The work of Volek and Phinney suggests that the hip/waist ratio is a more reliable indicator of cardiac risk and not overall cholesterol, which is interesting. They also talk about advanced cholesterol testing such as lipid density rather than traditional HDL/LDL cholesterol testing which doctors over rely on.

PATTYCAKE,
I've always been interested in apple cider vinegar and it's impact on bad cholesterol. But since I don't have high cholesterol I don't have a motivation to try it.

What about apple cider vinegar's effect on blood lipids and elevated liver enzymes due to non-alcoholic fatty liver? A healthy liver effectively removes excessive cholesterol, LDL, and other lipids. Obesity, especially around the waist, is a good indicator that someone may have a fatty liver. And I am living, breathing proof that apple cider vinegar is a positive influence, recognizing that every body is different. It's much cheaper and less risky than statins that may be prescribed, although NO ONE SHOULD STOP following doctor's orders without first talking to their doctor.

Drinking just 1-2 Tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in a very large glass of water (to dilute the acidity which may affect tooth enamel in the same way that soda or acidic juices might) daily has made a huge impact on my numbers, in spite of a high fat keto diet that includes coconut oil, butter, eggs, and red meat. My most recent liver enzyme numbers are on the low side of normal, after exceeding the highest level of normal for a number of years while on a relatively "normal" diet much lower in fat.

If you have high cholesterol, the first guess is to not eat foods high in cholesterol.

The problem is that for a healthy person the body products 80 to 85% of its cholesterol internally, and only the much smaller part from food. Here is that information from Harvard Medical School:

If your cholesterol is high, chances are it is that internal generation that is out of balance. You can cut your consumption of dietary cholesterol to zero, but the internal generation is still way out of whack.

What to do then? One option is to take statin drugs which lower the internal generation. But a second surprising choice is to eat less carbs. Excess consumption of carbs seems to raise that internal generation:
