Finally getting back from the event I was at. I had only 24 oz. of water on Saturday (I know, I paid for it with a bad headache.) I did 30 minutes of cardio, no plank.

Today I had 64 oz. of water, 30 mins of cardio but no plank.

Hi all!

Happy Sunday! I just wanted to drop everyone a quick line and tell you that we are freezing our butts off in SLC! Very cold. Thanks for the warm welcome Tomie it is good to see you too. I did great this weekend. Here are my totals so far:

Friday:

Exercise took a jog/walk 2 miles and I ran one mile on my treadmill
Drank 80 oz water
Didn't do the plank

Saturday:

Exercise: 2.5 miles
weight training 40 minutes
drank 88 oz of water
Plank: 2 minutes

Well it sure feels good to see you all here and I will post the rest of my weekend totals. Bye!

howdy elephants
sorry for my absence yesterday. I did not get home until 6 from shopping and running and was just wore out.
the weekend challenge had been continued though
I had 136 oz water yesterday and did the side planks but not the 30 min cardio. I will get in 60 min today to make up for it though.

Hello elephants!

I have been so busy and I haven't participated as much as I would like to but look out! I'm back!
It is pretty nasty outside today. I tried to exercise on my treadmill but I think that I am overdoing it because I was aching and only walked for two miles. I got in 10 miles this week. My beginning total miles to Ohio is 1673.91 . I walked ten miles this week so my ending total 3/1 is 1663.91 miles. My plan is to use my pedometer when I am not exercising so this should help me be able to log the miles as well. So, I hear that we have a water challenge this weekend so I guess I will start logging that too! Go team! (Insert elephant sound here). lol

Hey ladies...

Apparently only 3 of us participated yesterday but we still had 369 oz. of water, that is great! I ALWAYS struggle on the weekends to get all the water I need so this will be a true challenge for me today. I have already started though and I am down 32 oz.

We can do this!

Checking in before I go to bed for the night.

I got 96 oz. in today, 31 minutes of cardio but could only do 15 seconds on the plank.

I have an event going on this weekend so I'll only be checking in at night, maybe if I get the time in the morning.

well ladies I am going out soon. I have 4.5 34 oz bottles in so far. I will drink 8 oz for every 12 of beer tonight if it kills me. I will try to report my water in by midnight for today.

I have to tell you all something. I am not one to toot my own horn I can't even accept compliments well but as I am getting ready, I have to look in the mirror and I am amazed. My chins have shrank i only have 1.25 of them now not 2.5. my face will never be what can be called beautiful but wow I looked pretty. I am ready to cry I really thought my chins and cheeks would never go away.

thank you all so much for the encouragement and examples you have set out. without this group I would not be where I am or get where I am going. You guys have helped me to build my strength and I can never tell you what that does for me.

Tomie: On a serious note.. be careful not to get water toxicity. It is where you over hydrate and it dilutes the amount of potassium and sodium for the heart to work correctly. 119 is more than enough for you..

let me start by saying I AM GOING TO KILL MY HUBBY he told me my one liter bottle was 64 ounces. well being the doubting thomas that I am I checked a conversion calc online. it is only 34 ounces. so my totals have been wrong and not just in here but on my nutrtion. LET ME REPEAT I AM GOING TO KILL HIM
so my point is i have only 119 ounces today
But because i am angry i will increase this dramatically

the elephants are going to win the water challenge for sure! it is 7:30 and I have already finished my coffee (UGH) and am starting on water. I usually don't stop with the coffe before 11 so this should add up for me.

elephants rock! I drink at least 10 cups of water a day now so this is a breeze. I can up may intake as long as I don't leave the vicinity of a bathroom. lol My hubby is planning on us going out friday night, this means alot of beer so for every beer I drink i will get another 8 ounces of water. That means on friday night I should have at least 12 cups of WATER in 5 or 6 hours. (boy I will live in the bathroom that night)

The Importance of Regular Water Consumption
Water is the most valuable and necessary 'nutrient' for the proper operation of the human body. It's very important to drink enough water daily as regular water consumption is the only way that your body can eliminate concentrated toxins from your cells. Whether cleansing or not, a deficiency of water, dehydration, can have deleterious effects on your body, possibly leading to failing health and in extreme circumstances death. Few of us are close to that stage of water loss, but if you are experiencing heartburn, rheumatoid pain, back pain, heart or angina pain, headaches, or leg pain from walking, you may be suffering from chronic dehydration.

