I like the 7-grain gardein tenders and gardein's black bean burger when I don't feel like cooking. I also love tofu, beans and lentils, and I often make my own seitan.

I have recently discovered lupine products (burgers, 'steaks' etc). They can be found in biological groceries here and even if they aren't cheap, they make a great protein-packed meal. 100 grams of lupine product can have up to 20 gr of proteins. It's more caloric than tofu or seitan (up to 230 calories per 100 gr), but it's incredibly filling. One lupine burger with a big mixed vegetables side (probably adding potatoes for the starches) make a fast and nutritious meal.

For me it depends on what I'm going to do with it. Quorn picks up marinade flavors so easily, the Field Roast handformed burgers are excellent and not dry at all, I love Beyond Meat faux chicken strips for fajitas, and Gardein is a solid product all the way around, I love their meatless meatballs and lightly breaded turkey cutlets. There's just no way I could ever pick a favorite.

SlayingDragons, I used to live in Brazil too. My parents were missionaries there from 1962-1980, so I was born and raised there until age 14.

Love.

I will just add Trader Joe's various meat substitutes-- chicken, beef, etc-- are white good in Mexican style foods (fajitas, tacos). Last time I visited my parents my mom picked it up as she was making steak fajitas. I was skeptical as I try not to eat fake meats (unless the fkst ingredient is seitan). The steak was SOOOO good. Had the same chewy, pliable texture as properly good Carne asada. And it was not exorbitantly expensive either!

If memory serves, the "steak" one was a bit healthier ingredient wise on my comparison to the chicken.

I generally so try to stay away from subs for a variety of reasons-- they are often maybe with slme version of TVP or some soy derivative; also I love the challenge of cooking dishes outside of the "meat" paradigm. Also, as others have added, lentils, Bulgur wheat, barley can all be good subs in soups and chilies. I especially find barley and bulgur whear to be great subs for a "ground beef" texture in soups and chilis. I do this when I cook for potluck a or my carnivorous kin.

I like veggie crumbles... it's like faux ground beef. Yves makes a good one. It's super versatile and makes making dinner a snap for me and my omnivore boyfriend.

I'm also a big fan of the PC Blue Menu "chick'n breasts", because it makes a great simple dinner.

I also love Tofurky's hickory smoked slices- they're so good I can eat them just by the slice.

Cheers!

Boca chicken patties are pretty decent. I don't buy meat subs much since I wasn't a lover of pork, beef, veal, lamb or meats except for chicken and sometimes turkey. Being vegetarian is fairly easy for me~

I like tofu best anyhow with whole grains, fruits and vegetables so that is my thing~

I used to be SUCH a meat and potatoes woman when I ate meat (20 years ago at this point) and the MorningStar chicken patties were a mainstay of my diet. I barely ate any veggies then, so I could kill a box of them in no time. With that said, I don't like MorningStar's ethics so I haven't bought them in years.

Currently I like Gardein the best, though I also love WhiteWave's chicken-style seitan. For "bacon" I like Upton's (though, again, MorningStar used to be my fav). I do like Quorn but since I try to eat a vegan diet, I don't buy Quorn anymore either.

Mmmm...now I want some fake meat.

I live in Brazil and there are very few ready-made products on the market. I generally do not use soy so ruled out their soy "meat" products. Recently I discovered that lentils taste very much like ground beef! I am finding that the less I try to replace and just go with the flavors of fruits and veggies, the more satisfied I am. Consequently, I am on the lookout for very simple recipes just so I don't get bored. The next thing I'm going to try and hopefully become good-at is vegan sushi. Maybe this week!

My favorite fake chicken is Quorn Naked Cutlets because they can be made so many ways. For beef it's either Gardein or Trader Joe's Beefless Tips. A new one I am going to try is Beyond Meat Grilled Strips (fake chicken again).

Happy Fall! It's so beautiful this time of year here in the northeast.

I know, I know, natural, whole foods is the goal for everyday eating, but sometimes we just crave some dish from the past.

Last night I tried Quorn for the first time when I made chick'n marsala, and I have to say it was the best consistency of any substitute I've tried.

I also love tempeh and Field Roast Grain Meat products, occasionally.

What about you?
