i dont currently buy any magazines. i also dont buy goal outfits. mostly i dont want to buy stuff unless i can currently use it. i saved exercise routines from old magazines. the only cook books i have are not weigh-loss focused.

Yes, I think its why this group has never gained a lot of traction. But I do believe that we don't live in a black and white world and if we can gain some insight into eating more intuitively, even if we can't totally "leave behind diet culture" it has to help!

Did recently change "my ticker" from pounds lost to steps!

Well, and if you think about it, Spark is also a "diet" website, in a way. So here we are, some of us on teams that require us to weigh in, track food, etc, which goes against everything that intuitive eating is about.

Moni- I am totally on board with you on how hard this is! I struggle with the idea of not weighing everyday. I am a control freak and crave "data". But I also know what I'm doing doesn't last for long.
Jana- I'm glad you are bringing some great experience with you to our group!

This is the one easy step for me because I never bought into the diet mentality. If anything, I'm the opposite -- I resent being told how to eat, and the way I eat probably reflects that. (Forget you -- I'm going to drink all the soda I want!) So I really look forward to the other steps in the intuitive eating process. Like I told Becki, I was in an in-person intuitive eating group for a couple years many years ago and love the idea of intuitive eating.

Diets do not work! You lose weight. You gain weight. Diets are temporary. Intuitive eating is a permanent lifestyle.

Today- Throw out or remove any items that may make you tempted to try the next fad diet. This may be magazines, scales, tape measures, or clothes you bought for when you reach a certain size. Consider avoiding behaviors that temp you to try dieting again, such as going shopping, reading too many women's magazines or discussing diet or eating habits.
