cup of coffee to do all my Spark People stuff, I wondered what I did with all my time before SP! It does take up quite a lot of time, but when I look at the progress I've made with my weight I have to think whatever the cause, the result is something that I love -- so I'm going to keep doing it. I do not think of my time spent on the computer as a waste of time. Many times I'm reading articles that are very informative; I'm tracking my weight/exercise and the foods that I eat. I keep my motivation up by giving and receiving support, and when you look at my track record -- it's working!!

I'll be heading out to Myrtle Beach, SC in the am. Get to go to the beach. I haven't been for some time. From where I live in Georgia it's about 6 - 7 hours ride to beach in any direction so don't do that often. Don't know if I'll have internet access. Won't be back until Friday afternoon.

That certainly brings back memories, Jack. About a year ago I was in Las Vegas so I could "keep an eye on my granddaughter" (too old to babysit) and as I picked her up from school one day I asked if she'd like to go through the drive-thru at a fast food place. You have to understand I don't eat fast food and have not been to one for probably 40 years! We went. I ordered a chicken sandwich, I figured "How bad can it be?" I ate it. 20 minutes later I vomited so that was my answer. I simply cannot tolerate the fat and salt in fast food -- I've accepted that. I have to listen to the needs of my body.

It's too close to Deity. But maybe I need to get more overcoming strength from the Lord. I took the grandboys yesterday for the afternoon which included lunch. I had a hamburger - yep I did. and a few fries. gasp. The problem is not what I ate but that somehow it tries to trigger me to think why don't we stop and eat on the way home - maybe some pizza. Fortunately we didn't but it's funny how that works. Starting Sunday it's eat out for a week on my next trip.

Diety -- now there's a word for you, look that one up in Webster's! But I know what you mean, Jack. One cannot stay forever on the straight and narrow in the diet world. Otherwise eventually even those with the most willpower will rebel and go on a binge and sometimes those binges stretch on and on and on!

Better to just allow ourselves a little treat or reward every now and then for our good behavior. It usually does not throw us under the bus if we do not go overboard. In reality it might mean a pound gain, and we can do that easily by eating something salty. So enjoy -- just don't say to yourself the next morning "I can't believe I ate the WHOLE THING."

Maybe it's the word "cheat" that makes it sound so sinful. We all know we can't live on a restricted diet for long and we do need to satisfy our little cravings sometimes or we go off any eating plan we are on. I think for us who have eating problems, it's not worth it to deprive ourselves of everything that might not be diety.

I don't use a day but eat what I want in moderation whenever. I just make sure I don't buy too many/much things I don't want to eat :-) Fortunately my husband and I have different tastes in treats.

I think all healthy lifestyles (never "diets") should have a cheat day. You don't have to go overboard and actually "fall out of the boat" but by all means treat yourself to something you especially crave once in awhile. If it's ice cream, by that I do not mean eat the whole container -- just have a small dish of it once in a while. OK?

I live in the country just outside a small north Mississippi town. There is no high speed internet service that comes out here. We thought about getting high speed service that comes with the satellite. After inquiring about it, we could not afford it. There is a small company in Southaven, MS that does service our area. I do not have the fastest speed available, but it is so much better than dial-up. Both my husband and I are retired so there is not a lot of extra money floating around. emoticon

That has been quite a con with the half price offer.
Luckily you were clever enough and persistent enough to get what you wanted.
I've realised that my daughter got hooked up through our dial-up so we'll keep that on and she will pay for it instead.

I hate to even think about what I went through this afternoon concerning the internet. The price of my "bundle" services had gotten ridiculously high and when a flyer was left on my door describing all that I could have for about half the price, I bit on it. Ha! The guy was out the very next day to hook up the satellite for me. Then I waited and waited to be contacted by the phone company. No phone call, so after about 3 weeks I called the coordinating company back, and they told me to call the phone company direct. I did. But I could already see that the end price was not going to be nearly as cheap as what I had been quoted. So I had been taken. And....I had already signed a contract for 2 years with the satellite company. Another 3 weeks go by -- still no phone company to change my service, so I call them again. They had no record of my order. So we went through all of it again. Finally on May 4 the phone was changed over -- and remember that the satellite had been installed since March 26th. Now they told me I would receive a CD in the mail from MSN so I could install my internet service with them. No CD arrived. I called again. And of course, again.....no record of the order. I finally received the disk and was told the service would be effective June 4. So this morning while I still have the high-speed internet by cable I hurried through all my emails, and did everything I could on SP while I still had the speed. Dial-up would be this afternoon I had decided. So about 1:00 I undid all the cable connections on my computer and called the cable company to cancel. I put in the msn disk and got...... nothing. Just the same old message on the screen that said, "Please wait." I waited 8 minutes and through I was being more than patient. I called msn. Oh, they tell me. Your service doesn't start until 5:00p.m. So I do a few other things, take a nap, and at nearly 7:00 pm I decide to try it again. Still doesn't work. I call again. Finally get put through to Tech Service and after trying endless things I am told to contact Dell Computers and tell them I need a MODEM so I can install dial-up service. I couldn't believe my ears, so my computer is equipped to handle DSL or high speed internet, BUT NOT DIAL-UP. I told them to forget it. I called the cable company back and told them to UNCANCEL me. They did. I'm back in business! 54 emails were waiting for my attention when I turned my computer back on!

Today I think I did very well even if I say so myself.
I walked for 50mins before sunrise, did a little yard work ,then spent over an hour in the gym. When I got home I mopped the house after vaccuming.
I hope all this will show a positive result when next I get on to the scale!!

Trips, trips, trips -- you are doing great living in the moment. And I know you have a lot of problems and expenses that hold you down, but you're not letting it hold your spirit down and that's great. Have fun!

I saw a .2 drop in weight yesterday, then stepped on the scale this morning and saw I had gained it back. Darn -- I thought I was doing good on my choices too. So to compensate I put in an extra 10 minutes when I took my furball out for our early morning walk and we'll see if that helps when I step on tomorrow morning.

Otherwise, everything is about the same for me. Eve

You have been keeping busy I see.
Today I went to the gym and had a good workout.
As soon as I got home the cable serviceman was here to install high speed internet ------so you know what I've been doing most of the time besides cooking ,eating !!!!OH I did go to the store and bought a few needed items.
Have a blessed night all.
Roz.

In all your ways acknowledge HIM and HE shall direct your paths.

Today I went to record books for the blind, then delivered cookies (homemade) to a Pastor who rents a little house from me, then on to the 94-year old lady that I am the Caregiver to on Tuesdays. Her back was hurting yesterday, so we cancelled, but I took her a dozen cookies too. After that it was over to my Healthcare center to pick up a refill of my one blood pressure medication. Sounds all so boring but it filled up most of my afternoon. After all that it was nap time -- one of my favorite times of the day!

I'm going back to dial-up on my computer tomorrow. I wonder if that will cut down on the amount of time I spend on here. Who knows what all I'll get done if I'm not on here????

Trying to find the silver lining in all the clouds!
