My school day isnt as full as it could be because my oldest is doin switched on schoolhouse, so much of her work is more independent of me than before. I expect September to be a time crunching month for me as we start a co-op for the first time ever. So we will be doing our normal school in the morning then the co-op classes in the afternoons on Tuesdays. I also have started on my drs appts which seems to interrupt my schedule as well.

I understand why Oma disappeared, but there were about 10 of us at the beginning o the month, even with her here than would be a big drop. I can only hope that we can encourage others to join in and be accountable every month, even if they dont check in regularly

Well my month is not ending well at all but I've already determined that September will be better. For some strange reason this seems to be the time of year that I "buckle down" and get serious about my exercising and things.

I am definately struggling with all the school stuff. I don't have enough hours in my days and I feel like I'm doing a disservice to my children. Thankfully I will soon be done with this quarter and then during the break I'm going to have to come up with a better plan. I know less outings needs to be part of it.

I'm here, but I did miss my Wednesday check-in. Paliz, your theory is true for me- school is taking up much more of my time than it ever has before. I feel like I'm not getting a whole lot accomplished other than teaching and correcting papers. I'm not giving up though- I'm hanging in here the best I can :-)

Mary, I understand what you mean about the weekend. Well we know Oma's running around the states being very busy, not sure about everyone else but I bet starting back to school has something to do will it.

As for me, well yesterday was a big bust on the eating aspect. Not sure today will be much better but I have at least exercised.

Well it looks like this month tapered off again. I don't know where everyone went, but I will be going around this afternoon to thank everyone for trying to participate in this month's accountability thread. We have a 4 day weekend with hubby this weekend so i am hoping it doesnt throw off my routine (or budget!) too much.

Everything seems to be moving with our low for the week. Next month i will have to return to making goals for myself to follow. Ispent yesterday afternoon making a rough draft of a chore chart for my children in attempt to find a way to persuade anyone to help me are around the house (not to mention better train the kids on what they need to know for when they leave me!) ihope everyone has a great middle of the week!

Well my Monday is starting off well. I had a good walk/jog on the treadmill starting week 6 of Run your Butt Off and so far the eating has been acceptable. Some school has been done as well as some other chores so hopefully the rest of the day/week goes just as well.

I did pretty well with my exercise this week, considering we started school and I now have much more of a time crunch in the mornings than I have all summer. I started off the week well with my nutrition, but the past few days didn't track, and I'm sure I went over my limits. The scale reflected that this morning with a significant gain. Oh well. This is a new week!

Mary, I'm sure things are going to get better. I hope your appointments start to reveal the problems so they can be treated.

I'm maintaining right now which I will take considering the time of month it is. School is most definately not going as planned and now I just hope to survive til our next break which is only 2 weeks away emoticon

Another 2 lbs down, i should be tracking my food. I know if i did and had it public you all could tell me how poorly I am doing. I mean I am losing weight, but i am certain I am doing it in the wrong ways. Yesterday I met with a family practioner. She seemed nice enough. I am worried it might have like stars all over my file that I am crazy or some thing. I am a very honest person. I seek such minimal medical intervention and sometimes I worry that puts me looking on the fray of society.

I go sept 6 to see a nuero opthomologist. The office I saw yesterday did basic blood work. Referred me to a local neuro and they are attempting to schedule an appt for me?

I finished the day up with making fried ravolis with marinara for dinner for my family and thinking to myself, "gosh I never get as much done during the day as I hope"

O no i missed this week's check in. I am doing ok this week. I made appts for myself yesterday. I meet a family dr tomorrow, then a nuero on sept 6. I haven't been setting daily goals for myself aside from getting school wirk accomplished and I feel I am barely accomplishing that. I have to go deal with a crying child now because i am not giving her enough attention.

