Thanks so much girls for your support.

Dale you sound pretty good, and glad you found your fitbit.

Thanks for the new thread too.

I am physically and emotionally exhausted tonight. Went to the visitation last night, and say people from school.

I think I wrote a post early this morning, just remembered. Did not sleep until about 4am

I think I will sleep well tonight and rest tomorrow. I am going to have to go for an adjustment tomorrow and not wait until Friday. Doing so much on Sunday has me out of whack. that's ok, It will get better.

The funeral was very emotional as well, but I did see the girls after school and that helped.

God Bless my friends.

Bonnie

last day of the quarter, wow, the year is flying, Dale, I am so glad you found your fitbit, and hoped it would be some place like it was.
you are so right about my mind lol, I am always trying to think about what to do and really never seem to finish one thing before I start on another, and as I get older, the more I mess up.
My medical insurance company, AARP sent me a new program I can join, similar to sparks, but you get rewarded with real things, not just virtual, I listened to one video today, and it was about the 10 worst foods we can eat, well luckily most of them do not appeal to me at all, but I do like Fried chicken, anyway, I think I will try it out, but not going anywhere from Sparks, I also joined a new challenge today, consisting of no candy the entire month of October, if I have this in front of me, I am quite good. 31 days is very doable
Bonnie, it is so hard to lose a loved one, I also just lost a classmate, and the loss of a good friend is terrible, but It also kind of shuck me up thinking about how close we are to the same age,
I am truly sorry, and am sending prayers to you and his wife.

I will weigh in in the morning, and will work on my fine tuning challenge, perhaps I can spice it up a bit

Dale, thanks so much for keeping us on track and reminding us to renew our goals. Start-overs bring new energy!! Good luck with your climb. Slow and steady. No heroic efforts. Just being there is heroism enough!

Best to you too, Bonnie. It is so hard to bid goodbye, especially to people who are taken suddenly. Try to stay strong.

One more reason to show kindness to ourselves and others: we don't know how many hours we have left. Let's use the ones we do have wisely...

emoticon Your wishes did come true. SPECIFICALLY, MICHELE,
your prayers came through! I FOUND the fitbit in the seam of my black leather chair. Thank you! All I lost were a few days of accountability.

SO MUCH has been going on here. In order to keep a lid on my healthy choices, I continue to write more with the FINE TUNING CHALLENGE thread than the Chat thread. AND In TWO DAYS we open a new challenge thread to record the last 3 months of the year, so look for it in our Motivation Section on our Home Page.

FIT MARY,
Congrats on that 5K of yours. I hope to achieve an equally strong accomplishment by climbing the mountain trail at the Nicotine Anonymous weekend retreat in upstate NY. Two full weeks remain for me to build up more stamina and agility. There is one walk in a state park here in Maryland which I hope to practice on that is a serious climb.

MERRY,
I think most people who struggle with weight also struggle with managing all sorts of things in our lives. Addictive compulsive behavior (slave to anything) and disorganization certainly underlay my struggle. Focusing on what is not productive is what I tend to always choose to do first. Anyone relate? Talking here for instance can be an escape tactic from my real issues.

BONNIE,
The accountability to the Fine Tuner Challenge plus my fitbit are keeping me accountable.
So sorry for your loss. Grieving is a way of pouring your love out further to him. Dian and you will need to allow this part of the loss. You already know this well. I'm proud of your race participation and supporting you through thick and thin.

emoticon I've just ignored the complications about having a Comcast tech come here and taken that needed walk around Wilde Lake! GOOD FOR ME.

Love you all,
Dale

Utilitiy companies can just drive me so crazy. Glad you had a good day, maybe they won't have to turn it off at all

I did not get any exercise in today. I am still very tired from yesterday, so I just rested.

Went to the funeral home and spent a couple of hours there. When I got there, I sat down and waited because Diann was talking to others. As soon as she saw me, she came right to me and grabbed me for dear life, we both just cried. There were quite a few of the others that we went to school with, and she was pretty emotional with all of us, and her nephew. I can't imagine what she is going through. She said she had a dream and Steve came and gave her the sweetest kiss. I told her he would always be with her, they were so very close and in tune with each other always.

Diann was also a schoolmate of ours. She was a year ahead of us. Steve teased her that she was robbing the cradle.

I can't sleep, and I guess you can see what's on my mind. I am so tearful and sad. Tomorrow will be tough, but I am sure there will be a lot of us there to support her and each other.

Right now, my heart is broken, but it will mend.

