I did the water aerobics class 1x last week on Friday because we were away on vaacation. I have plans to be ther 2 or 3 times this wee, depending on tomorrow's visit to the orthopedic doc. Love it - it's a fun and very social time sinceI know almost all the girls there!

That will be great for you!

Water aerobics is a win-win for me because not only am I strengthening the muscles in the leg I broke 2 years ago, but I get to do it with lots of friends. It helps to relieve the edema in my legs because of the activity and water pressure, and best of all, now that i'm 65, my insurance pays for it - you can't beat free YMCA memberships!

Water aerobics for the second time this week - I plan to go to all 3 sessions this week. Doing good with the angina andthe arthritis in my hip seems to be responding well to the activity

Water aerobics today. i was in the pool for 1/2 hour good workout - I feel better today after the morning workout, and hope to be able to stay in longer over time. The water is great not only for helping me to move freely without crutches, it also works wonders on the edema in my legs from the water pressure as well as the aerobics. Yay!

I exercised my brain today, helping a former parishoner with a problem and then actively listening a neighbor who lives across the street who has some serious issues.. That is almost as tiring as walking! Maybe I need to get out and go tonight. A walk around the church building would do me good.

I took a walk with our church's administrative assistant today. Both of us need to get into shape, so we are walking for half an hour together twice a week to get motivated. I also did a short exercise routine using Fitbit Coach!

emoticon Congrats on the 500 fitness minute trophy each month since January!!!! Do you count your aqua gym activity too? That is so good for you. I love it that you got the bike from your boss. Yay!

I do still have mine and have used it a bit more these last few months. It is a reclining one, but unfortunately it doesn't fold up like yours! Oh well It is in the living room and is a reminder to me that I still need to work harder on it. I don't know if I will ever be able to get my knee to bend far enough to pedal all the way around - right now I can only go half way around and have to pedal forward then backward. It doesn't register any of the readings that way, but it still works and is good exercise.

I know it's such a good video! I love the fact that you need hardly any space, and it only takes 10 minutes! and she even has her dog running around! Yes make sure you build up slowly so as not to set off your angina.

Well today I am SOOOO encouraged because I have had the SP 500 activity minutes trophy for the 3rd month in a row!! I had been scoring the 250 minute trophy nearly every month since I joined, but the 500 mins one was more of a rarity. Yay emoticon so far for 2018 I have been doing 500 activity minutes per month! Hopefully if I can add in more of the walking videos and some time on the exercise bike, I might get the trophy earlier in the month!

Bonnie do you still do your exercise bike? it's a reclining one isn't it? We have one now that folds up really small so it's much more practical. One of the many blessings from my boss's house move!

Larousse, I love that video! As I watched the first few minutes of it I wondered if I could try that with the walker. LOL! I actually did try it! I did a whole minute of faster walking in place with the walker!!!!! Because I'm not used to it I had to stop so my angina wouldn't flare up, but I think i should try that every day and see if I can increase my time over the next few months! With the healing that has happened over the last few months in my leg I'm ready to try anything! Well...almost anything. emoticon I'll add a few arm reps with hand weights in another week or so!

I followed this video twice last week during lunch breaks. It's great! I don't do the jogging, but I lift my knees as high as possible. Might even try it again this afternoon.

Bonnie, LOL at your last comment, rowing machine mopping! When I'm in a hurry to get our tile floors looking presentable, I do "shuffle-dance" mopping with those heavy duty wipes.

Well, yesterday I spent 2 and a half hours mopping my kitchen and bathroom floors. No, they're not that big, but my leg was hurting a little so I swept and mopped using an office chair on wheels. Did you ever mop sitting down? I felt like I was using a rowing machine. LOL! So I'm counting that as exercise!.

WooHoo Claire, keep it up!

I just wanted to report some progress with my leg - I notice it here at camp more than at home. I was able to get into the tub easier and to stand longer than the last time I was here so I know there has been some progress. I'm able to stand with the walker for most of the meal prep here too. Yay for progress!

I am a bit frustrated today. I am finding that I have a low tolerance for exercise these days. From arthritis in my Martha hip (My good right leg that tends to complain about having to bear the most weight right now LOL!) to increased angina I am not able to do much. I am trying to walk though even if it's just a little each day just to keep the blood flowing. so please pray the doctor will let me go back to the pool for modified activity soon!

In the meantime, I am trying lose weight by eating more veggies, protein and calcium rich foods and to cut way back on carbs. So far it is very slow going. But at least it's going.

Made it to aqua gym last night despite the visitors arriving! I was a bit late but we did a fair bit of work. I missed it last Thursday because of the train service being disrupted. emoticon aargh I was so mad. And Friday morning I had a terrible journey too. It's usually 50 minutes door to door, but Thurs evening and Fri morning were both 2.5 hours! I was exhausted, and I took the day off on Monday to recuperate. Feel better now having had time to just potter around at home.
I have been averaging about 45k steps in a week, that's about 6k a day, although my target is 8k. So not doing too badly but room for improvement!

Bonnie, I am SOOOO pleased you're enjoying the pool so much! It's such a great way to move those muscles! And sounds like your walking is improving too.