I'm doing ok this week. I'm doing all right with my nutrition. We started school, so if I oversleep then I usually can't get my cardio in. I overslept today, but my youngest daughter and I are taking the dogs to the park this evening. Trying to rein those animals in can be quite a workout sometimes :-) So even though I overslept today, I'll still get some exercise, fresh air and bonding time with my daughter. Sounds like a good Wednesday to me :-)

Wow it's Wednesday already. I'm pretty impressed with myself as I'm on week 5 of Run your Butt off. It's getting harder and I find it hard to distract myself but I'm really wanting to stick to it. I've had 1 soda this week and it was only a can. I'm really hoping to see a loss on the scale come Friday.

Well, It's great to see y'all still pressing forward for your goals! I got hit late last week with a particularly nasty virus, and couldn't have cared less about many things. . .sparking among them! We're all on the mend now, and I was thankful to weigh this morning and see that eating almost exclusively broth and cold frozen treats hadn't made me gain 10 pounds. My goal this week is to exercise every day, have a lot of fun with the kids, and try to stay at the bottom of the calorie range. Happy midweek, all!!

Goals for the week were:
School: make and follow lesson plans emoticon
Food: track what I eat all week
Household: call the plumber, start purging boxes
Medical: start researching neurologist to find another to try emoticon
Financial: create, discuss, refine, then follow a budget for the month emoticon

Well i guess 3 of 5 isnt bad when you couple it with a 2 lbs loss.

I really want to apologize. I feel some of my post in here may be read with a "snappy" tone and that was not intended. I feel more whiny than snappy, but I know I should not be either. My head does continue to hurt and I think I have finally found someone to see me in about 2 weeks I just need to confirm hubby will be in town. In addition to that I will have to find a primary care dr. No i haven't looked for one of those either....

I think this week I am setting daily goals. Starting with going to church, grocery shopping, going thru one box sitting by the broom closet, making this week's lesson plans

Hi ladies! I missed my Wednesday check-in because I was feeling horrible that day. After coming home from VBS I took a nap (something I'm rarely able to do even when I try). This was not a glorious week for me. I got my cardio in 3 out of 5 days, but did a fair amount of walking around at VBS this week. I did horribly with my nutrition. I was astounded when I got on the scale this morning and saw that I went down 1.2 lbs. I don't understand, but I don't want to question it either :-)

Val, congrats on seeing those numbers! Keep up the good work!

Mary, I'm sorry you've been in so much pain. Has it been lessening at all? I prayed for you.

Running, I know you're not checking right now, but I wanted to say I hope you had a wonderful time at your son's wedding! I prayed for his new marriage today.

Paliz, I hope your modem arrives soon! How have you been doing this week?

Shelby, I feel for you- that fair food is sooooo tempting. It can be so easy to overindulge, especially when it's something you only do once a year. Congrats on convincing the others to join you for Subway instead. You're a great friend to yourself as well as them :-)

Mama, great job on your walking! I think you're right- some tracking is better than none. Have you been able to gradually increase how much you're tracking?

Hope everyone is enjoying a very blessed Sunday, resting in the Lord!

I am here and not posting much. I am trying my best to accomplish our school day, cleaning, and not snapping at everyone. I believe that i am being given a message to find that knowledgeable neurologist to work with me as I struggle more each day with my head despite taking my medication. Yesterday was one of those hide away for a couple of hours and thank God my oldest does so well with her siblings days. Once i had rested some i searched out the neurosurgeon I had consulted with just before we moved. I remembered he had a colleague in this state. Today I will call for a referral to that individual. I put on my happy face and didnt whine at hubby because that just results in an argument. Today the pain continues and so i can't continue to let it be a sliding priority.

I saw 144/145 on the scale consistently all last week. That is encouraging! Looking forward to working hard this week. . .so much to get done, starting with some good housecleaning perhaps. Hope everyone has a great week!

Very rough weekend. Went to lunch with the girls from work--which was Chinese. Have been on the run all weekend at the town fair...tried avoiding the fair food, but the rest of the family did not. Snitched here and there. Convinced them to go to Subway for lunch today so that was better. Lots of wallking tho.