God bless all of you.

well here it is almost 6:00 and our electricity has not been turned off yet, at 7:30 this morning, we unplugged all our electronics and I went to exercise, and then we went to get DH's tools he had ordered and from there we went to Costco, to be away as mush as possible, anyway, long story short, nothing has happened yet, not sure if they are running this late or what, sure hope it will happen when they can notify us again, I do not want the chance of a power surge while I have something plugged in, especially a computer or television,
so I have been quite good today, not going to go for a walk, but we had a great workout at exercise, and I got many steps in at Costco, over 20,000 already, so do not need more

So glad you found your joy today. I am terribly affected by the weather. We are having such lovely weather, that it is helping me get through the difficult week and the losses from that week. I am just not very good in the winter.

I am going to get a couple of sunlight light bulbs to put into my ceiling fan in my bedroom. I spend a great deal of time in here. My TV, computer, and of course my bed are all in this room.

Hoping to have a better winter.

Tired this morning, but not terribly sore, so I am happy about that. Am going to go to the Y in a bit and get into the swimming pool.

Going to the visitation for Steve tonight at about 6:30 this evening when I know that some of my other friends will be there. Then the funeral tomorrow in the morning. Have to get the girls off the school bus tomorrow, so that will help me cheer up.

Thanks TB for the encouragement.

FitMary, glad you enjoyed your race.

Have a good day today all.

Michele - Thanks for the pep talk - that, and reading about Bonnie and FitMary's successes are real motivators. I checked my history, and found the problem: Wishful Thinking.
Today is a perfect day.

Thank you! That was my first race and it was lovely. Very low key and genuinely fun. There's another one next week with a maximum of 5000 runners; I think I'll pass.
Wishing you all a calm and peaceful week with just enough motivation to spring joyfully into the next tuning challenge!

Hope you enjoyed your soup.

Whatever the scale says, you are doing well, so don't let it throw you or discourage you.

I sure hope they get your electric back on sooner rather than later.

Guess you will just have to go somewhere and play, you can't do any work LOL

Enjoy your day.

My bedroom and my dining room are in total disarray. I have stuff lying all over, Not so bad with the computer, guess I just don't notice it, but in the house, I can become very lazy. I have decided that my energy needs to go for my exercise, so the house is messy. Oh well. Scott told me tonight when I mentioned it to him, I don't care, and Sophie doesn't care, (my cat) and we are the ones that live here, so don't worry about it.

Really is is mostly clothes and paperwork lying around. When it gets bad enough, I will do something about it.

The bathroom and the kitchen are clean.

Have a great week my friends.

September is almost gone, and I will weigh in on Wednesday, hoping for a big loss, but know it will not be as good as I want
a lazy kind of day, worked in the yard a bit, we had a little rain last night, not sure if it was measurable, but at least my sidewalk was wet emoticon

I have been de cluttering my computer, and trying to organize it pictures recipes and such, I am just one of those unorganized people, and don't seem to care enough to do anything about it. or perhaps, I am almost a hoarder, now that sounds more like me, because I do care, and am stressed out about it (not getting things done) most of the time.
I was busy today, washing, ironing on Tuesday, tomorrow Edison is going to have out electricity off from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening, updating the grid they say, some of my friends had no electricity for almost 24 hours, hope they do not keep ours off that long,
I just came in and did not read any blogs, but I will when I leave, I do try to, hope you did find your fitbit Dale, such an expense. and Bonnie praying your parents are fine, I did read some yesterday,
I am being good today, I made a big pot of chicken noodle soup yesterday, and this evening that is what we will have, makes me happy to think about it emoticon

YAY FOR THE 5K ! Next year I am going to walk the 5K in the race for the cure.

MICHELE

Glad you are sticking to your plan.

I am so tired, that I have forgotten what I wanted to say to the rest of you.

Got up at 6am. That in itself is a real victory! Was downtown by 6:50. Found my parking spot. It was still dark. Read a bit, ate a banana and a 100 calorie protein bar and drank some water.

Went to find the bathroom. Also found some coffee and bunches of people.

Walked back to the car, more water and reading. Back to the bathroom, and then went to where the walk was to begin. The runners for the 5K went, the walkers for the 5K went, and then those of us walking the mile in the family fun walk. I took my walking stick, and it really helped. It also got the attention of a newspaper reporter. He stopped me and asked me who I was walking for, and so on. I told him I was walking for my Aunt Marion, who did NOT survive breast cancer, and my two friends who are survivors.

I saw him after the race, and let him know that I had made it!

I also walked around downtown quite a bit before and after the race.

I feel very successful this afternoon.

Called my friend Joyce, and we went for a ride to see the colors. It has been a glorious weather week here. Today was no exception. Then we went to Cracker Barrel for dinner.

We drove by the river, etc. I told Joyce, Sorry, I am done, as soon as I ate, I realized how very tired I was.

Have been resting in bed ever since.

Feeling great, but TIRED

So very proud of me!

Have talked to some friend son FB, and we are going to work to walk the 5K next year. I have a new goal now.

EM Maybe it is time to reevaluate your goals. Start by writing everything, & I mean EVERY THING! you eat down. take it only today. It is all that you have. Make a plan just for today of what you are going to do when you feel like eating---whether it's emotional eating, or real hunger. Promise yourself that no matter what!!!! You are going to STICK TO YOUR PLAN just for todayl Forget tomorrow. Think of tomorrow when it gets here. I have been doing this. I have STUCK TO my plan, no matter what! It is working!

Today is kind of a glummy day - I'd say Summer is over. Yet, we're expecting highs in the 90's for the rest of the week. The summer grasses are dying - but I love autumn! I guess it's the changing of the seasons that's making me blue -- once the transition is made, and standard time is back, I'll be loving the overcast. - everything seems to happen so quickly.
ds#4 doesn't have a job, and has given up on even looking for one.
dd is pg with #3 and is living with her in-laws.
ds#1 posted the f-word all over his fb page because something disappointed him.
I've been gaining and losing and gaining a pound over the past 6 months after losing steadily for the previous 19 months - what a waste.
and I need to take a walk.

Hi all, back to walking, daily which is good, not been on line much, but all is fine here, my DH is doing fine better every day, and I am trying to keep my mind on my fine tuning, sure hope you find your fitbit Dale, I have lost mine, but it is because I mislaid it, never actually lost it, just did not change it with my clothes or left it on the night stand or in the charger.

Did 35 minutes on the treadmill this afternoon. Did the mile in 25 minutes, that is an improvement for me.

Also rode the recumbent cross trainer for 10 minutes.

Looking forward to seeing how I do in the morning walking the mile in the Race for the Cure. I am kind of excited. Have wanted to do this walk again for many years. This year I am able, and really happy about that.

Fri SEPT 26th: 149.5 emoticon oy vey

UNOs pizza Wednesday, New Years dinner at cousins' yesterday, the calories piled up. Though my friend Michael from Long Island NY is coming in for the weekend today I MUST be mindful to bring it down a notch. Tonight Asian food; must not dig in. Though I only do white sauces and mostly veggies with no meat, I can blow up further.

Poorly slept night, dog barking got me up a couple hours too soon. But I'll get over it. Morning walk is about to take place! Beautiful once again out there.

Read everyone's news. BONNIE, there's no getting around our losing more loved ones from here on out. Remember as best you can what joy loving that person provided for you over the years. Remember the joy they brought in your life.

emoticon COUNTDOWN ending this quarter of the year is upon us. We have no beginning and have no end to our self respect, maintenance and fine tuning health. We are happy, grateful, and free; let's count all our blessings!

I love you all,
Dale

Yes I am a fan of weight lifting too..,just had to stop during the healing from my surgery. I will say there is still a little "pull" when doing core workout.

Really nice out today so plan on making the most of it.

Bonnie-hope you are hanging in there:(
Fit Mary-know you will do well this weekend. Just doing the race is an accomplishment- emoticon

Bought a bunch of butternut squash at the orchard last week-plan on enjoying some tonight.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Glad your husband's surgery was minor and hope he and you are doing well.

MICHELE

I am doing ok. Pretty tired, but ok. There is a party for my friend Lothar who died on Monday on Oct 4th. He did not want a service, so we are just having a get together. I am making MORE cookies for that.

There is a visitation for my friend Steve who died yesterday, on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 and then the service is at 11 am on Tuesday. My friend Sharon and I are going to the visitation on Monday, and I will be gong to the funeral on Monday.

Picked my dad up today at the place where he took the car to be repaired, we stopped at the meat market, and I went to their house and made a big pot of Vegetable soup. Dropped mom off at the bone dr to have a cast put on, went to get Gracee off the school bus, picked mom up from the dr, and we went back to mom and dad's. Dad came home, and we all ate soup. It was so cute, Gracee said, Aunt Bonnie, are these beans in this soup? I said Yes, Lima Beans, She said, I really like them! She really enjoyed the soup.

Dad said he was going to take his walk after dinner, and she wanted to go with him, so they walked and he dropped her off at home, as her dad was there by then

Cleaned up the mess, visited with mom a bit, the neighbors came over, and I came home.

They are pretty well set, so I will not be going over tomorrow. I have to go to the chiropractor, and go out to pick up my packet for the Komen Race for the Cure. Going to the Y to get my tired and sore body into the pool. Then dinner with my friend Kate.

Sat picking mom up for my Uncle Jim's barbershop quartet concert and dinner.

Sunday morning will be walking the mile for the Race. I am taking my walking stick, and it will take me however long it takes me. LOL This has been a goal of mine for a long time, Have been unable to do it since long before my back surgery. Thought I could do it the next year, then the knee surgery, this year I couldn't find anyone that wanted to go with me, so I registered, and pulled my big girl panties up and am going by myself. I have even gotten some donations. YAY

I am exhausted tonight, but am going to rest in the morning before doing all of my other stuff.

Have a great evening my friends. God Bless

Hi all, been absent a few days, seems like longer, my DH had very minot surgery, Monday, and I gave blood Monday, so, what with me, mostly resting and him not being 100% I have stayed off my computer,
back to exercise today, and he is feeling much better, so back to my fine tuning, actually, I am still off the bread, water like I said is no problem, and the candy is calling, but so far so good.

Spent the day grocery shopping for mom and dad, doing things around the house, cooking dinner for them and cleaning up.

Very tired, came home about 8:00pm to find that one of my friends in the group of friends I have been enjoying so much from high school, died suddenly this afternoon.

I am praying for strength and for no more bad news. Prayers please, I am pretty much just stunned right now

Getting those good habits started and then maintaining them.... It's tricky! And for some reason weight lifting is especially hard for me to keep up too, so, Julia, I'm very sympathetic. But it is soooo good for us. We need those strong bones more than ever. So, I will if you will. I'm putting everything into my "big" "race" on Sunday. I'm ready, and I've already run the track by myself so I know some of what to expect, although I've never been in an actual event like this. 5K tee-shirt, here I come!
Bonnie, sorry about the chaos. I hope tomorrow is much calmer.
Dale, sending you calm vibes too. After my bout with Bell's palsy, I had to learn to avoid needless upset and anxiety. And it was a long learning process because worry and anxiety are so much a part of modern life. It's still a process and I have to remind myself frequently that inner calm is healthier.
Best to all! We've kept fine tuning for nearly three months. I'm awarding us a trophy!
Good show!!!

BONNIE,
You SURE DID have an intense day. Glad your mom is going to mend fairly easily!

I am not under duress over MATT. I am simply getting started on establishing what I need for him to be and remain very respectful of. My house silence at night and his unwinding from long days at work at the same time. It will happen.

Rain threatens later today. I'll walk Wilde Lake mid day since I had another doc appointment this morning which I had forgotten. When I take the iPhone into the store I will try to see why my calendars are not registering right between the phone AND computer.

Praying for you and your issues. Hoping that you and Matt can find those boundaries, and learn to live in more harmony. It does take time with some people.

Glad you had a lovely time at the park and with your friend and her family on the phone.

Thank you for all of your condolences, and your prayers

It was quite a day today. I wrote a post about it on the Chat thread if anyone wants to read it. It was such a convoluted day, that the post is also convoluted.

Suffice it to say, I got my cookies baked, frosted and packed up for Natalie, Zac and Vicky, but my day went south, so Amy got someone else to pick them up and take them to the kids.

My mom's friend ran the golf cart into her on the golf course, knocked her down and she broke her wrist. Then Dad had an accident backing out of the driveway to take her to the hospital.

It was a very long and crazy day, but mom is fine, dad is upset, but fine, and mom is to have a cast put on on Thursday, she has a splint on now.

We are all so grateful it was her wrist, and not her leg or her hip, etc.

I am very tired, but really wound up, so not sure when I will get to sleep, but I am fine too.

Have a great day tomorrow my friends.

I called MARIA in Sicily from there to share the panoramic view, wishing she was here in this gorgeous setting with me, too. FACETIME on the iPhones make it possible. So much fun to talk and see her that far away. Her Mom, Aunt and Uncle got introduced to me and Maria could tell them all about who I am and our friendship.

Dale-so your doctors don't know the cause of the numbness? My neighbor whacked her elbow on the counter and her fingers have been tingling ever since. Not good for a web designer:( I wonder if acupuncture would help? All the aches when we get older is frustrating.

Sooo I am going to be good and get back into weight lifting. Had to drop it for my hysterectomy and once a routine is dropped...

Upper body tonight.

Stay well everyone and don't forget to get a flu shot next month.

