I believe that I have been home educating since my first child was in my womb! So, by that definition, I have been home educating for 22 years (my children have always been home educated).

You will most likely always be tweeking as long as you home educate. Different seasons of life coupled with your children's different learning styles will make this true, if you are wise. Keep what works, drop what doesn't.

Also, if you have many children, it is good to teach them early to work independently (coming to you when they need help). I am currently reporting (to the Education Dept.) 6 of my 10 children (2 have graduated and 2 are under reporting age). There is no way that I would have time to sit down with each child and walk them through all of their assignments. I assign work at the beginning of our semester and facilitate from there on out. Of course, younger children do receive more of my time because they are still learning the basics, but even my 3 yr old has independent work assignments (coloring or tracing lines by himself).

Some of us have been homeschooling for 4 plus years while others ( im a little envious ) have already graduated emoticon and no longer have children at home to teach while still others are just beginning emoticon emoticon emoticon The majority of the time the first year can be quite challenging .