Through many studies it has been shown that joint movement is greatly facilitated by water. The cartilage lining in your joints need fluid to create a cushion between your bones. Without sufficient water, an inflammatory process can develop to compensate for the lack of water. It may appear that there is an infection or arthritis in your joints, when in reality, there is only dehydration. This occurs frequently in elderly persons as many people of increasing years drink very little water daily due to other concerns such as bloating, water retention, and kidney problems.

Cutting back on water consumption is the wrong course of action for these problems as other more serious complications can result from a lack of water consumption. The correct course of action would be to drink an appropriate amount of fluids a day (discussed further later in this article) and to treat the causes of the specific ailment in an appropriate way.

There are many other helpful effects on the body that occur when adequate water is consumed daily. Present in your stomach and duodenum (the first portion of your small intestines) lies a mucous barrier that prevents acid penetration and damage to your gastrointestinal lining. A well-hydrated mucous barrier will retain bicarbonate and neutralize acid as it tries to pass through the mucous. Drinking proper amounts of water will provide a much better acid barrier to the mucosa than any medication on the market.

Water consumption is very important for your overall metabolic health. If your double-layer cell membranes lack sufficient water, enzyme movement in and out of your cells will be obstructed. Enzymes are necessary to activate all the body's cell functions, and anything that interferes with enzyme movement will have a negative effect on all your body's systems.

Hypertension or high blood pressure can be helped by optimal water consumption. When you have inadequate volume in your blood stream, the vessels selectively decrease in diameter. The vascular system adapts to volume loss by selectively closing the blood vessel lumen. One major cause of blood volume loss is insufficient body water. In chronic dehydration water is lost from the inside of some cells, from the water volume held outside the cells, and from water held in the blood vessels. The compensatory closing of the lumen to compensate for water loss causes the rise in tension recognized as hypertension.

What's the Appropriate Level of Water Consumption?

A good rule to follow is to drink half your weight in 'ounces' of water every day. So, if you weigh 160 pounds, you would benefit by drinking 80 ounces of water each day.

Examples: 200lbs=100 ounces of water daily
100 lbs=50 ounces of water daily

Drinking pure water allows your body to flush out toxins without having to mobilize and put stress on your digestive system. Adequate water consumption is one of the single most important tasks we must practice daily in order to live a long and healthy life.

Not even herbal (no caffeine) teas count?! I really do have to protest here..if crystal light and similar additives count then herbal, caffeine free, tea should be allowed. emoticon Not trying to be a downer but this really isn't a level playing field. I use herbal teas to limit my consumption of things like crystal light and other additives.

Come on ladies...I can drink some water and so can you. We can't allow those darn bees to beat us. I think we should challenge them in addition to their water we should challenge them do wall pushups just because they burn and they like to brag about being STINGERS. Lets sting them!

Rules: Log you water intake in ounces with a daily totalsummary. Each day start another daily total count. I will be keeping track so on Monday the winner will be announced.

Ounces In:
Ounces Total for day:

Coffee, Tea, soda, crystal light or any other additive do not count. Just good water.

Reminder: Water intake should be of a healthy amount. The rule of thumb is that a person should drink 1/2 of the body weight or a minimum of 64 oz a day. We definently do not want to experience water toxicity, so monitor you ounces! Also, if you work out you should drink an additional 8 oz for every 20 min during the workout.