DALE no, I probably won't ever move back to the U.S. as there isn't any way for me to make a living there anymore.

Parents doing well; we are all well connected yes.

Oldest son is finally getting married---told us a few days ago---on 10-4. No big hubbaloo ceremony as they haven't the $ for it, so it will be immediate family only.

MY FIL is holidng his own. We took him out to b-fast yesterday morning, he moves slower than a turtle in molasses. So glad to be able t take care of him, however.

Off to Tokyo this a.m to teach English!

You all sound pretty good right now. If ever there was a time to stay calm, this is it. Matt really challenges my boundaries because his are so flimsy. I'll take my walk when I finish typing and hope to feel renewed and clearer headed.

MICHELE,
How are your parents' health and well being? Is the weekly phone call keeping you connected well enough? Do you ever think about moving from Japan back to the states? Will your husband retire someday? And your son, is he nearing marriage to his girlfriend or will they live together without it? How's your f-i-l doing?

BONNIE,
That your mood and attitude are healthy is so good to hear. Those operation years do take quite a toll on us. It's so wonderful on the other side of ANY recovery we achieve! You made me wonder if I will ever ride my bike again. I'd like to go for an excursion with Scott to the Airport loop where bikers go. I don't know where it is but Scott would find out. Weather has to be just right, as always. It's a flat ride so I should have no difficulties really.
JULIA emoticon
Son and daughter done good. Belated happy birthday once again.

Doctor admitted yesterday that my numb, heavy and tingling on my left side is something that won't get better. Before they encouraged me to think it would go away, and sometimes it is not there. BUT the point is, it will always reappear. Like a sensitive antennae to worry or tension or tiredness... I suppose. SIGH

Life goes on anyway and I'm to make the best of what I do have. I am not paralyzed. I have deep awareness I always gave to everyone else about their higher good that I now must use on my behalf foremost. This challenge is amplified by allowing Matt and Oscar to live here because Matt has very weak boundaries and he is in MY home where I must champion MY well being over anyone else.

MARIJA,
Selfishness and self care and being difficult are just alignment problems. I know you are sorting it out. No one does anything to you that you can't see from another point of view. I was always irritated with everyone and circumstances. Now I'm working on seeing my own dissatisfaction through different lenses in order to achieve the peace I seek. When I decide to do something I resent, I have work to do on my self talk. You can, too.

MATT is my direct in my face opportunity to live in my truth. To compromise where it is okay for me but hold my boundaries where they are for my own good. The situation has begun!

emoticon TA DA !
I achieved 78,279 steps last week! That averages a daily 11,182 emoticon Autumn is the best walking time of year for me. And speaking of autumn, yesterday we entered it, so this quarter's challenge is ticking to its end. We keep Fine Tuning of course, no matter when it is, but bye bye to summer. Bye bye to what is was and what it was not.

emoticon ROSH HASHANAH is this week. That's the Jewish New Year celebration. This year will be the first time my son (and girlfriend) will join us for dinner at the Baltimore cousins' house. WOW, a touch of family unity might occur.

Thank you.

Went to the grocery and bought stuff to make the kids their favorite cookies. Have made the first batch, have the second double batch in the refrigerator to bake and frost tonight or in the morning. Of course, they like two different kinds. LOL

Going to take most of them to his wife, and then leave the kids their own to take home. Hopefully tomorrow. I know today was a crazy busy day for them.

It feels good to do something, even something so small.

I must be way early, because there are very few posts.

Bonnie - Yesterday was not a high point.

Yesterday:
I had signed up for a cake decorating class. First class - OK - brought cake to grands. Second class got into a muddle because the instructor had to change one class day, she said she had informed Joanne's that there was a conflict on one day. Well, big deal who could attend what day. Upshot was supposed to be a double class yesterday. Of course the biggest mouth who insisted it had to be yesterday shows up late. A double class was a fiasco because the icing turned warm and everything was gushy emoticon

So there I am in class I don't want to be in. It just fed into (no pun intended) my worst qualities - feeling trapped in a situation by people, not the instructor.

After, friend & I got into a tiff because she loves to point out my faults and I had started to tell her about going on a cruise with in-laws (not my favorite people) and saying that when the 3 sisters dictate what happens they expect me to go along with it, when I only do it if I want to and that they regard me as "difficult." she said I am because according to their lights I am, why don't I just go along with what they want? Anyway this is too drawn out and I would need sheets of paper to record past history, etc.
Thing is, it is true, I am not easy going, never will be. I think maybe I should accept who I am. Trouble is, who are these people (and DSILs are not the only ones) to dicate and I do mean dictate terms?

