Alana CICO has been pounded into our heads forever. it was REALLY hard for me to trust Jack as he asked me to do. i did gain the first week of doing 2k cals..but then it levelled out and i started losing again.
he and another member, Erin, ate 5k cals a day for a month to disprove the CICO theory. she lost...breaking a year long stall. he gained i think 4 pounds...and did a body composition test before and after. his gain was fluid and muscle..not fat..and shen he dropped to his normal cals, which i think he told me were around 2500/day? he then lost fat. but 30 days of 5 thousand cals? if CICO were correct, he would have gained a BUNCH, as would Erin have.
I'm a believer...

Hmmm. I think Coach Jack has some very valid points in this. I'm coming from a CICO (calories in calories out) kinda mindset but I'm listening to all this and thinking....The last thing I want to have happen is my hair falling out! ACK!!!

When someone who's been doing this for a while and been successfull, I'm all EARS!! (thank you NIGHTSKYSTAR, PIPPAMOUSE and APPLEVEE). Think I'd better get over to my nutrition goals and adjust a couple (all) the thingies.

For some reason, the other link didn't work for me. Then I did a search inside the site and found this link. So maybe this works for someone else too.

Years ago, I would read my grandma's Prevention magazine and I read that Pantothenic acid (sp?) was good for hair. I started taking that and it's always helped out. Most of the B Vitamins are needed for (insert chemical jargon I don't fully understand) the hair/skin/nervous system stuff to do the making of protein and utilitizing amino acids to somehow automagically or miraculously (depending on One's point of view) improve hair. Wish I could remember more about it all but it has always been worked for me.....

While I am certainly no expert, everything I have read about Keto, and from what others have also said, 1200 cal is too low on keto. Others may have more to chime in with, but that does seem a bit low combined with keto. That is often the level of calories where most peoples bodies will go into "starvation mode," Keto or not. So perhaps that's the problem? Most resources I've read indicate that calories are totally secondary and as long as you are keeping it "reasonable" will experience weight loss, but certainly the other benefits such as diabetes control. I would consider increasing your caloric intake by a couple of hundred calories, probably coming mostly from fat, and see how that goes.

I have been taking 5000 mcg of sublingual Biotin, and last month added an additional 5000 mcg tablet. Hopefully I'll start seeing results soon. In the meantime I need to use powder to camoflage my scalp. Unfortunately there is nothing that can hide the fact that my hair is as thin as spider silk. I eat about 1200 calories a day and keep my carbs at 20 max due to my Type 2 Diabetes which is completely controlled with the KETO diet. Thanks

I have read that too few calories on Keto will lead to hair loss. Don't know if this applies in your case...

I sure did lose a lot of hair the first year. I added Biotin but was not taking enough. Finally upped my dose to 10,000 mcg daily and that finally stopped the fallout. It has slowly begun to fill in as I continue with the Biotin. I've been through chemo twice, though, so my follicles are fragile. Still, thin hair is worth it. I feel wonderful.

I am experiencing tremendous hair loss during the last year I've been on the KETO diet. I've lost 44 pounds and feel great otherwise. Is this common? Or has anyone else experienced this while on the KETO diet?
