I plan a unhealthy 100 calorie snack daily in my menu plan. a few chocolates, a small amount of ice cream etc. so I avoid doing this and have lost 50 pounds this year. This way I can make it a lifetime habit and not a DIET.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

Char,
Stay in touch here because ...well, it's obvious. LOL

And if I go on a vacation down to Northern Fla and over to New Orleans, I'll ask you where you live in your new state. I know nothing of Tennessee.

emotional eating is the cornerstone of addictive behavior choices

we don't think it through so much as just allow ourselves to knee jerk to a soothing food

it is a process to slow down and learn how to open our mind toward useful thoughtfulness

glad you are here; give yourself time to come to know what's under your compulsive soothing

we all find our way when we pledge to never give up on this desire for healthy choices

I have gone through emotional eating bouts as well, but when this happens I get mad at myself then forgive myself and move forward. If you are doing a good job during the day, but not at night, ask yourself what is causing your anxiety and can you minimize it at night. I am by no means perfect and go through depressive times, but I try to figure out what is causing the problem to see if I can break the cycle. It is not easy, but you can do it.

I also agree with BEVPRESLEY that preparing snacks that you can grab easily in the correct proportions may help to minimize your anxiety eating.

I do not know if this will help everyone, but I have always had a dog and when I feel anxious or depressed I will sit and pet my baby and it does help.

I hope this helps in some way and I wish you the best of luck.

I can so relate. I have a "safe snack" that I allow myself to eat. I keep things like celery, carrots, or air-popped popcorn on hand and save some of my calories during the day. I have found flavored water or lemonade helps, too.

Emotional eating is my biggest obstacle. I'm okay during the day, but in the evening my anxiety kicks in and I look to comfort myself and distract myself from my feelings. My weight is creeping up and I'm in a panic.
