Becky, go to the leaders site, find the thread called new emotiocons (or something like that). Scroll down the tread until you find where someone (Strawberry moon?) has added a link, then you can see some of the other ones.

To get a new one.... click on add an emotiocon, and click on any one of them. When the em# comes up, highlight the number in the middle only, replace it with another. You've added a new emoticon.

Try it with me. Click on emoticon , hugs, which is # 247. Now highlight the 247 only, and type in the # 6. You should have emoticon . Let me know if it works...

Lynn, Sorry! To get the different emoticons, click on any (for example- emoticon which is #227. Highlight and change the # - emoticon and you get different emotiocons. This is #6- emoticon , this is # 71- emoticon and this is # 16- emoticon . I can't decide if it's a butt, or two funky looking eggs. You'll have to experiment to see what's what. emoticon

There's only 2 kinds of rice I like ... a good wild rice fixed by anybody but me ... and the brown rice they make at the Golden Wok!!!

Mine is always pasty ... I've gotten better since Mom got me a steamer ... but I don't use that too often. The shish-kabobs sound yummy! emoticon

We're heading out to a private party and the Heritage Winery ... I'm sure the food will be great ... but the wine will be better! I know I won't come home empty handed! emoticon

Making Shish-Kabobs for dinner tonight! Putting mushrooms, squash, onion & tomato with chicken & beef! I also whipped up the Sunshine Rice that was recently featured in a SparkPeople e-mail. It turned out pretty well- I needed to add extra water & OJ though because my rice wasn't soft. Rice hates me. emoticon

I am doing quite well ... the ice packs 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off worked great ... took advil ... and today I've been doing the salt water rinses.

2 teeth were pulled but they held my bridge ... so I now have a 3 tooth gap on the upper right side of my mouth. You can't notice the change unless I smile ... so maybe I won't be smiling to much! emoticon
I didn't do root beer floats ... but I did indulge in the Creamery cookies and cream ice cream! emoticon
I still had about 400 calories left at the end of the day!

How are you feeling kiddo? Bet your mouth is sore. How many teeth did you have pulled??

I'm going to bring your stuff from the flower show with me either Tuesday when I go to the Drs. or Wed. when I come for garden club, so I'll give you a call, and drop it off. OK? Sorry I couldn't drop it off that night, but I had to go get Kaity, and there's a big problem there, so I figured she was more important than your "stuff" right then, so I went and got her. Still have Carol's stuff too. Guess we're going to meet in Titusville for lunch sometime in the next couple of weeks so I can give her her things. Pat M. took Mary's for me, so that saved me a little. Have you heard from Mary at all? Just wondered if they were home from Sweden yet, the brat! I can't even get my DH to go to Ohio! Other than to Conneaut to the White Turkey- hey, you could have a yummy root beer float!!

Just waiting for Jay. He should be here shortly. Then I'm going to bed.... Talk to you later. emoticon

I think I'll have to try harder tomorrow ... at least before I get my teeth pulled. After that I'll be eating applesauce ... I don't think I'll feel much like chewing!

Beck, your omlet sounds interesting! emoticon

Try this for something different...

Cut watermellon into bite size pieces. Top with crumbled feta chees, and sprinkle well with black pepper. Sounds disgusting, is delicious... emoticon

Here's some more interesting information I learned about the tomato ...

Although commonly regarded and categorized as a vegetable, the tomato is really a fruit, a very healthful one. Tomatoes are known for being exceptionally high in lycopene, a carotenoid that has antioxidant properties and may help prevent cancer and heart disease. Eating tomatoes with fat (try to choose a healthy fat source like avocado, olive oil, or nuts) increases your body's ability to absorb the lycopene.

Besides that famous carotenoid, tomatoes are also a rich source of vitamin C, folate (folic acid), riboflavin, and chromium, each with its own extensive list of health benefits.

For the tastiest tomatoes, grow them yourself or buy them from a farmers market or road-side produce stand. That ensures that your tomatoes are fresh from the vine—and healthier, too. Select tomatoes with a deep rich color and smooth skin and store them on the counter top where they’ll keep for a few days. Never refrigerate tomatoes as it changes the flavor and texture.

This was taken from the Lisa Barnes (health editor) article about 3 fresh ingredients for summer.

I had beans, cabbage, olives (not kalamata) pickles, and onions ... not all on the list ... but still good for you!!

I think pickles/cucumbers sort of look like blood vessels if you cut them in slices ... all the seeds (all the plaque we've built up while not eating healthy) surrounded by the fleshy part. Well, maybe I am stretching it a little ... but I'm sure we can find some use for just about any vegetable.

Just keep eating thos vegetables!