Larousse, the balloon sounds like fun even if it doesn't go anywhere but up. I bet the view is phenomenal! How are you doing with your walking?

Last week I averaged 575 steps per day and did just over 2 miles for the week with walking. I made it to the pool 2 x out of 3 because the weather was very bad on Wednesday. I couldn't take the chance of falling on snow or icy spots. I did 10 minutes on my bike and had 2 hours of pool time. Still a pretty good week.

Ha well I should point out that the hot air balloon doesn't actually GO anywhere, it's tethered to the spot and just goes up about 150 meters. I think I would be too scared to actually fly anywhere in one, you hear of so many accidents.

Now the weather is better I really need to walk to the station and back. I have found it's fairly easy to hit my 10k steps in a day, it means doing the station walk both ways instead of getting the bus, and getting out and walking round a few blocks at lunchtime. That's easy, right???!!

We found a restaurant near the office the other day that does what you call "speedies", chicken and veg kabobs that they slide into a baguette sandwich. Mmm I might have that for lunch! :)

Yay Larousse! Over 13000 steps is great. Oh my I love hot air balloons - they are so fun to watch. I will be anxious to hear about your excursion when you get to use your voucher. When we lived in New York for awhile, the community nearby sponsored a hot air balloon festival each year. The sky would be full of them. One of the mainstays of the festival was the food - they made kabobs with chicken they called "speedies" which they slid off the skewers onto a thick piece of crusty bread. They had contests to see who had the best marinade recipe for their speedies too. it was lots of fun.

This past week I averaged 650 steps per day and walked 2.1 miles. I also had 2 aqua classes of one hour each. Counted my friend's Garmen monitor read out, , that would be about another 6000-7000 steps which would put my average steps at about 1659 per day LOL! It feels good to be moving more!

LOL Bonnie I know that feeling! Wow your aqua sessions are much longer than mine! We do 45 minutes, generally split into 15 mins cardio, 15 mins arm & leg movements, then 15 mins of abs.

Yesterday was a super-sporty day for me! I walked (drum roll please) 13,201 steps, which equals 10 km! Over 6 miles! In my lunch break, I went off on the metro to a park on the outskirts of Paris, where they have a hot air balloon. The weather is bad at the moment so they are not flying much, but I had a gift voucher to use up before March 11th. So I needed to get there this week to exchange the voucher for some undated tickets. It was quite a long walk from the metro to the park! And on the way home I stopped off for some groceries.

And had to leave just 30 minutes later for aqua gym! So my fitbit was very pleased with me.

Well done Bonnie! Haha that's it now, you've got the aqua-gym bug... emoticon

I made it to both sessions this week, despite having to fit in a medical appointment just beforehand! And have done about 6000 steps most days, and 10000 on Friday! (went to a meeting in the evening which involved a long trip by metro and long distances between platforms!)
We were all set to go for a long walk yesterday (Sunday) but it rained non-stop all day long!

This week was a good one for me activity-wise. I averaged 725 steps a day and walked a total of 2 1/2 miles this week. I was at the water aerobics class three out of three days this week which totals 3 hours of exercise time. Yay! I feel like I'm doing well.

Great job on the steps Larousse! And the aqua gym too. Now I know why you enjoy it so much LOL!

I had the best day I've had in a long while yesterday. I was at the pool for senior aerobics yesterday - loving it! And then the girls that drove went visiting and I ended up walking 1450 steps. It was a very good day for me. I was all limbered up from the pool so the walking wasn't hard at all. I'm still feeling a bit stiff today from the pool exercises though

I have been averaging about 6000 steps a day, sometimes more, sometimes much less... and got to aqua gym twice last week, despite the car having to go to the workshop! I plucked up my courage to talk to a lady whose daughters go to the same middle school as Daniel, and we have swapped numbers so we can car-share in future!

Last eek I did an average of 637 steps per day and did 2 1/4 miles. I also had 30 minutes on my bike. Looking forward to next week when I will add pool time to the exercise list! YAY!!!!!

I managed to do my Fitbit goal of 8000 steps on about 4 days last week! Looking forward to aqua gym starting again next week. Tomorrow I am taking Daniel to a small ski and skating park. I won't be able to skate or ski myself (too worried about my fragile knees!) but I will make sure I keep walking around the park to keep warm while he's having fun.

Last week I averaged 600 steps per day and walked a total of 2.1 miles. I only was on the bike for 10 minutes. I will do more this week.

This week I averaged 636 steps per day and walked 2.15 miles. Yay! thankfully my right leg and hop are starting to feel better. The left injured one feels ok as well.

Larousse, WooHoo! 10,000 steps on Saturday is so emoticon You're doing great between walking and your aqua gym. You had quite a work out with your "drill sergeant" aqua coach last week!. emoticon

Yesterday (Monday) I had 1070 steps = .52 miles. I feel like I'm walking better, so thank the Lord for forward progress! I went to the chiropractor yesterday and it felt so good afterwards. I haven't been for almost a year and with all the awkward walking, I really needed a treatment. (My southern friend calls it the "hitch and git" gait. LOL!)

