ATTENTION MY FINE TUNERS.

I was asked what our thread is about and figure I will restate it here and now.
Within the next few days I hope to change to a fresh thread for us, so please
read below and stick with us.

emoticon Glad you ask.
I will be repeating this explanation better on the motivation thread.

We all are perpetually watching what we eat and how we care for our body. So the idea of failing and then having do overs is not the way to look at this self care.

Ideally we vascilate 3-4 lbs MAX, so see any 2 lb change as a time to fine tune back into better awareness of here and now choices. WIN means a self win, not a beat others win. We want to keep healthy and have our self esteem intact. But life and our feelings are not static. There must be some room to have flexibility within reason.

So food and exercise accountability is best shared in our MOTIVATION/ENCOURAGEMENT section, where we keep our eye focused on what matters most.

Gotta go but I hope I see you on our thread. There will probably be a new title in 2017
I don't think it will all fit but I'm going for:

Woo hoo!

I went to cardio and step class last night. Oh, my, that teacher is a slave driver! But it got my heart rate up and that was the point. And tonight I hope to attend a 2-hour yoga and Pilates class.

I walked Wilde Lake TWICE this afternoon. Got over the desired 10,000 steps for the day, which is soothing. It was really nice out there for us mid Atlantic folk; a real holiday treat.

LIZA, my mother needs a hearing aid more than I and my friends do yet only one of my friends and I chose to go get it. MARY is correct. It is a helluva responsibility. Let us all hope you never hear me screaming across the country that I ever lost one!

It's THE coolest that the iPhone rings right into my ear pieces and I don't even have to have the phone near my head to have a conversation! Love that! Mumblers and speaking away from facing me isn't helped. Folks still have to care about how they communicate for me to benefit. And my hearing loss is only mild or moderate. I forget which word they used but probably Mild, BUT it has been annoying the heck out of me for years constantly saying Whaat? WHAT!!

Weather is tolerable lately for being outside, and best if cold, with the sun. How much walking are you getting in?

Deep inhale. I must get the permanent hearing aids in a few minutes that I chose...Sooo $.
I have much anxiety over the responsibility of handling and care. They only repair or replace them once in their lifetime, and inasmuch as I lose earrings, am so scared about this investment. The cost could take me abroad for two weeks or go toward my mortgage. (Exhale) Trust~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent much of the day silently renewing my pledge to get to my fitness class no matter what. Much to my surprise, however, I arrived at the gym exactly 1 hour late!

Did I let that stop me? NO!
I got on the treadmill instead and walk-jogged for 20 minutes and then went right over to the machines and worked my upper body.

I'm proud of myself for making it work!
And tomorrow evening I'm headed to Pilates and yoga class and I'll be on time!

Mom did not drink milk and later in her life she suffered...bones are very fragile......took fosamax and that really messed her up...don't take it..... emoticon

at night I eat carrots, apples with cheese and in my traditions.....it is all about the sweet breads...pan dulce and so hard to not eat it when everyone else is...... emoticon

been walking before weather turns bad..........wind and cold.....I did walk in my p.j.'s yesterday emoticon just the pants... emoticon

I will get myself to strength training and aerobics class tonight, no matter what. I won't claim that it is too cold, too late, too inconvenient, too anything. I'll just calmly get myself on the path to reclaiming my strength, muscle tone, and endurance.

@Dale, so starting with those questions I started to look for answers. For me it was to eat, stop starving and looking for the next thing.

I eat regular food, drink milk, have sugar with coffee. But....I check before and after a meal if it raised my metabolism or released cortisol/ adrenaline. If it was the later I know that really wasn't a good choice.

I avoid polyunsaturated fats, oils made from nuts, fake foods and highly processed foods.

I include a carrot salad every day to help with digestion and bloat.

I really like that food is freeing. I do workout on a regular basis, and mostly strength train to increase bone density. I have cut back cardio since it creates a stress response and cortisol.

