Hello Hope you are all doing well or at least holding your own while you keep up the challenge. I know I struggle with maintaining weight and keeping up my exercise minutes.

I have lifted our thread back to the front of our home page which closed out 2014 in order to see where I began the winter challenge.

You all may need to look at that if no one finds out where 3/4 of our winter postings disappeared to.

Anywho, what I found for me is that I was clocking exactly the same step total as last week, and I was actually a hair lighter at 151.0

So I see that my winter was a struggle because the scale even tipped up to 155.5 one day, but that overall, I am holding my own with a couple pounds of extra flab than over the holidays.

emoticon Monday, Monday... March 30th: 152.5

emoticon ENDING OUR WINTER CHALLENGE TOMORROW, moving onto the next three months on a fresh, springtime thread. Look for it and hop on over BY WEDNESDAY, April 1st!

I am really concentrating on loosening the grip of the scale weigh ins to start fluctuating down again. Can't be discouraged or hurried to find my set point settle lower than it's been this winter.
Fortitude, patience, faith, and visualization get me there.

I did not feel that well yesterday and was exhausted so I napped rather than walked, still exhausted. Emotional back ups bring me down. Can you relate when it happens to you? Anyway, I thought I had a headache this morning but held off the pills to see if coffee would do the trick. Today I can make up for yesterday I HOPE.

The new Challenge Thread will go up within the next 40 hours. If I'm clever enough to link here for you I will. Remember, however, that You can just get back on our 50+ Team Home Page and look down the categories to see the new thread listed under Motivation and Encouragement!

You are so correct Dale, my desire outweighs my accomplishments, this old grey mare just ain't, well you know the rest,

I worked outside this morning got quite a bit done as well as feed for the yard, and steer manure for my flower gardens, I really should have got a few more bags, pretty scanty,

exercise tomorrow, and my DH has a doctor appointment in the afternoon, so, won't get much more than that done.
I will weigh in on Wednesday, and post my weight, down would be so nice.
I have had 6 glasses of water so far today, I am going top have to start counting it all, think I am slacking off on water,

I do pity that heat you endure (barely, I understand). I could not live there outside of A/C either. Too extreme. But you sure have selected a bunch of activities that will keep you busy and healthy and charged up. Your eyes are improved now, so we are grateful of that. Who WOULDN'T want to be better than we are at things? But seems to me that aging is the practice of gratitude for what IS, not what one wishes. (To some degree..... I will shut up here.)

I am not the foodie but chopping the bulb can be used for snacking or cooking. The stalks are too stringy to chew. Mom says for cooking the flavor is very mild and easily overtaken by other ingredients. Matt, my chef tenant, made a soup from memory that had it but the flavor was hidden by other ingredients. I am losing weight right now (yippee!!) so watching calories and portions on what I eat is working once again.

I will brag here on my walking for the week: emoticon emoticon emoticon 3/22 - 3/28/15 GOAL -- Avrg minim 8,000/day & Total minim 56,000

Bonnie, so sorry for your loss,

I believe come Wednesday, I will be able to report another pound gone now to keep it gone, I have picked up on exercise, just working in my yard, which is never ending, gets lots more movement, and I am back to the gym 3 times a week, I am thinking about joining curves as well, my insurance will pay for both, my gym and curves, and perhaps I would be more committed at least for awhile, Yes I am sure I will have to wear com0uter glasses, really just hope my typing is still up to par, (I guess you really never lose that, at least I hope)
t is really warm here today, and the past few days, in the90's, crazy weather, I sure hope this is not how we will have all summer, water is so scarce and the electric bill is terrible, so we will see, but I really can hardly make it without the air on.
oh well, I am going to get back and make a plan for the month of APril, my water is about the only thing I am faithful with,

Happy Weekend everyone,
Not so good here. Cold (40) bitter. I walked up to mailbox twice today despite the cold. Guess that counts as exercise. Got on treadmill 12 minutes. I am sooo sick of the low carb diet I've been on. Today I am undoing it, as I have a pot of Hamburg Soup on the stove. It has carrots and corn in it which is a no-no on this low carb thing. I can't see how a vegetable can hurt you, but on the low carb-they tell me not to eat them. I usually put some french bread with soup, but will forgo the bread and see if I can get away with eating the soup. We had salad for lunch. My DH is on this with me, so that does make it easier. He eats whatever I fix. We gave up junk food such as pretzels, popcorn, etc. Now we have a serving of almonds or pistachios for snacks, or sugar free pudding or jello.