Yay well done Bonnie! That's a great score!

Claire, that sounds like a lovely walk. I wish my DH Robert was more keen on walking. He hates the cold so only thinks of going for a walk in the height of summer! I love crisp sunny winter days!

On Saturday, I had a non-stop day! Had to come in to work early to assist some NY lawyers, while I was at work I was walking around a lot, doing print jobs, setting out meal trays, getting office supplies... Then got home about 2pm, quick lunch, and then off to church to do the cleaning! All members are on the rota, and we end up having a turn about 3 times a year. ( No Iranian church this weekend because the Paris church building was being used for something else.) Anyway, by the time I got home, I had done 10,300 steps! I was exhausted and went to bed about 9pm!
Yesterday I stayed at home all day, didn't even do 1,000 steps! so it's swings & roundabouts with me.... LOL

Checking in with Sunday's total steps. Drum roll please...... I had 1225 steps yesterday! My personal best so far which = .59 of a mile. I was at church twice yesterday. We went over last evening to see the last of the Left Behind videos. It is fictional, but still thought provoking!

Sounds like a lovely walk Claire and what a great day for it too!

I had an average of 837 steps per day this past week. It translated to 2 3/4 mile that I walked! Yay me! The last few days I have been using the crutches a lot, even for meal prep so I feel good about my progress. emoticon

Today Fritz and I walked in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on the "Rails to Trails" path from Yellow Springs to Springfield, Ohio. We walked for a little over an hour. It was very nice since the weather was so mild.

Great job Larousse! Sometimes it helps to change things up a bit with our work outs. He sounds like a drill sergeant. LOL!

Friday I had 845 steps = .41 mile. I used my crutches all day to walk instead of the walker around the house.

Well done Bonnie! emoticon

Last night we had a replacement teacher at aqua gym. He doesn't use music, but instead does different speeds of exercises! So we were doing breast-stroke arm movements, gently, fast, then slow and S T RO NG... same thing for knee lifts, and we ended up with abs, interspersing crunch exercises with some more cardio. Came out feeling really toned up!!

I have downloaded the SP app to my smartphone and have actually been tracking my food today for the first time in nearly a year!

Elizabeth, my daughter is a home school mom too - how do you fit so much time for exercise into your daily routine? Just curious. Allissa, also a pastor's wife, has 9 kids from 17 to 1 and a half and she struggles to find time for herself, but she does the stairs several times a day and watches her diet and has lost all of the baby weight she gained.

Hope you had fun at your fitness class yesterday Elizabeth!

Yesterday I ended up with 700 steps and .3 tenths of a mile. Old Arthur was biting my good hip which limited me a bit. I got my forearm crutches out to try them and believe it or not it is easier to walk with them, but they're not quite as stable since I can move each one independently of the other one. I'll be practicing with the crutches here at home for awhile before going out with them. One step closer!

Yay for you both Claire and Elizabeth!

I had 1064 steps yesterday! That translated to .52 mile on the pedometer. Today probably won't be as high because I was at church twice yesterday, but that's ok. I will do the best I can here at home. If the weather gets as nice as they say here this week, I will plan on taking a walk outside at some point. Maybe to the mailbox and back. Not sure how many steps that is, but it's a nice way to get some sun!

I still have to get Dan to get the bike back out of the spare bedroom. Christmas is over!!!!!

I finally got myself off the couch today and did some cardio at home. Too cold and possibly icy to go anywhere once I got home from my meeting this afternoon.

Tuesday - 900 steps

WooHoo! I knew it would be a good day because we had the Christian Women's luncheon and I used the walker to get into the building to the community room at the Nursing Home where they have the lunches. Yay! I felt pretty good at the end of the day.

My highest days were 700steps.

This week I will try for an average of 700 steps over the period from Sunday to Saturday

On Thursday I had another 700 steps. But yesterday only 250. I was resting a lot yesterday - the cold and having two busy days in a row triggered some angina so I knew it was time to have a low key day. We'll see how today goes.

Yep, I found the pedometer and it seems to be working. I did 450 steps the first day which isn't much at all, but at least it gives me a baseline so I can work to increase each week. Yesterday I too an extra lap through the house to increase my steps and ended up with almost 700. Today I am having company, so the total might be even higher.

Since the daily count will vary depending on what I have to do, I think I will log the steps for a week and then average them out. Then I will set a goal to increase my average each week. I know when I start going to PT I will be doing a lot more steps!

Today I walked through the house with the walker as much as I could. I also did some strength training. Unfortunately I overdid it a bit yesterday so I had to rest more today. Tomorrow should be better.

I haven't done much official "exercise so far since the second surgery, but I do a lot of stand up, sit down, and transfers from one chair to another which is probably akin to strength training. And walking with the walker is definitely more difficult than if I was able to walk on my own. But I only do a limited amount of walking through the house. Now tomorrow I will do more - just walking into and out of church. LOL! But I think I wil dust off my handy dandy little pedometer and see how many steps I actually do and then set a goal for myself for each day. I will probably be starting PT in January so I will get my work outs then! I think I better get in shape - PT can be brutal! (At least it was the last time. emoticon )