To me and for me, this has been life changing to eliminate the restrictions. I used to not be able to drink milk, or eat ice cream (oh the problems). I slowly reintroduced milk starting with 1/4 of a shot glass in coffee, then every 2 weeks added little more. After a couple weeks (6 or so) I could add a 1/4 cup to coffee and eat ice cream (good stuff of course). What I realized, over the course of time my body stopped making the proteins to digest those sugars because I stopped eating them. Now being regularly exposed, those proteins are doing their thing. I like milk with good chocolate after a workout.

Again this worked/is working for me. I've seen a change in not getting sick, enjoying food and increasing my workouts. I've gained a few pounds, but lost body fat.

I'm going for my measurements this month, but I know my clothes are fitting better.

Dale, thanks for that reminder to take every day as the gift it is. I fall into the pattern of complaining all too easily, and that is a big mistake. So, today, starting right this minute, I will be grateful for the chance to be alive and savor everything. Thank you! I needed that!

I will go to work with a grateful heart and do my job with JOY! And make it to the Pilates class this afternoon and be delighted in the challenge!

@Dale - here is a copy of my post explaining what started my hunt for a solution.

“Why I do what I do” –

In the last couple of months, I have been a bit lax in checking in with my health. Work, life, and the holidays seem to be always happening that made me put myself at the end of my “To Do” list. In starting this holiday challenge or for that matter the challenge of getting healthy, I asked myself “Am I healthy, am I getting healthy, is all this working out working for me and my goals?” So thanks to this holiday challenge I have gone back to basics, and started to re-read Kate Deering’s book “How to Heal Your Metabolism: Learn How the Right Foods, Sleep, the Right Amount of Exercise, and Happiness Can Increase Your Metabolic Rate and Help Heal Your Broken Metabolism.”

“Ask yourself the following questions:
What is your body temperature?
Do you feel cold all the time?
Cold hands, feet, and nose?
What is your heart rate/pulse?
How often to you urinate per day?
Do you have chronic thirst?
How often do you have a bowel movement? Constipated? Bloated? Gas? Diarrhea?
What does your stool look like? Runny? Pebbles? Smelly? Undigested foods?
How is your sleep? Restless, interrupted, feel exhausted upon waking?
How are your skin, hair, and nails? Dry and brittle? Slow growing? Do you heal slowly?
How are your hormones?
Could you care less if you ever have sex again?
Do you have PMS? Infertility? Low libido?
How is your energy? Dragging all day? Energy highs and lows? Mid-day crash? Wired at night?
How is your mood? Anxious? Depressed? Irritated? Sad?
Do you get sick often? Or not at all?
Do you gain weight easily?
Do you have edema (water logged)?
Do you have a hard time losing weight, even with diet and exercise?

If, you answered yes to many of the above questions and find you are cold (consistently 95–97 degrees)—especially your hands, feet, and nose—have a low pulse (below 75bpm), urinate all day long (ideal is four to five times), your thirst is never quenched, are constipated (good bowel movement is one to three per day), bloated, and gassy, sleep poorly, are tired, depressed, have no sex drive, have dry nails, skin and hair, have slow healing wounds, are sick often, gain weight easily, and have a hard time losing weight, your metabolism may be on the fritz. Even if you have just a few of the above issues you may be suffering from a depressed metabolic state.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but for me these were the questions that started my fitness journey. It is a journey since it is a life-long quest to be healthy. I have to say since starting the program at my local gym many of these questions have been the motivating factor in being consistent in my workouts. Now, I am still working on the nutrition portion of my life, but as long as I am aware of my choices they will get better.

Since changing my nutrition I have seen great changes in my health. I feel great, not getting sick, not feeling deprived (on the contrary). In short, I feel the best I have in my life.

Learning how nutrition works WITH the body has been key.

I have had pains in my right buttock and leg that clearly stopped me from any walking. My numbers this week are very low. BUT I AM CONCENTRATING on my caloric intake better, so there were two consecutive days that read 156.5 ....

Great hearing from you and do share more please about your current effective food pattern. So many of us can float in a range that is wider than what is good for our body.