Michele, you are so right. You don't even have to think about exercise as it is a way of life where you are-riding bicycles, going to pool. Is the pool a free thing?

DALE I don't have anything with sugar or salt basically in my house. I didn't realize, I guess, that wheat & its friends were so addictive, however.

I never have heard of fennel being a snack food. I do love anise! I would like to try it. doyou eat it just the way it is?

I have really walked a lot and it feels so good, food is a diminishing focus, thanks. Any excuse to be out there works FOR me. I pity the people who see dogs as a chore they wouldn't endure.

Couch potato and computer time eat up many more hours of my life than walking, to qualify as 'breathing in the air of life'. I was sedentary and depressed for years of my life, and the choice came down to what I wanted for me.

If you keep snack stuff that triggers addictive craving, stop. Since wheat, salt and sugar all are addictive, take a LOT out of your shopping choices.

Matt, my chef tenant, just showed me how a fennel bulb is a great snack crunch if you like the taste of anise (licorice). I have all kinds of fruits and veggies here and make steel cut oats many mornings where I add some in. I will cook a whole cauliflower and season it to snack! Yes I do. And roasting veggies are a stupendous way to want to eat tons of them. My mother puts lots of different veggies in to roast and then we have heaping portions. Love the ratio change for the percentages/portion servings that make me trim and happy!

We can talk more about food only if YOU talk specifics and get honest with us. And yourself, here. I know you are very active but I don't know how you fuel your body or how often, etc.

1. I have used March to rev up my step counts each week, from a 50% goal to an 80% goal, and I've been exceeding each week's pledges.

2. I have stocked up on food choices here to enrich what is available to eat in the house.

3. I post every day on Spark! I write to my team AND I record all my goal commitments in detail for that day. ('other goals' list found under My Trackers column)

MICHELE, thanks for the validation. I got the novel finished for the evening first speakeasy book club meeting and walked only 4,000 steps. Had a glass of wine at the event and dessert but no other dinner. Slept like a log!!!

Dog sitting 4 days, will walk them so long as the rain holds off. We can use it!

I can feel the love and prayers coming from you all

My brother went very quickly after the vent was removed. The EEG said that on a scale of 1 to 10 his brain function was a 2.

I made the arrangements for the cremation and wrote the obituary today. My niece is working to get the hall t have a celebration in April.

I am spent, but do feel that we have things under control. My brother Terry will be here tomorrow night from Galveston.

I am retired, have been almost 11 years. I retired when my twin nieces had their first babies a couple of months apart. Then a few years later, two more, about 6 months apart. I wa the nanny. I still get the kids off of the bus a couple of times a week. It has been a good live.

It appears that my weight wants to plateau here which is fine if that means no more sneaking any higher. This makes me exactly 10 lbs over my ideal 66 yr old body weight.

Exceeded my walking each of the last several days. Today maybe much lighter because other things are important to get in here, too. Plus, I woke very early to finish the rest of the book club choice for tonights gathering. I think an hour on my back next sounds like a requirement, too.

I went shopping today and found myself mostly at the produce isles and dairy. Not too much in between. Have been cutting down on carbs to get my metabolism moving again. No loss this week-yesterday weigh in day. But am happy to have dropped 4 lbs this month. emoticon

They have taken my brother off of the vent, and all of the other things he was on. Don't think it should be too long, but one never knows for sure.

My nieces and my SIL are there. They will notify me.

I had to leave this morning, I could no longer look at him in that condition. I am grateful that his body will be at peace

Tuesday March 24th: 153.0 holding steady as I can

I bought lots of fruits and veggies yesterday to fill the fridge so now my pantry, freezer and frig have finally been well stocked. Over the winter I was mostly using up what I had.

Tomorrow is my first book club meeting here and I quite look forward to it, being in the lounge of a restaurant the caveat of my curiosity.

I am relatively certain that we have lost my brother. His kidneys as well as his liver are not functioning. His body is filling with fluid, and he is pretty jaundiced. The fluid is seeping through his skin in places.

They did an eeg this afternoon, and we will go tomorrow at 11am to get the results.

The neurosurgeon came in this pm and could get not pain response, and his pupils were not as they should be.

The nurse took him off of the sedation to keep him comfortable with the ventilator. He should have gagged against the vent tube with in about 15 minutes. He has had no response.

My prayer at this time is that he will pass in the night, so his wife does not have to decide to take the vent off.

