Being a nurse, I do recommend a flu shot, and indeed get one myself. However, indeed, this particular bad flu isn't well covered by this year's shot. And there are ways to strengthen your immune system. For example, my son who is on a submarine learned from his buddies to take Airborne at the first sign of a possible illness (eg. stuffy nose, scratchy throat, etc) and it can usually be "fought off" by the body. My husband and I, with very few exceptions, have found this to be true and it works on the submarine, where lots of guys live in close-quarters in a closed environment!

Here's a current "active" issue! Flu Shot: YES or NO emoticon emoticon emoticon
emoticon

An emphatic NO for me! -- Sorry! Can't pay me to get a flu shot! Never had one. Never will. -- Immunity is NOT built from an injection of toxins.
** Last flu bug I had was about 23 yrs ago. The family "morphed" it as we passed it from person to person. BUT we stayed home until fever was gone for at least 24 hrs.

** However, I have found some wonderful, useful-to-me ways to boost my system and I'm exposed to a LOT of bugs everywhere, every single day in the multiple schools & classes I'm working in from day to day. (I'm paying attention to all the things I touch--or don't!)

Recommendations: plenty of liquids, hot tea & lemon, Zinc & vit. C (either lozenges or spray), washing hands, using essential oils, and colloidal silver drops. Extra rest & healthy ways of dealing w/ daily stresses are also useful in caring for one's immune system.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love to see the changing of the leaves and the beautiful colors. I enjoy pumpkins and I love pumpkin pie, cookie and pumpkin soup.

Here it is September already... Maybe it should be called: "Question of the Month?!" ....Season?!

What are your plans for Fall? -- Do you enjoy it? Favorite meals? Goals?

* We are knee-deep in cleaning up our older home; painting all inside & re-doing all the flooring. I'm having trouble keeping track of days right now!

* I don't much like the shorter days, but I do like the cooler temperatures.

* Goals: I would love to have the house DONE before my vacation in November.

I went with my husband gambling a short 3 hr. trip from my home and we stayed the day. We take little trips just a few hours away at least every few months, just can't afford a big trip this summer.

No summer vacation for me and my husband this year. We just bought new furniture and could not afford to do both. Happy to just spend time with family and friends for visits over the weekend and have a few laughs.

Summer vacation(s) - do you have plans? Stay-cation? More than one get-away? Weekend activities?
I am a children's librarian so no summer vacations here, at least not in June or July. Will be going camping with the grand-kids in September.

Sadly, no big plans. I have my biggest work event of the year at the end of August so I'm already working overtime. The few weeks prior to it I will probably be working on the weekends, too.

I'm trying to make the most of weekends now and force my family to get out and about. Last weekend we went to upstate NY and went to Woodstock, NY and a couple of Hudson River towns. I put together a list of day trips/activities, so hopefully we'll check some more of those off in the next few weeks.

Good for you on the house renovations! My husband and I were just talking this morning about what we needed to do in our house! SO much.

Since our farm harvests for 4-6 wks in the summer, get-a ways rarely happen anymore during summer. We run 6-days a week, so no "weekend" either.

My sister is due in town from the Midwest in August for a day or two. -- She had wanted us to join her for 5 days at a vacation location 800 miles away. But, I just can't see driving for 2 days to "relax" for 4-5 & then driving another 2 days back home. Doesn't sound relaxing to me!

Instead, I'm hoping to gut our house & start over by replacing flooring & painting all walls. That in itself will be a huge undertaking as it's at least 15-20 yrs overdue on a 45 yr old house!

Spring Questions: Do you live in a place where there are a lot of Spring flowers? or Is it more of a change from "brown" to "green"? -- Favorite flower(s)?

I grew up in an area with 4 distinct seasons. Mostly, Spring turned everything green. -- But now I've lived longer in an area that is "green" pretty much year-round (30+ yrs), and it seems like almost everything growing shows up in the form of FLOWERS.

I had forgotten how beautiful my neighboring city was in the Spring. I traveled through the area on Sat. and just couldn't believe all the color!

I have a medium sized dog that needs to get out and run a bit each day in the winter but I just walk around the yard and throw balls until I can't feel my toes or my nose. But spring through fall she gets a long daily brisk walk as well as long hikes and outings on weekends and days off. She definitely forces us to walk more in the better months.

What are your plans for January 2017?
...How do you begin a new year? Special activities, plans, diet, exercise, etc?

As I've gotten older, life changes. I'm just as good w/ a movie & family around. emoticon

I want to keep cleaning out "stuff" and get rid of all types of clutter, boxes, things stored, etc.

I will keep exercise on a "mostly daily" schedule for the health of it, even if only 15-20 min a day.

I will keep moving towards less sugar & more whole-food items (single ingredient!).

I will look for healthy ways to manage stress and not let it harm me from the inside out.

Do you have special holiday foods? - Or what's on the menu for Christmas?

We have a brunch item that we only serve on Christmas. It's called Blintz. I prepare it the night before and then put it in the oven Christmas morning. It's ready in an hour. We top it w/ a berry sauce (or strawberries, blueberries, banana, etc!). Today we also had bacon & one's choice of hot drink.

Haven't figured out if I'm sending these out this year. Every year it's gotten less... Used to be 60-80. Whittled down to 20's. Now I don't know if I should bother?

Nothing in particular although I do like to read, the last book i read was "A Return To Love" by Marianne Williamson. Its the kinda book you don't read all at once , and then you reread passages as if though you never read them.
I drink a concoction every morning, I like green drinks. I am really focusing on the right caloric balance to achieve the weight loss that i would like. So today I did a smoothie for breakfast and Lunch as a part of my weight loss plan.

New question: Are you a "smoothie" person?

Just wondering if any of you make a daily smoothie or some other routine you follow. -- Recently I've read in a couple of places about the value of CHEWING your smoothie to assist your body in properly digesting the nutrients included.

Here's a link that has some interesting / useful thoughts & ideas:

New question: did you travel this summer? In your state or out of of state? Country? Fly or drive?

We leave soon for an in-state vacation to explore an area we haven't gone to before. We will be driving.

What is your favorite fruit?

For me, it's raspberries! I have fond memories of raspberry freezer jam & picking fresh raspberries at grandma's house at the lake in eastern WA. I love the smell & flavor!