Hope next week I can do better!

I am down 2 pound this month - great start. Now see if I can hold on to it. Food is my bigger problem - but both food and exercise could be a challenge after this week.

Last week's goals of:
Household: call the plumber, start purging boxes
Medical: start researching neurologist to find another to try
Financial: create, discuss, refine, then follow a budget for the month
School: make and follow lesson plans
Food: track all week

None of it happened so I am going to make them my goals again this week and see what happens.

I think i have a chance because i have a dresser to put my sewing fabric stash into now. And i think i will plan a yard sale for the clothing we won't be keeping rather than just donating it all.

I did ok this week. I did great with my cardio! I got that in every day, and most days did a longer workout than I had planned. I didn't do so well with my nutrition. I've been extremely hungry, and when I get super hungry I start craving sugary, high calorie junk. I think I only stayed in my ranges one or two days this week. My weight went down slightly though- probably due to the cardio.

This week my church has VBS. I'm not sure where I'm assigned to help out. Hopefully it will involve a lot of moving around.

Well I'm down the .4 I was up last week so the scale is at least going in the right direction again. I haven't done any tracking this week and I have had too much soda so that's the goal for this week. Cut the soda out. Sometimes I just need the mental break from tracking food and that's the situation right now.

I think I missed my check-in. Anyway, I've been walking A LOT, so I think I've done well with that one. I am making more of an effort to log my food, but I am nowhere near recording everything. I guess a little progress is better than no progress! And I'm not planning to get on the scale until the end of the month, so I don't know my progress on that one, but I do feel good about it.

I know cutting edge can be desired in some situations. Some people even seek it out. To have new techniques tried on them because they might be better more efficient than techniques that have been used for a long time. I just have been researching about treatment since my diagnosis last year. As it stands right now I just need to find a new nuerologist now that we are settled and that specialist has turned me away so that I can get whatever treatment. I know that first step will most likely be the cerebral angiogram. We have to finish identifying all my conditions before we can move on to treating them. Hubby is anxious about all of this because it involves my health (and our finances)

Drawn, I understand what you are saying. You don't want to be the guinea pig for "new" things that aren't necessarily proven to work. I see your reasoning. I was just seeing it from my perspective of having a father with incurable cancer, who now is in complete remission, thanks to that hospital You have to do what feels right to you. Everyone is in a different situation. I do hope things get better for you. I hope I wasn't being offensive to you or your situation.

That makes sense, to not want to be experimented on. I wouldn't want that, either. Like the woman in the Bible who spent all her money on specialists while she bled for 12 years straight. When I think of good doctors, I more of people who have been in the field for a very long time and are extremely competent. Cutting edge isn't necessarily the best phrase to describe that.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:23

I don't want cutting edge. I want tried and true. My conditions are neurological. The idea of people playing with my brain like play dough just has no appeal to me. Especially when i read from other patients that with current surgical treatments symptoms only disappear for a couple of years before returning then they are in debate with the drs as to if they have been "cured" or not because they had surgery. There also seems to be no consistent pattern to procedures done in the surgery, metal plates installed, shunts, shaving the brain, removing skull parts, rib grafts, fusing parts of the neck to make the skull more stable... These are things the "experts" do inconsistently.... Its not like open heart surgery where one technique is taught for all the drs to perform on most patients... I want treatment. But "cutting edge" is not necessarily what i need.

Just wanted to stop by again and say hi!

Mary, our hospital here is cutting edge, too! Do you know much about the hospital there where the dr. is recommending you go?

Paliz, congrats on manually mowing your lawn! Have you seen cartoons of a person mowing with a pair of scissors?

Yen, I had that problem last month, too, of getting hungry even though I thought I shouldn't be hungry. I don't know how to combat that!

It's so good to see new folks here! Glad to see the activity!

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:23

Hey girls! I've been soooooo hungry this week! I usually get hungrier at this time of the month, but this is excessive. I've gone over my limits every day until today. Today I did much better though. I've been doing great with cardio this week, and that feels really good.

