List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks.

1) I let the uncontrolled me, control me-especially in the evening when I am tired.
2) I tell myself that it won't hurt to have a little extra but eventually those extras accumulate and add up on the scale.
3) I stop tracking my foods as accurately as I should and WHEN I should...like I should do it before I eat the food and then I know what I am allowed to have and how much.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

Track my food.
Be consistent in fitness and healthy activities.
Don't let one fall keep you from finishing the journey!
You really have to WANT to change!
What you think is VERY important, so think POSITIVE!

1. Start Monday so I eat bad things then start Monday and Monday.
2. This will be the last bag of chips I buy then a week later I buy them
3. Eat healthy food in freezer but never last more than 3 days

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you? That only I can make a difference in my life and stop making excuses and do what I know I can do

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

1. I don't lose weight fast enough and give up
2. I eat too big of portions
3.I am usually way too stressed out

I do better when I am able to be consistent with my life which helps to lower my stress levels and I am more relaxed to make better food choices. Also when I am being consistent I plan better and don't feel so overwhelmed by work.

reasons plans haven't worked well in the past
1. I do well for a week, start to lose weight, and then relax
2. I make unreasonable goals and when I don't meet them, give up and go back to what I was doing before
3. I am easy to pressure into making/buying/eating treats more often than I should. Either by my family or my kids.
I have learned to make ATTAINABLE, shorter term goals to help me stick to my plan and stay motivated.

My biggest fail is the fact I often go...What the Hell!!!!! it's not worth it..."this bit won't hurt"
But it is worth it and I am now on that track.......

I am slowly changing my thinking and am loving the topics at WW each week that helps that....
Slowly but surely gets results....woohoo...

1. I GOT LAZY!
2. I GOT LAZY!
3. I GOT LAZY! It’s sad to admit, but it’s the truth! I’ve been successful in the past and knew what to do. I just got too lazy to do the work!

My Strategy:
1. Write out my SMART goal on what I want to achieve.
2. Schedule time to meal prep and exercise.
3. Do not buy the unhealthy foods that will sabotage my healthy eating.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

I’ve learned that I have to stay focused on what is important to me. And, that I am worth putting in the effort to achieve my goals.

1. Lack Exercise - I can say that I can’t even blame this one on the fall, while I was doing really good for the months leading up to cruise and busting butt, I tend to become lazy in general. While right now I don’t exercise because of the fall, I need to get going on the moving at least. Even when I am having a rough day I need to get and move a bit.

2. Cooking vs. Eating Out – I work a lot and honestly at the end of the day I am pooped. I need to try to prep more so that I can come home and just be ready to cook. I also need to prep my lunch more.

3. Starting Tomorrow – I start tomorrow a lot. I give up and eat whatever I want and then tell myself I will start tomorrow or Monday…..or next month. I need to start now and keep going, my health needs this now. Keep going with the 5% challenges because they keep me honest and motivated.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

THREE REASONS/EXCUSES WHY I'VE BEEN LESS SUCCESSFUL

1 - Lack of consistency - I have been working on planning my day the night before or the morning of - lists help me a lot

2 - Lack of tracking - I "forget" to track my evening meals. I need to pre-track my food and edit if I ate something different or a different quantity

3 - Lack of exercise - Need to fit exercise into my day - Try placing it on my calendar so I have it as an appointment like a dentist or doctor's appointment.

Something I've learned along the way is sometimes you think you're hungry but you really are thirsty. I eat less when I keep hydrated!

1. lack of consistency - I used to go to the gym for at least 30 min a day 6 days a week, but then my knees were really bothering me, so I started going to physical therapy and used the excuse that my PT was south of my house and I had to pass my house to go back to the gym, so i just wouldn't go to the gym and PT was not hard enough for me to get exercise. So I got out of the habit of going. I now have my gym bag in the car ready to go to the gym everyday after work/meetings. I am ready to take on going to the gym Mon-Fri and some Saturdays to get my exercise in and try to ride my bike or swim with my hubby after work or weekends.

2. not in the mood to cook so we would eat out - We are cooking more at home and only going out for date night. And we have taco tuesdays at Tijuana Flats every tuesday, I made a suggestion to only do that once a week so we could concentrate on eating better and cooking more.

3. I do not drink enough water - I have a water bottle I carry with me daily, it even has the numbers 1-6 on it, so I can move the tab to the next number when I finish the bottle, I need to drink more water, as I get a lot of headaches and it may be the lack of water.

1. Myself! I'm my own worst enemy. BUT having discovered that I am working on ways to remain focused and positive - journaling daily, drinking lots and lots of water, and adding mins to my exercise.