Anyway, one last class and I really don't want another cake in the house and do not want to go, but, here I go again, feel like I am being a bad sport.

It seems like lately I am doing a lot of things I don't want to do.

I need to reassess.

Had a nice weekend. My daughter surprised me for my birthday by coming home, Had a nice lunch with hubby, son and daughter.
Walked 3 miles and biked 26 miles. It was interesting though. My husband had on a Polar heart monitor plus an app on his phone that track how fast and where we bike. Polar said he burned 350 calories the app said 900+. Slight difference if you ask me!!! 26 miles in two hours should be more than 300 calories.
Nice weather-cool crisp fall temps here..,my favorite:)
Have a good week!
Julia

Just stopping to say good night. Had a bit of a rough day today, went to see my friend who is dying, and I am pretty emotional tonight.

I am pretty spent emotionally. Will be better tomorrow.
God Bless all

I believe that what works for you, is what works. I think we can discuss, give details, encourage and be there for each other, but it is necessary for each of us to find what is the best course individually.

thanks for the well wishes.

I sooooo understand about the lying to myself thing. I have lived in the state of denial for many years.

FITMARY

Sounds as though you have a good plan in mind as well.

DALE

Glad Scott helped with the getting ready for your tenant part. That is a good feeling when your house is in order.

I love your advice and way of thinking, thank you for that.

Hope you enjoyed the time with your cousin.

MARIJA

I am looking forward to some strategies from you as well. We have to keep each other going.

MICHELE

Thank you. I am proud of you as well for keeping yourself out of the drama and calm

I think that Dale's advice for calm is a good one for all of us.

I had a lovely afternoon. It was the 50th anniversary of the theater dept at the University of Toledo where I attended.

They are having events all weekend, but I chose to go to the free one this afternoon, with a free lunch. It was a cabaret performance from anyone from the 50 years. Saw some wonderful performances, reminiscences, and shared great memories with old friends and even a couple of our professors. One in particular Fred Chapman has always been very dear to my heart, and seeing him and watching him do a performance was amazing.

Having very good feelings right now.

MARIJA thank you for the input about DD no, things have ot changed at all with her, I just DO NOT ! respond, which is keeping ME calm! I can only hope that 1 day she will be put in my position, either with her own kids---she said she's never having kids, by the way---or with someone else, so that she KNOWS how I feel,

DALE thank you too for that message! Yes, I am in the process of creating a new me, esp after what happened with DD last month. I am a work in progress! Holding my own on the weight!

Flu pain or sinuses or both? Got the senior flu shot, my arm was sore for a couple of days. I also feel sinus-y and a little tired. Which is what? Seeing Dr. next week.

Bonnie - You are such a well-meaning person. I know what you mean about starting again on Monday. Holding your own is still a good thing. At least you are not going in the wrong direction. emoticon
Like your plan for all of us to share some strategies that have worked for us in the past..

Michelle - I saw that DD behavior was a lot like how I would react when I was young, there is a lot of me in her and that is what often causes the clashes. Looking at the other side now I see how she/I hurt ourselves with our behavior. Also need clearer boundries.

MM - You have sounded so frustrated what with your doctor's and trying to lose weight.

My brother saying he weighs hime self on supermarket scale. It occurred to me that there is a scale at the pool, so I weighed myself there, then at home. My lousy new scale is 1 lb higher than the balance scale, i knew it was off. but now I can wrap my head around and not use home scale. i feel better.

Julia - Sorry about your friend, some shock after returning home. Hope Dallas had some redeeming qualities if you have to move there.

Good Day everyone.

Sat SEPT 20th: 148.5 still stay calm

I haven't stopped by since Wednesday, but I have concentrated on what's positive. Scott spent hours helping me get the tenant room in perfect order at my slow pace on Thursday. He helped me again Friday by carefully vacuuming out the living room. These two days of tending to areas of the apartment are greatly appreciated.

My cousin comes to visit today. Living right now in Texas, he normally resides in Florida. Both his parents died recently so we had funeral gatherings together. Scott likes him and will be here and Mom may hang out, too, depending on what we do. I want NO agenda. Stay calm is my full motto for the next nine months. (Oscar had his first "accident" in the house because I didn't walk long enough yesterday to complete the circle around the lake. He's a 3 times in the morning boy.) Matt better move in I guess to take over soon.