Sorry to be so brief. It's been a busy day and I'm tired. emoticon

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Drawn- sorry to hear that about the drs. So frustrating... hopefully the one you end up with will be the one you need. The university hospital here is HIGHLY thought of. They are more on the "cutting edge" of things so when people here can't get answers from their regular dr. that is where they go. I have been there with both my parents (they both have cancer--different types) and although we do see students at times, everything is overseen by physicians. It may be different where you are, I don't know.

Running--safe travels for you. Enjoy your time with your family. And yes, I do have the crystal Light powders. I really like the lemonade.

I am doing well tracking my food. Starting to cut back on the pop. Have had stomach problems the last few days and I don't know if it is from changing to the CF pop or just more fresh veggies in my diet. lol Hopefully if it is the veggies, my body will adjust. And if it is the pop, that's one more reason to give it up!

Mary, so that the rejection came about in that way. Seems a little fishy to me but you are right, God has a better plan.

So I had a great workout this morning and now I need to eat well and stay motivated to get my work done around the house before going to work.

I am sorry i seemed to withdraw from the thread. My parents came to visit for a few days right as hubby returned and life with them is always interesting! We were still recovering today. I hope to be returning to normal tomorrow. But even, how normal can it be when grandma bought the paint for the oldest child's bedroom and calls to find out if I painted yet? We dug a trench to help drain out my constant wet side yard, talked to hubby about concerns as far as the house needing gutters ( he thought i wanted them cause they were pretty or some craziness like that?!), rearranged furniture, took the oldest out shopping, started sorting thru dressers for clothes that don't fit, etc
*******warning rant follows*********
Anyways about my rejection, i am still grumbling about it. But I know this only means that God is better leading me to a dr that can better handle my wonderful case and glorify him. The specialist I was hoping to see decided to call and speak to the dr I was seeing in VA. While that is fine and dandy, the best advice that woman could give me at any appt was to lose weight. I am sorry to say that has kind of been a goal of mine for about 7 years. In fact, i now weigh more than what i did when i first joined sparkpeople(by 20 lbs).... And after having started seeing her and discussing what was my typical diet with her at the time have returned to what is probably a less healthy diet ( although still not the standard american diet, my diet now is NOT as healthy as it was when I first got diagnosed with my issues). And i should also note that only one of m conditions is related to weight ~only if it is a primary idiopathic diagnosisif i understand correctly~ and it is considered to be a secondary condition to most of the other conditions I have, so weight loss probably wouldn't change those primary diagnoses (not that it wouldn't be overall better or me, but being overweight did not cause them and losing weight wouldn't make them disappear)

So after he spoke with this brilliant gem of a dr he decided I wouldn't fit into his office and sent me an email staring such and told me to go to a university hospital system in the same city as what he practices. As if having a bunch of students work in my head is going to help me any more than the professionals who already can't agree on how to treat these problems.

*****end rant******
i hope everyone is feeling blessed! I know that blessings come each day that God allows us to wake.

Mary,
mom to 4 beautiful children that deserve a healthy and active mother

So this morning I had every intention of leaving the house early to grocery shop and then get home to do school and planned on exercising this afternoon. Of course this was the day that my 2 little boys slept late and everything has gone down a different path. However, I had to mow and so I figure I would at least get steps in while mowing. Joke was on my as the power push mower wouldn't start which meant I had to yup, use the manual. Can you say W-O-R-K-O-U-T? So in the end I have gotten my work out in, and some school and the shopping (although that was half a train wreck too) Now I need to work on supper and get a shower.

Have a great day.

Mary - I live in Germany, so I am coming from Germany. We have lots of flights this time. I used to enjoy it all, but now I am just happy to arrive at my destination.