2. Exercise. It's never been my favorite thing. I'm more laid back/quiet - OK Lazy! But I love water walking and yoga. I can do yoga even though I'm not flexible and do not have great balance. I'm learning to make adjustments. Feels great.

3. Stress. I make sure I always have lots of veggies and fruits prepared. I need 'crunch' and the veggies and/or apples work great.

1. I often times convince myself that "today is different (more stressful/more celebration) and I deserve to have a treat or skip my workout"-----> remind myself that in stressful times or happy times I always feel better when I eat good and workout. Perhaps I should post that somewhere in my room so I have a constant reminder.
2. "I will start on Monday" I have a terrible habit of saying oh well I ruined it today and its almost next week. I'll just start again Monday.---> To change this in the next 8 weeks I will start over IMMEDIATELY after a mess up.
3. having migraines or getting sick. If I don't feel well in the morning I am much less likely to go to the gym or do my workout---> If I don't feel well I will go for a small walk just to get SOME exercise. Chances are I will continue if I go out with the intention of a small walk.

Things that I do to help: Track my exercise, give myself 2 days where I don't plan a workout, 20 minutes of active minutes=60 minutes of TV watching, allow myself to have the things I enjoy once or twice a week at a smaller portion than I used to have (icecream)

I get depressed and then binge on very unhealthy foods
I stop trying
I make excuses

Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

I really do want to make this the best challenge ever because I'm pretty much spinning my wheels weight-wise and I know that is MY fault

I'm going to utilize positive and helpful tools to deal with my depression. This is a lifelong situation for me and I already treat my depression medically and I know how to help myself in other ways, if only I will make use of the tools.
I think sometimes I give up just so I can go back to my unhealthy ways of coping because they give me a very temporary and false high...but I know that using food to make myself happy is destructive...I'm going to make the effort to use really coping tools to help myself. My entire life will be better for it.
Even when I make excuses for myself, I know they are lies. I'm not going to give those lies another foothold in my life. I know this is a lifelong challenge but I'm going to take one minute at a time and go from there.

3 reasons why diets and exercise have not been well executed in the past.

No, reason not the case, Spark People is the first diet I have ever been on and is because of blood clots and unable to exercise or eat properly. later when able and back to my past routine the weight came off, all that was gained. I know want to lose a little more. I was the same size for 35 years.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

3 reasons/excuses why my (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past

1. I thought of it as a 'diet', something I could go off after I lost the weight. I now am making daily habits for this to be my permanent lifestyle.

2. When I was still working I didn't have the time to plan or exercise properly. I'm now retired so do have the time to plan and exercise.

3. I experience 'portion distortion' and stopped measuring. I consistently measure my portions now to keep from slipping back into old ways

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

Using the nutritional planner in advance has been a big help. Taking the time to write out when I do certain exercises helps as well. Measuring my portions is essential for me. I decided in November 2017 to turn around negative thinking and negative self-talk. That has been a big help. Blogging about feelings instead of 'stuffing them' has also helped. Recognizing that the scale isn't the only measure of success makes a difference for me.

Joy is a Choice. Choose joy moment by moment.

When all else fails, persistence prevails.

Injoy:) Carolyn

1. I'm too tired to make good food.
I will plan meals ahead of time and get them prepped by Saturday night.

2. I don't have time to strength train.
I will conciously plan my morning time to include 15 minutes for strength training.

3. People tell me I'm skinny enough or that I'm working too hard to lose weight.
I will research reputable, medical resources to evaluate my weight and fitness.

List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

1. Thinking I can do better with the latest fad. So, then I get caught up with a diet that cuts out foods and then I feel deprived and then I start random eating because I'm hungry.

I am going to focus on eating a balanced diet or like Bob Harper refers to it as eating three squares with protein, fat, carbs and vegetables. When I eat a variety and don't deprive myself I do better and I do less random eating.

2. Stress eating. Stress can be a lot of things, a change of schedule, visiting family (yes, even the best families can cause stress), work stress, life stress, and the list can go on.

See #1 above. Eating a balanced diet with a variety of foods and eating on a schedule, even when life gets off course. Tracking my food every day, no exceptions, and getting plenty of exercise. Taking time to nurture my faith and being kind to myself.

3. Random eating, sugar, snack foods. I eat too much sugar and snack foods.

Limiting my sitting in front of the computer. This may seem to be a different issue, but the longer and more time I'm sitting on Spark and other sites, I tend to do more random eating. Limiting my snacking. Bob Harper in The Super Carb Diet, recommends eating three square meals with a good balance of carbs, protein, and fat along with vegetables and one floater meal which is protein and fat with vegetables. He recommends no snacking.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?
I have learned that I have to stay mindful and keep at it. I am always trying to learn new strategies and get new ideas from many sources. I no longer consider it a diet, but instead its a lifestyle and lifestyle is fluid which means it is something that has to be flexible and adaptable to new circumstances.

