My passion is serving humanity with my music. I love writing and performing positive music that makes a difference in the world. I have no formal training to speak of, just a passion for writing since I was 13 years old. I sing every Sunday at New Thought churches around the valley in Phoenix with my BFF.

One of the things we LIVE for is to write FOR a specific service or event. The song "Live for Me",
was written for a candlelighting memorial service for families that have lost a child. It is a "message" of life from the child to the parent. Singing at this memorial service is a sad but precious honor I will serve for the rest of my life.

That's my passion. Serving humanity by sharing light and hope and passion through music.

I definitely agree! Music is a magical thing!

I'm auditioning for a community theater musical this weekend - I would be a vocalist for that, but it's a step back into what I love. :)

Hi, all! I am a PG student in Musicology and mainly my studies are focused on musical research and musical analysis. I am also a pianist, though this year I haven't studied a lot piano, because of a muscle problem. The good news is that this problem seems to be cured little by little, with workout and healthy nutrition (it helps sometimes) and the next year I am coming back!!I have to give exams on my piano diploma, so this could be a good challenge for me to start the practising and the concerts as well!Music is my passion and I have made a lot of sacrifices to reach this level that I am now, but I don't regret it. The joy to create from nothing, to interpret your thoughts and hopes and dreams and desires into sound and music, to touch others' feelings with your music and sometimes motivate them it is a miracle for me. After a concert I feel refreshed and re-motivated myself. Of course this path has a lot of bad and tired days, but the music itself it is something magical and can help every bad feeling to move far away!!

I still do things like tryout for musicals with the community theatre (whether in the orchestra or as an actress). I'm thinking about getting more active with my playing, but I don't have the instruments that I'd prefer to play in my possession (I need to buy a bass clarinet and a tenor saxophone emoticon ).

To teach yourself, I'd start by learning to read music. First be able to identify the names of the notes in the five line staff (be careful of the clef because this will change how you read the staff). If you look at piano music, it tends to stick to two clefs, treble and bass. The treble clef looks like a swirly, cursive G mixed with an S. lol! The bass clef looks like a backwards C.

There is a set of books we used in my theory classes called "Tonal Harmony." There start with the basics like reading the note names, time signatures, key signatures, etc. I highly recommend them!

Once you get an understanding of reading the music, you can start training your ear by playing a major scale or just a few notes on piano/keyboard (This would require getting the basics on a piano too so you know you're playing the right notes. There are tons of great beginner books for piano that do just that!).

These are the places I started! You have some experience in music, so you'll not flying blind. Once you review a theory concept from "Tonal Harmony" or any other book/website you find, you can look through music you've already become familiar with to apply the concept.

"Look to the past (music) to understand the future (music)."

I hope this helps!

I see this is a old post. Are you still with the group? Did you get back into Music. I love Music but never learned a thing about it. I have always loved to sing but I can't read music and if someone ask me what key I sang in I would not know what to tell them . That is how bad my lack of knowledge is. I sing at Church , and go to Nursing Homes and sing to the Old Folks there. I would really love to learn more about music but where should I start? I just want to teach myself , I am not interested in going to school.

I got my BA in Music in December 2007 and oddly I haven't really picked up my instrument since then. (I had one performance and I will be playing at Homecoming in about a month, but that's it).

I'm looking for advise on how best to get back into it now that I'm not in school.