INTERVALS - yes, great to do. One minute out of every five faster, even in walking speed, will be effective. When we dip another 5 degrees out here I'll step it up. I walk old lady speed at this time. Building from a stroke always takes longer than I have patience for.

emoticon DON'T DESPAIR about the upcoming season! emoticon
What you had done in the past is what you did UP UNTIL NOW.
Create a new reality with us.
You CAN do it. Let's not live in a story of our past. Today is different when we choose a new story. I hear some of you processing this as I type. You ARE creating new realities.

I surprised myself and kept food control the last two years through the winter. I caused a new pattern to come into play which set the stage for my finally arriving at maintenance. This summer I've let my anxieties trigger food to insulate me, make me feel safer.

But even though this was done, still each day I know I can choose the outcome I really want. No matter what comes up, what would I do if I knew I could NOT fail?
I LOVE YOU ALL,
Dale

Yup! The fourth quarter of the year is always tricky for me too. More than one year I've lost weight all year and then gained it all back between Nov. and Jan. Not a good cycle!
This year I'm going to be smarter. Keeping my eating in check at all the holiday events is one piece, but keeping my activity levels high and even boosting them higher during the cold months is also essential. In training for the 5K, I've learned that doing intervals---jogging faster for just one minute every 5 minutes, for example---really, really helps. So that's what I'm going to be doing all winter long. Just little bursts of speed are gonna keep us finely tuned!!
Woo hoo!
The bicycle riding going on here sounds awesome!!

Julia, so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear friend, friends are family and sometimes the ones your choose are even better

and Bonnie glad your cat is on the mend there again, a pet is also family,

I also love jig saw puzzles, I have not tackled one in several years, but think that would be a great thing to start, my house is so small, I have no where I can leave one up for any length of time, I did invest in a mat that rolls up with the puzzle pieces staying flat and also not messing up what you put together, I need to get it out and see if it works.

is has been a few years since I weighed this much, but I will work it off, I did a long walk yesterday and fixing to go out again, and I have vowed to stay away from bread, for at least a month, now this is very hard for me, I do love my bread, any kind, emoticon

Gee Bonnie, not sure about 5 things to give me that motivation, I think I got it when I weighed myself the other day, and maybe my doctor knew what he was talking about, so,

1. drink plenty of water
2 leave that candy alone,
3 no bread for 4 to 6 weeks
4 get back in the habit of walking daily
5 continue with at least 10 minute sparks videos daily and the gym 3 times a week

there are 5 things, and I know I can get back to 125 or less by the end of December, see, I am starting my new quarter a couple weeks early.
did I mention I have to quit lying to myself

Rode my bike outside for 20 minutes. Michele, I am sure you would ride circles around me. LOL I am a bit wobbly, but I did it!

Felt good to accomplish something I haven't been able to do for awhile. First time I rode, I was able to do 8 minutes. I think riding the exercise is helping me get ready to be on the road!

I am so very sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for God to strengthen you to work through the pain of losing someone so close and precious to you.

Are you still considering Saline? I could come and see you!

MICHELE

Glad your nap helped after your swim. I too love to do puzzles. I haven't done them for a long time as it has hurt my back too much for so many years to bend of the table. I have one I have had for about 8 or 9 years, that I may get out and try again.

Have a funny story about that puzzle. I had been working on it and it was out on a table. Max and Ellee came over. They were 2 years old or so. Of course as they came into the house, they noticed it. I explained that I was working on it and it was a big job, so please don't touch it. Talked about the subject matter etc.

I turned my back for a second, and looked back, Max just could not resist putting both hands on it and scrabbling the pieces all around on the table. Needless to say it has been in that box every since.

Boys, they just HAVE to do it! LOL

I am thinking about doing something outside today. Then sun is out, and I think it is going to be warm. If not, I will just go to the Y.

Have a good day and enjoy whatever you do

Looks like I missed alot while I was touring Dallas(might have to move there ) Not getting on the scale since I can tell by my clothes that it won't be pretty. Indulged in some fantastic brisket while in Dallas.
Came home to find that a dear friend had died. Tough to make it through her service---she is the kind of person that always knows when to show up when you need her most.
Going to the store to stock the house with good food.
Enjoy the weekend!

MERRYMARY I agree with Bonnie. It is just one day, one moment. I too, am in that "oh, I blew it" mentallity. state sometimes. It is important for all of us to take one moment, not even 1 DAY at a time!

BONNIE that you aren't gaining is a very good sign Now, time to perfect it just a pinch!

My swim was so hard this a.m., I think b/c I hadn't been able to go since early last week. I came home & after teaching, zonked out for my nap right away! I feel much better now.