Have to catch up today. Went up to mom's to take care of a bunch of things and didn't exercise at all..,really makes me antsy.

Thank you all so much. You are so very important to me.

I am praying that the vent will allow his body to not have to work as hard. If God decides that his liver will function again, he will get better. I am thinking that if God decides that Gary is not going to stop drinking, that he will just take him.

I am pretty well at peace with it. He and I were able to say "I love you" to each other when he was still somewhat aware. Some years ago, I had made my piece with his issues and let it all go, thank God for Alanon, and we have had a much easier relationship since then. So, I will be ok.

My mom and dad seem to be doing ok, but I hate to see them have to bury a child. It will be what it is supposed to be.

I just received a call from the hospital asking for permission to put him on a ventilator. I told them yes, because he said in the ER to do so if needed.

I am stopping in to ask for prayers for my brother Gary. He is in the ICU at present. He has had infection in his body from a badly infected tooth that the dentist pulled and then found out it was infected.

He has been bleeding from his colon, and at this time his liver is not functioning.


Please pray in whatever way is your way, that we can get a miracle here. Miracles do happen, so we are asking for one. I am very tired, have slept some this morning, so not making a bunch of sense, but we just don't know what is going on for sure.

They are taking him for many tests, and am praying that if he can get thru the next 24 to 48 hours, we will know more.

MY UNFINISHED POST FROM YESTERDAY WAS INCLUDING THIS MORNING'S UPDATE when my pinky did
whatever that spasm touch does and the whole thing is gone.

YIKES, BOO HISS, more than SHUCKS, etc etc etc.

Should have hit send when I found yesterdays post still on here and begun today separately. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.



Right now the last light snow of the season is falling here in Columbia. Flakes so fine now, they appear to be poise to disappear altogether. I am out of bed a couple hours earlier to enjoy the view over my desk window before it turns into rain later.

Glad you are with the Fine Tuning Challenge and reporting that your food relationship is healthy!

That is really far more important than exercise, which is a secondary level to this worthy goal of yours. Keep us posted and let us know the nuts and bolts of your eating on the challenge. Although we mostly talk about movement, not food, the fact is that food management is the priority in my book.

Wednesday MARCH 18th: 154.5

I had some hacking which interrupted my daily computer use. My son put an anti virus software in that never finished downloading, yet now I sit here anyway. He worked on the kitchen bulkheads (unfinished from 5 year ago contractor) and will return again soon.

That being aside my FINE TUNING challenge on personal care, I increased my pledge for this week since I'm doing well, so walking gets my approval. Food, not yet. But I am clearer on making it come back down and getting more of my life in order.

Part of fine tuning is for me to admit when I feel out of alignment (nerves/nagging anxiety, sleep pattern, personal business) and get STILL to address what has me in low grade distress. I had some bad stress days recently, plus this underlying angst.

What I find is that this here and now listening to my inner world allows clarity for me to then address what is "wrong". I am doing this so that the tension stops being in control of me. I addressed my tenant's behaviors lately in a calm, clear 5 minute talk. I told Scott my real feelings a couple days back about the anxiety discomfort I live with about his vacation with me. Being honest with myself must be allowed to rise to the top to effectively release. Otherwise I am out of control and stabbing at a habit to cope that isn't healthful.

Bill paying day and walk priorities need this afternoon's attention. MARCH is cold one
day and gorgeous the next, and has it's last two weeks left for us. Let's FINE TUNE today.

Blessings to all of you. I am determined that it will be spring soon.

Had a busy day today Hair cut this morning, then lunch with friends.

This pm, Joyce and I drove to michigan, a town neither of us was familiar with, for the visitation of Dr Mike's mom. I was very glad that we had gone, it was supposed to be about an hour or so trip, but the directions from the funeral home where oh so wrong, that it was at least an hour and a half. Had to stop on the side of the road and wait for some local car to stop and tell us how to get to this little town. They saved us.

He was very touched that we came, so it was worth it.

Very tired now from partly from the stress of driving and getting lost.

Jog with the dog? How lucky are you! I'm hoping to eventually work up to partial jog walks but I don't know now; my walk pace isn't as good as it was.

Very tense today, I am going to a long walk soon. It will clear the anxiety so I can get some important papers/finances addressed that I put off from week to week to....

The scale isn't being nice-but some measurements are going down.
Got a nice jog/walk in with the dog today. Beautiful out - crocuses and snowdrops are blooming like crazy.