List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

1. Laziness and low motivation
I'm working on the motivation factor; it's related to mild depression so I'm getting out and socializing more and trying to overcome the losses of the last year.

2. Denial
I keep thinking 'I can lose this in a month if I really try...maybe I'll do that NEXT month'. It's gotten to the point, though, that it isn't going to come off in a month.

3. All or nothing mentality
I do great as long as I do great; then I crash and have a lot of trouble getting it back. I will 'get over myself' and learn to recover after small mistakes before they become big mistakes.

1. Didn't take the time to think about the consequences of eating off plan - Now when stressed try to take a "time out" to think of a better alternative.
2. Didn't have a plan in place for different stressful situations - Now reading through Beck"s The Diet Trap Solution to have strategies in place.
3. Made excuses about why I could skip the day's exercise plan - Now I remind myself of the benefits of a regular program and have alternatives for days when what I had planned just wouldn't work.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

1. I was to busy with work - did not make time for myself
2. Did not eat healthy food
3. I was taking care of everyone else except me

1. Started to force myself to go from work to gym
2. Eating healthier Salads, fruit, home cooked meals
3. Take care of ME so I can then care for others

I have learned that I am number one and I need to be healthy so I can be there for my family.

1. I worked nightshift and was sleep deprived much of the time
2. I didn't stay consistent with exercising
3. I would get depressed and think "who cares?" so I'd fall back into my old ways

1. I retired and now sleep 6 -8 hours most nights and feel so much better
2. I've found exercise routines I am enjoying and consistently been doing for several months now and I have visual calendars marking off what exercise I do so it looks pretty impressive by the end of each month.
3. Sleeping better and getting consistent exercise has helped my mood and I've been more determined to take care of my health

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you? Accountability wherever you can find it

My excuses.
1. I always put my husbands’ needs before mine as he is disabled.

2. Lack of consistency with what I was doing.

3. I let others sway me into straying off my plan for better health.

My strategies.
1. I sat my husband down and told him that I need to take better care of myself with some ‘me’ time every day for exercise and I would not bring his junk food into the house anymore.

2. I have the mindset that I will keep at this as a change in lifestyle.

3. I have decided that I know what is best for me, not others.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you? I know how to eat and exercise in order to lose weight and be healthy. I lost my self control for a while, but after seeing a weight loss of 7 pounds in a month, my self control is back. Success at something near and dear to your heart has a way of changing you.

My 3 reasons/excuses:
1. Just don't want to do it.
2. Don't want to suffer from the hunger feelings all day long
3. Don't really want to restrain myself from sweets

Strategies:
1. Just do it
2. Enjoy the suffering (if that's possible)
3. Limit the sweets (portion control)

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?
I hit my goal weight and maintained for two years. So I know what helps but need to push myself seriously.

List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks. Let's learn from our past behaviors and make this our best Challenge ever!

1. I wasn't consistent in my habits in the past.
Strategy: Now I'm using a Trello board each day with checklists so I just concentrate on doing one thing and then moving onto the next. All of my important things are done in the morning so I don't get tired and say I'll just do better tomorrow. Never trust your future self.

2. I didn't feel like cooking so we went out or ordered in.
Strategy: Now I am cooking dinner in early afternoon so if dh comes home early, I won't be tempted to go out. Food is ready and can be reheated in a microwave.

3. I hated thinking everyday, What shall I cook for dinner. Then usually wouldn't have the groceries on hand.
Strategy: Each night, I plan one dinner meal and add the needed ingredients to a grocery list on my Trello board for the following week. So when grocery shopping day arrives, I have a complete list (no missing ingredients) and I have a week's worth of menus planned out. Then I will archive these weekly and rotate the menu every 6 weeks occasionally adding in new healthy recipes.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?
Preplanning my food diary in the morning during breakfast keeps me within my calorie range. I know the portions that I need to eat so I can just measure each time. If something comes up and I have to eat something that I didn't plan, I can go and tweak my diary. Also, I have written out obstacles regarding food, exercise, meal prep, water. Why wasn't I able to do these successfully for the day (I keep adding to my list as it comes up) Then I have written out a solution. Eventually, these things will become a habit. My old way of doing things was just "things didn't go as planned for the day" and I tell myself I shouldn't have done that and I'll do better tomorrow. Never trust your future self. I actually have a strategy.