Now, I am going to do something that brings me joy----working on my jigsaw puzzle, a picture of the Cathedral of Notre Dame! emoticon

MERRYMARY

I understand about the "forth quarter of the year" Maybe together, we can find a way to make it a bit easier.

One thing that I have learned over the years, and it does help me some, is that it is only one party, Christmas is only one day, and New Year's is only one day, etc.

In the past, my issue, has been, and sometimes still is, that once I have a day where I eat, I fall back into the "diet" mentality of "oh well, I blew it, I will begin again on Monday" or I will begin again in the New Year. A lot of lost opportunities in between.

I have to prime myself to consider how many events I have coming up, and what days I don't have events on. The days without events, are usually more. So, I do the best I can at the events, and then on the other days, I try to eat lots more veggies and fruits, and stay away from the fatty and sugary foods. Not always successful, but I do so much better than I used to.

One day at a time, helps as well. "I can go to this party, and eat veggies and fruit, there is generally some kind of choice there, and then eat proteins, and try to save little room for the sweets, and fats. I don't deprive myself, just work to monitor the serving size.

I also am glad that I have gotten so much more in tune with the exercise lately, and it is not hurting me, but making me stronger. That will serve me well as I will feel so much stronger if I am able to continue exercising regularly. I think the 10 minutes of exercise daily has helped me a great deal.

I managed to get through my birthday without binge eating, so that gives me some
confidence. I am not losing a lot, but I am not gaining either.

Don't be ashamed of yourself, that is the worst place to be, guilt causes more eating than anything else, at least in my experience. Do the best you can, and let's see if you can add some strategies to the one's I have listed that I am going to work on.

Sit down, and write me 5, 5 ways to help yourself to have a more positive outlook on food and exercise. Don't look at that stupid scale, you can do this, I have confidence in you as well, and in the rest of you all too.

FITMARY

Glad you got to the gym and feel so good about it. That just helps me so much.

MICHELE

Hope you enjoyed your swim. I have experiencing some sinus issues right now because of the changing weather. I have had trouble getting to the pool, because of my cat being ill, but I think for a few more days, I will keep my head out of the water.

Going to go to the Y tomorrow so I can get in some exercise that is different from my exercise bike.

My cat seems better tonight, so I feel better about that.

Talk to you all tomorrow

Maybe it would be a good idea for all of us to share some strategies that have worked for us in the past. Now would be a good time to get ready for the holidays, beginning with Halloween

Put on your thinking caps my friends

Glad you got a break in the heat at 90 degrees, Merry!

My good news for the day was to get myself to the gym as planned, running for 10 minutes at 5 mph and then walking for 10, and then to go to Pilates class. So relaxing!

I have had a great day so far, the temp only got up to 90 and it is supposed to stay around this or cooler until Monday, and then back to the triple digits, I guess it is the hurricane in Baja, anyway, they have it much worse than I do,
I went to exercise class this morning, normally we have zumba, but the stereo was messed up so we just worked out minus the music, not nearly as nice, but Monday hopefully it will be fixed.
I weighed myself this morning, and I am ashamed to admit it, but I have been steadily gaining weight since the end of May, so needless to say I need to lose 10 pounds where I did only need to lose 5, maybe, no walking or very little of it, or maybe all that candy I have been sneaking in my mouth, after I already document my food for the day emoticon

but whatever, the last quarter of 2014 is my only hope for a loss, and I can do it. but also lnowing the last quarter is when I always gain,
if the scales this morning doesn't motivate me, nothing is going to.

pst

I like the idea of writing down the good stuff. I guess my good stuff yesterday, was that even though my plan was changed, I still got my exercise in and ate well.

Today, had to take my cat, Sophia back to the vet for a shot to keep her from vomiting. He checked her abdomen and said she is ok, it will just take a bit of time.

I am having an issue with my sinuses, so it is probably a good idea that I don't get my head wet for a bit anyway. Again, grateful for my nice exercise bike that I bought a couple of years ago before my knees became so bad. did the right thing buying that bike when I had the money.

After my nephew in law gets home to take over with the girls, I will be picking up my friend Diana and we will go to dinner at Max and Erma's. That is our tradition for birthdays.

Hope this headache goes away.

Crazy few days so I had to go back and quickly read up on all your news. What struck me most was Dale's post about writing down everything we do RIGHT. Such good advice!
Yesterday I was under particular stress so what I did RIGHT was to take a quick walk during a very short break in the middle of the day. It helped! It was the RIGHT thing to do.
In the plan for today is to move some of the load of firewood we had delivered, to get some time on the treadmill, and to make it to evening Pilates. Right? RIGHT!!!
Best to all!
