Is it so ridiculous that we live in the United States ,the strongest country in the world, and we have to fight just to be well.? To get the care we need as women to overcome this AWFUL disease? I NEVER. Knew how strong I could be til I had to start asking for help that was a matter of life and death.

Christine, We are behind you! I had to fight for my radiation like that. The insurance company did not want to pay because they said I went out of network. It was in the basement of our local hospital where I went for my surgery. I was not going to do radiation because I could not afford it. It was ridiculous. It did get worked out. But from that battle I have come to believe--

People who need healthcare should not have to fight for it.

You should be able to put your energies into becoming well. You should not have to worry about this. In spite of that you have the right attitude and some good ideas from others to win this battle. I am with you in prayer and as support as you embark on this journey.

Try to negotiate with the health care providers & medical facilities. If your insurance isn't going to cover this, a lot of them are willing to negotiate, but you have to ask. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? I'll keep you & your family in my prayers. emoticon emoticon

Don't know where you live or your age , but New York State has a program for uninsured women with breast cancer. It was a LIFESAVER for me because my employer didn't offer insurance. Also, just start googling " financial help with cancer treatment" . Some programs are state by state , some national and they go by the type of cancer you have and your income. Con tact the social worker at the hospital you're being treated at. They are invaluable in helping find a way to pay for the care you need. Try not to worry! You need to stay positive and fight! There is help out there! It's overwhelming to see people come to your aid in the fight. You've got my prayers. Drop by my page or shoot an email if you need some help researching!

You go Girl!!! It sounds like you are in a good frame of mind, and ready to FIGHT!!! I hope you can find financial help somewhere, and that all your news from now on will be good..... I can't believe they won't insure you, as I am diabetic and on high blood pressure meds too, and they covered me. They are all different. Wish I could give you a real hug, but this will have to do... emoticon

I just got the word today that the health insurance offered through my employer will not insure me due to pre-existing conditions. Mind you, I hadn't even gotten the opportunity to MENTION the breast cancer...the minute they heard about the diabetes (now well controlled by diet only) and the blood pressure meds, they were done.

So, now I'm facing this journey without insurance. The Breast Care Coordinators at the hospital have told me, "No matter what, you WILL be treated!" - this is something I'm just going to have to walk by faith, and trust that a way will be made clear for me.

On the bright side, I have received nothing but love and support from all of you, my friends, my family, and my brand-new employer. I really can't ask for much more than that.

I have my first consultation with my surgeon on Monday morning, after which I will have more of a plan. I have seen a glimpse of this dragon, and I'm ready to gather my warriors together and SLAY IT.

Hugs,
Christine