1. Half-assed commitment. Often it felt I was really interested in losing weight, but not so much as to give it a life-time commitment. This time I am fully committed to finding my health and wellness; so much has happened, gone wrong, because of my crappy habits... I'm fixing that now and just can't go back to old ways.

2. Laziness when it comes to exercise. I found an exercise that I can, in a sense, lazily do, although I do work up a good sweat, and that is my recumbent bike. One of the best pieces of exercise equipment I've invested in. I love riding it while watching fave tv programs and that makes the watching of shows/movies a much more productive time instead of "couching" them. :) I also enjoy cardio hula dancing when I am alone at home and can have the whole living room to myself (need space for that.)

3. Not knowing enough about health and nutrition, yet thinking I did. I'm learning more and more every day.

1. I don't have time.
2. I'll do it later, and never do.
3. I don't feel good, or I'm in pain.

1. Make the time for meal planning and exercise. I have a stationary bike, and many yoga DVD's. I am making use of them. On the bike I will start slow at 30 mins and build up to 45 at a session.

2. I'll do it now.

3. I know that the pain will lessen with exercise and weight loss.

What have you learned along the way that has really helped you?

What I've learned is that it is important to make me time to do the exercise. It is easy to say I don't have time. You make time for what is important.

1. All or Nothing – Inconsistent – I tend to be so excited and enthusiastic at first and will follow perfectly the plan. I will measure and journal and photograph each dish or meal. But the first time anything disrupts (like life), I quit.
- Write out meals and snacks for the week
- Learn to say no to friends
- Practice accepting that I won’t be perfect and give myself credit for partial wins

2. I tend to eat large quantities, even healthy foods, which stretch my stomach so that I don’t feel full.
-Begin meals with either water or soup and slow down
-Eat 3 smaller meals and one or two snacks

3. Giving in to loneliness
- Read
- Prep more
- Journal about it
- Exercise
- Get out

List your 3 reasons/excuses on why your lifestyle (diets and exercise) plans have not been well executed in the past. Write a strategy for each one to keep yourself on track for 8 weeks.

1. My routine gets off track when things get in the way.

I am working hard to be consistent with my routine each day, making time for exercise and healthy eating.

2. Not always eating healthy foods for dinner, aka - fast foods.

Sometimes I am so tired by the end of the day that I just don't feel like cooking so.... I have been preparing my dinners earlier in the day, sometimes using my slow cooker.

3. Stress

Right now there is major road construction which is making it hard to go anywhere - even up to the gym which is only 1 mile away. I am feeling the stress of having to fight with this each time I leave my home. I may just start walking to the gym, but I'm also going to add some gentle yoga stretching and meditation at the end of each day.

1) Laziness on my part - or one slip makes me feel guilty but then I 'slip' for days.

I am remaining focused and with a positive attitude. I have been journaling daily, reading healthy magazines/books and planning ahead.

2) I do not really like to exercise. I have found that I love to do water exercises. So the 4 days that I am off work I have been pushing myself to get to the gym. I love it! The more I get there the more I wonder 'Why was I putting this off?' It's a matter of creating a new habit, which takes time. I need to push myself more.

3) I tend to be my own worst enemy. I lose faith in myself easily.

My journal helps keeps me in a positive thought mode. I take more time for myself rather than have the attitude 'can't do that now because of this ....... or that......' No more excuses. I am doing this to lose weight - definitely - but there's more to it than that. Good health and happiness.

My three reasons are related to each other -

1. I want to strengthen my legs and body to help avoid falls.

2. I want to be healthier and more likely to live longer and remain active and able to function better in my daily life.

3. I want my recovery from my future knee replacements (hoping to postpone until next June) to be easier and less painful.

I am making healthy eating and exercise a priority!

I am making fresh produce a major part of my diet, reducing portion size and eating my main meal during the day instead of waiting for dinner.

I have a personal trainer once a week to help me with strength training and specific exercises to strengthen my legs.

I am swimming and doing other pool activities 4-6 times a week for as long as I choose.

I am focusing on positive lifestyle changes that will carry over even during the school year and next summer during recovery when my exercise will be more limited so that the progress I make won't disappear.

1) inconsistent - I lose focus and live in the moment, a slip becomes a slide.

I will follow my daily checklist/routine

2) at times I hate to exercise - spend to much time indoors

Put on sunscreen first thing and get outside. I will be away from home and it will be easier to prioritize exercise.

3) I eat too much. I eat the wrong foods. I sometimes graze late at night.

Stick to 3 meals a day.
Nutrition track.
Eat more filler foods - salad, vegetables.

I will do it tomorrow ends today.
