I found this in my notes. I like it still.

The more I am successful in being compassionate towards myself, the more I see food and itís benefits as positive, contrary to my entire life.

Being alive is a food trigger!!

Seriously, that's a good thing. I find that I have sometimes have a positive , even affectionate response to food and even toward food triggers - much like toward this kitty and puppy. And like anyone knows who has raised a puppy or kitty, you have to be kind, firm, gentle and guiding toward them, much like training and taming the food responses and triggers. You have to clean up some messes along the way. You have to find techniques to get them to understand when they need to go outside or use the litter box. You discipline but don't beat them up.

The following are taken from chapter 1 of The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung.

Iím going to put some of my thinking work here that doesnít seem to fit elsewhere. Feel free to comment or put your own thoughts here as well.

I decided to start doing one day a week where I donít count points, even in my head if possible. Since I had an event yesterday, I started then. I got on the scale this morning. The number was exactly what it was yesterday. I suddenly realized I felt disappointed! How interesting. I didnít see that coming. So I did the Model (Copyright Brooke Castillo, Inc 2013, also used by Dr. Deb Butler) to find out what I was thinking that would cause that feeling. I first filled in the C and F lines and then discovered the thought I had. Huh!

Circumstance- scale same
Thought - the scale should have gone up then I could forget doing this work
Feeling - disappointed
Action
Result

Yes, I have the ďdiet mentalityĒ
- Both Intuitive Eating and Dr. Butler make it clear that weight loss may not be an early result of the work. That disappoints me. I still want instant results!
- Itís more secure to continue to use outer constraints (WW) than developing inner ones.
- I still have some echoes in my mind of dividing food into good and bad rather than nutritious (fuel) and non-nutritious (joy).
- Iím still weighing.

Castillo, Butler and IE all emphasize that changing our mindset is basic to their methods. That takes work. Ok.