Shelby - have you ever tried those crystal light powders? They are sugar free. Might be another step to help. Yesterday I put some fresh mint leaves in water. It was really nice and refreshing. You have to let it sit for quite a while unless you boil the water first. I just filled a pitcher with water and mint leaves and let it sit and refilled my water glass.

Yen - I once took an exercise band with me but found that I didn't really do it. We had thought we would stop often and walk for 10 minutes, but that didn't happen but a time or two. We are travelling part of the time with my dad and he has to stop every couple hours so that will help. I think this time will be all about my food choices. That is the harder part for me anyway, especially when I only get those Amercian "treats" once or twice a year. Good job on your weight loss, btw. Keep strong this week!

Val - I get too lazy for emoticons. They look nice, but takes more time...Hope you have great success on reaching your goal.

I may not be checking in too much. I have a list a mile long and am feeling pressured - so better stay off the computer and get things done. I am still trying to track my food and exercise in spite of everything. That helps with lowering stress anyway.

In CHRIST I can!

Hey, folks! Can't do emoticons so easily from iPod, but I'm here for my first August check-in. Starting the month fresh is nice! And we've had some cooler days recently. . . A big blessing! I hope to see 140 by the beginning of September. I'll have to shave a little off my portion sizes to make that happen, I can tell! I hope to find time to catch up with all your comings and goings in the near future. But you know homeschooling. . .where does the time go!!

August start: 148
Today's weigh-in: 146.5

Time for my weekly check-in. I was very happy with my efforts this week. I did pretty well, and the scale was kind enough to reflect that. I'm down 1.4 lbs. Now comes the tough part. It seems that every time I lose some, the following week I get cocky and think I really don't need to be as strict with my exercise, eating right, eating reasonable portions, or whatever it is I don't feel like doing at the moment :-) So I gain it back and get mad at myself. I have to keep this in mind during the week.

My goals were:
1. exercise at least 10 minutes/day, 5 days/week (did this 4 out of 5 days)
2. track all my food every day (did this every day)

It's nice to see some new faces here! Welcome Heidi, Shelby and Mama!

Mama and Paliz, I know what you mean about the struggle to track food. It can be inconvenient, but can make such a huge difference.

Mary, I'm sorry you didn't get in to the specialist you were hoping for. Are you feeling better now that your hubby is home?

Runningoma, wow, that will be a lot of sitting! I wish you well with that. I know SP has some chair exercise videos, but I don't know if any of them would be able to be done in a car. Maybe you could peruse them to see what kinds of moves you might be able to do while you're riding. It would help keep you from getting too cramped, even if it doesn't do anything else for you.

Hope you're all having a wonderful, restful Sunday!

I am in for this month too.

My goals for this month are: 1. Keep tracking all my food. 2. Walk at least 3 days a week. 3. Increase water and decrease pop.

I've already switched to the decaf pop, now to change to water!

No - we aren't staying in hotels except on the night that we arrive, and we will be going to my DS's wedding, then crashing there hoping to recover from major jet lag. We arrive only 3 hours before the wedding, then will get ready and straight to church. The following morning we travel 9 hours to my brother's house. We have one day there, which is a Sunday, so I am sure I won't get out for a walk - but it might be possible - just not sure yet. Then Monday we travel another 12 hours. When we stay with my oldest DS - he lives in an area where I would possibly walk, if I am not alone. Then we travel another 4 hours to my DD's - and there it is safe to go out. So when I can, I will get out to run. I have a 5 year old Grandblessing, and the last time I was home he really wanted to run with me, but I was training for a race at the time. He was only 4 then. But he practiced around the house, which was fun. This time, I hope to take him at least around the block with me. My married kids live in a 6 hour radius and we will take a trip to each of their homes and stay with them. At the end of our trip we will fly back down to Florida to visit again with my newly married DS and DIL.
Basically, this trip will be all about staying on track with my eating to counteract the sitting.

In CHRIST I can!

Running Oma, i is so hard when you are forced to be more sedentary than you normally are. Will you be able to stay in hotels with gyms? Then instead of running in unsafe areas you can utilize a treadmill.