OK guys ... now I think you are making fun of my food list ... I think olives are great ... well at least the black ones. The greek black are the best. Too bad I have to avoid them ... I think each one has about one days supply of sodium!!! emoticon

I've added and altered the challenges ... If we want to add any more new ones we have to take something off. I did take away the Huddles ... put on those thinking caps and see if we can some up with something really unique that everyone can enjoy.

Just read thru Lynn's list again, and I can throw my olives out the window!!! The organs they help, I no longer have, compliments of the big C..

I read someplace different things you can do to disguise the texture and flavor of kidney beans, and chick peas. If I can find it again, I'll post it... emoticon

We should have an olive throwing contest! Maybe our August Challenge?!? emoticon I can somtimes stomach the little nasties if they are chopped, cooked & sprinkled lightly on my supreme pizza. But I guess at that point they really don't help anyways!

I'll have to try the mashing of the kidney beans. It's the skin & texture I don't like. Maybe if it's all mixed in my food... emoticon

Kidney beans can be mashed up and stirred into soups or chili, and I've been told you can add them to meatloaf or meatballs, but as far as olives go, you can get lots of exercise throwing them as far as you can, one at a time!! LOL

I'm not very fond of the olives or kidney beans! emoticon I wonder if there's a way to sneak these babies into my diet?

Anyone have a recipe?

So far I'm doing really great with tomatoes and onions. I bought my first home grown tomatoes at the stand and were they great! I like to add a little cheese and broil ...
emoticon emoticon

I've been buying the vedalia onions (our favorite)for a while now and we use them on everything ... salads, burgers, casseroles ... onion & tomato sandwiches are good too!!!

This thread has died off a little ... so I've decided to try and revive it.

Here is a new "Summer" Challenge to take you through to the end of the season.

My challenge to you is to see how many of the following foods you can eat on a regular basis ... let's post healthy recipes that you have found using the foods below.

God's Pharmacy

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We're such slow learners...

God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!

God's Pharmacy!

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Let me know how everyone makes out ...

It sounds like there are some good ideas going back and forth here. I love the idea of a calendar noting what work-out on what day. (I admit it, I have trouble following the Sparks work-out) I don't know if I could force myself to exercise at 6 a.m., but it sounds like it's working for you. Keep it up! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

When it comes to my workouts, I print out a calander from outlook. then I write out what and when I'm gonna exercise for the week. That's as far ahead as I can plan. I know what days are busy so I write down quicker workouts. or days I won't have time to shower afterwards, so I put in toning there. I do pretty well with that. Sometimes life happens and I don't get it done one day, but that's okay. I still have a plan for the next day.

The biggest change I made in my life was to do my exercise first thing in the morning. I found that if I put it off until after work, sometimes I wouldn't do it all. So, I schedule my workouts at 6:00 AM everyday. It works for me.

This is exactly what I need! I'm sor horrible at following a diet. I just fail time and again. I'm gonna try to control my portion sizes and only eat until full. The goal is to eat healthy too, but my lifestyle takes me all over the place... and it gets to be too hard to make the right choice all the time!(it's also hard to develop habits when every day is so different!)

It is so motivating to hear that you lost 40 pounds following the WW plan! Wow! I joined three weeks ago, and I'm down 8.2 pounds!

I was having a hard time just counting calories and using the SP website. It's pathetic . . . but I'm better about following the WW plan b/c I'm paying for it! :)

I wanted to check in here, though, to try to stay motivated!

WOW! You have done well, and reading about all you've done, and are doing, should be motivation to someone! You made me want to go running,(and I can't run because of my knees). Good luck in your 5K at the end of the month, and let us know how you do. Joy

Lost over 40 pounds at weight watchers. Have maintained this loss for over 2 years. I continue to track my food intake every day. The weight watchers etools are nice but expensive. Able to log my food intake on this site and it is great that it is free. Recently joined the Hamot Wellness center to lose a few more pounds and to get in better shape and I like this site's fitness tracking. Next fitness goal it to do a 5K at the end of the month and then plan to take the 5K training class starting in June at the peninsula. Plan to sign up for the Times 5K in October and goal is to run it in under 30 minutes.

How would everyone feel about sharing some success about what is working in their daily healthy eating lifestyle. Some may be using the Spark diet recommended on this site ... others may be using slim fast or other nutritional supplements, weight watchers, Jenny Craig etc. Some are just tracking calories and watching their fat and carb intake.

My first challenge to everyone is to keep each other motivated by sharing our stories ... our successes ... so everyone sees what the group is losing.

My second challenge is to have this group keep in contact through Erie Sparkers ... try to post at least once a week. Look through some of the main topics and see where you can contribute. Share some successes ... some failures ... and ways you've learned to get back on track.

"Unless we can hear each other singing and crying, unless we can comfort each other's failures and cheer each other's victories, we are missing out on the best that life has to offer. The only real action takes place on the bridge between people.”