Right now I have resorted to an old yet still effective combination of eliminations that I don't hold up over long term maintenance but do get my weight set point down into the range I can accept. Patience and self kindness are key aspects in steady focus for small goal for long term achievement.

I called an old best friend to find out that a 34 year young woman she brought into her family when her kids were all in high school has simply, suddenly died yesterday. Some time during the day in her home, found hours later in her living room. Her husband is left with a 5 year old and 18 month old twins.

I tell you this to refresh you to TAKE EVERY DAY you have for all these years YOU have, and keep handling YOUR life with loving care.

Hello Everyone!! emoticon

It's been a bit, but wanted to check in and say hi. emoticon It's been a crazy few months with work, but now slowing for the holiday. So finally I get vacation, yea! Some say I need it.

I've been committed to my fitness journey and still working with my committment partner online who has been great in motivation for me. Thank you!!

I just saw my before photos (May 2016), and let's say "not pretty". But since I've changed my eating habits, stopped the diet food, salads, etc...I feel great, haven't been sick and didn't get sick from a high stress project (which previously knocked me off my feet, with high fever, chills, asthma, etc). This time nothing, no sickness, nothing. Everyone was amazed, even those that knew how sick I got.

So later this month i will get my numbers, I'll let you know. emoticon

Glad to read everyone is working out and staying committed.

Lets finish strong for 2016. emoticon

Fredericksburg would be on my way to Richmond if I go there for a funeral. We have a cousin in her 90s who is letting go.

The play is a classic from 1928 -- The Front Page
It is unique because there is a cast of 25 actors and no one can afford to put a play like this on Broadway anymore. Therefore, it also has a limited run. Two of the actors are Nathan Lane and John Goodman plus many other very famous talents all in small parts just to be in it!

I squeezed a pound off me (156.5) this morning. I am not deluded. I know it's not a true weight yet but encouraging nevertheless. My eating yesterday was, shall I say, unique...

No walk in the pouring rain yesterday. I ought to do okay today, though. Weather has been inconsistent, along with many other factors.

Can you remain home for the most part so you don't share what ails you? My friend is contagious AND going to work in a sales department anyway (cosmetics). I shutter to think how many people will be in contact with her regardless of constant hand washing or occasionally putting on a paper mouth mask.

Shower time for the old gal, so I'll depart for now.

Oh, you have a cold! Boo Hoo. I am eating clementines daily and also concerned about the amount of dis-ease floating in December's ether's. You just reminded me to bring a paper face mask to this afternoons theater and to tomorrows Motown Drag Show.

Guess what people? I BOOKED A PAIR OF TICKETS TO A BROADWAY PLAY IN NYC.
I have wanted to go ever since my second stroke 2 1/2 years ago. It's happening next month and I invited a friend who has never been to NYC, let alone Broadway. So stoked!!

my Fitbit failed altogether Thursday and gave me 0 steps even though battery charged. At first I fretted but later said, gee, I know I walked over 10,000 steps because of my routines, so That is what I have on Sparks at least. I DID what I was supposed to do.

I have not checked in daily but I HAVE been concentrating on getting my scale back out of the 160s. Shudder that I return so easily. YAY that I have been in the 150s all this week due to my diligence and determination.

Don't despair over being stuck at 153. I have to fight to return to you and we WERE once so close in our efforts. Be appreciative of yourself for keeping it steady because you can see how decent an endeavor that is compared to my spiking this year.

FINE TUNERS,
I desire returning to a range I can feel is respectfully reflecting my opinion of myself. Sound too wordy? If goal was 143 and I had that... then 153 is still inside a respectable range. That I crept to 162.5 had distressed me big time because I WAS out of control.

I bought and combined what felt like a humongous amount of salad ingredients together, then feasted on heaping platefuls with no caloric dressing, right after Thanksgiving. It IS the trick that always works. It immediately dropped the scale that next morning to 157.0!!! Since then I am stabilizing my set point down to 157.5, 158.0 range.