As for me starting this month at 218.4

Goals for the week:
School: make and follow lesson plans
Food: track what I eat all week
Household: call the plumber, start purging boxes
Medical: start researching neurologist to find another to try
Financial: create, discuss, refine, then follow a budget for the month

Just now getting here to check in. I am sort of half in/half out for this month. My goal is to NOT GAIN weight. I am flying to the States on the 17th for my DS's wedding. There will be lots of travelling - meaning lots of sitting, and I won't be able to exercise like I am used to - some places we will be are not safe to go out to run. And food will be an extra challenge. So, all that to say - that is my only goal for August.
Last year I was in the States for the month of October - and gained - no lie, no exaggeration 10 pounds! emoticon I don't want a repeat preformance of that!

I haven't been doing very well this week. Hubby has been out of town. I got an email from the specialist I had wanted to get i with and have been rejected by him. My eating hasn't been up to snuff. Well it is not that I have been eating too much because until wednesday I just wasn't eating very much at all (dinner with the kids was the first time i would eat something and even then i wasn't that hungry). I ate more yesterday, but it wasn't as healthy as it should be. Hopefully I will return to more my normal self once hubby returns tonight.

Liz, i am glad to hear that your weight gain is due to inches lost. I think that is wonderful news. It is important not to get too focused on one aspect of this journey.

Well I'm up another .4 this week which means in the last 2 weeks I've gone up 1.4 total. Not really happy with that BUT, I just did my measurements (first time since end of June) and most of them are down so I guess that's good.
I need to get back to tracking my food, I just haven't felt like it.

My biggest goal for this month is to really start tracking my food. I just cannot seem to get into the habit of doing that. I think it is because I mainly am on the computer early in the morning and then not much the rest of the day. I really need to make a point to get on long enough to record my meals. So, my goals for this month are:

1. Track all my food
2. Walk at least 5 days a week
3. Lose 5 pounds for the month

I'm in! I'm keeping it simple this month. My younger 2 started soccer, our church has VBS, and we're starting school at some point this month. Soooo, my goals for August are:
1. exercise at least 10 minutes/day, 5 days/week
2. track all my food every day
3. hopefully fit into that dress by the end of the month!
I'll give a detailed report on Sundays and a quick check-in on Wednesdays.

Liz, I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well! It sounds miserable. Has anything changed over the past few months as far as diet, medication, etc. that would cause this around that time of the month? I realized several years ago that my cramps were getting worse and figured out it was because of an increase of caffeine. This might be caused by something else that seems unrelated. My mother in law and one of my daughter's friends can't drink our water because the salt in our water softener gives them headaches. Have there been any seemingly unrelated changes at your home or work that could be triggering the headaches? I hope you can get it figured out and taken care of.

So since it's Wednesday it's time to check in anyways. This has been a rough week. Sunday evening I went to bed with the start of a mirgaine (cycle related) and it was in full swing til Monday morning. These have just start with the last few cycles but this was by far the worse. Needless to say I didn't do much Monday but managed to survive and go to work. Yesterday was better and I got my walk in. This morning I was feeling real good and so I did my full workout and felt great until I stretched. After stretching however, I have a full headache complete with upset stomach and would really like to curl up and bed which we all know is not an option. All I can say is that this school year, really isn't starting off well.Well not as planned anyways.

Last week I picked up a skirt at the thrift stop for $3 that I can fit into but it looks like I'm poured into it so it's my "goal" skirt. I would like it to fit nicely by November. Another "longer than a month" goal is to walk quickly/jog a local 5k at the end of October. To meet that goal I am using the plan in Run your Butt Off and am currently on week 2.

So what are my goals for August?
Strenght training 3x a week
be done with Run your butt off week 6 by the end of the month
cut soda to 2x a week (it's been getting out of hand again)
get back to taking my vitamins daily

That's all I can think of right now.

Hope everyone is having a good week.
