My team is on an easy recovery schedule:

Mon - off
Tue - off
Wed - get a massage
Thu - 20 mins or 2 miles, easy
Fri - off
Sat - group 3 mile run, easy, mimosas after to celebrate - woo-hoo!
Sun - off, as usual

We'll get together occasionally during the off-season. I have to start training, soon, for a 3-day 60 miler scheduled for November in Dallas.

Alysia :)

excellent article! when i used a book (I think it was Galloway's) it didn't treat post-race. this gives notice that post-race needs its own plan.

Recovery is the key right now. I hurt myself last year from an improper recovery period. This article talks about how to get back into training correctly and gradually. Last year my plan ended with the marathon with no real structure to my recovery; not this year!

Its really something to be at and watch a marathon. I did that a few years ago and thought I should do at least one. I hit 40 just as my cholesterol hit 200+, so I figured it was a tap on the shoulder. Now I have 2 marathons completed and I am considering another one in Nov.

These quality races could not be done without the volunteers. The amount of support and crowds along the route are really something.

RNR San Antonio is a certified course and a Boston qualifier. Good luck to your friend!

One of our coaches missed qualifying by 20 seconds, one year. I haven't checked to see if he made it this year (he has before).

Good call on the volunteers. They were awesome. After mile 18 I had no smiles left, no thank yous, I was basically a big ugly bear. They cheered, shouted words of encouragement. Great folks. Really great atmosphere.

I have a friend who ran his first marathon with me (in as much as we both chose to run this marathon, he was WAY ahead of me) and was 6 minutes off qualifying for Boston. He'll be at the San Antonio marathon if it's a qualifier.

hmmmm, do I hear the rumbling of REBYAC pondering the idea of a marathon? listen, if I could do it (and I did, even if it was around 4 hours!) then YOU could do it.

I've been thinking, too.....about the San Antonio marathon. The site says its is scenic and mostly flat, with music (woohooo) along the way. happy to run it with you if I know far enough ahead of time to start preparing. Unlike the atletes on this fabulous team, it takes me months to gear up for a marathon. This time, I won't do a "practice" marathon a week before the real one....doh! Maybe that's why I blew my knee out during the real marathon....?

wanna do it?

Have a Sparktacular Day!

I so appreciate all the volunteers and spectators who were out along the route to cheer us on, hand out water and PowerAde and sweep up after us!

Mental is right - hahaha! My hubby thinks I'm certifiable for doing it. ;)

Watching everyone come through at the mile 18.8 water stop (Brentwood Elem.) was an amazing experience. You all are inspiring -- I hope that you are proud of yourselves. I had never remotely considered doing a marathon until I got to see the physical and mental energy and stamina and strength of all of you who ran on Sunday.

Congratulations.

I don't remember what the qualifying time is for 21-yo men, but the Austin is a Boston - and an Olympic - qualifier. Qualifying times are automatically sent to the gods in Boston. Good luck to your colleague!

Under the gun is completing. Way to go. I told my wife before I started that I was going to finish no matter what, it was just a matter of how gracefully. If I had to crawl through the finish I would.

It was a FANTASTIC day. The weather was spot on, the people were spot on. Solid fun from start to finish.

A friend of mine from work also ran his first marathon and got 3:16. He's going to run the San Antonio marathon and try to qualify for Boston. He's 21, insane and intense. I have no doubt he'll make.

Congrats, Evildeadite! Wasn't it a gorgeous day for a race?

It truly got the best of me, but - hey, I finished under the gun and that's all that matters.

Rest well. You're well prepared for your next marathon. I believe there's a Rock-n-Roll coming up in San Antonio, the inaugural for them, in November.

First marathon, first race of any sort. My goal was 1. Complete. 2. If possible get under four hours. I got 3:48:22

Congratulations to everyone that finished. And a very special thank you to the guy at mile 25, who while struggling, grunted words of encouragement to me. He was clearly in more pain than myself.

And also, Bob, Jim and Alecia, the pace setters for the 3:45 group. Intense, great people.

Hi, Evildeadite:

You dropped from 300 lbs? Wow! Your twins are adorable. I'm also a native Californian from the coast and have lived in the Austin area since 1980. Talk about changes over time!

As many miles as you're running/week, I'm sure you'll do just fine in the marathon and finish standing upright. Just take it easy on the hills - lots of them the first 10 miles, mostly downhill on the return, lots of turns, and remember to smile at the cameras, lol!

Not that anybody knows who I am, but I'll be running the marathon. This is my first race of any kind (also the first time I've ever ran with another person.)

sold out? Do you guys ever have problems with the smaller races (5K, 10K) filling up quickly?

As you may know, I'm not yet *in* Austin---I return in June, so I can't volunteer, cheer, etc. I promise that when I get there, though, I certainly will volunteer. I remember the onlookers cheering during the marathon I did in Dallas and how genuinely grateful I was that they were there, so I'd like to return that favor.

Good luck on your race. *cyber hi-five*

Have a Sparktacular Day!

I'll be at a waterstop -- not sure which one yet (on Arroyo Seco, I think -- it's the Rogue Running stop). Anyone else running this race? If you'd like to work a waterstop, let me know, and I'll hook you up!
