Greetings to all!
I'm back from Zumba this morning. Unfortunately I jumped around a bit too much and I have a headache as a result, but I'm hoping it will pass soon. I love that class too much to give it up. I'll go tomorrow for some treadmill and weightlifting. The hospital we go to for everything is organizing a 5K race in Sept. and the scheduled day is my birthday so I realized that it is my fate to do that race. I've never done one, but it was on my list for this year so there's absolutely no excuse. Better ramp up my game a bit between now and then....Woo hoo!

MICHELE

Glad you are listening to your body and resting. Enjoy your day.

DALE

Glad to hear you sounding good. I love how well you are doing.

I am going to a "luau" at the Village Players theater this afternoon. It is a thank you for all of the volunteers who have worked throughout the season.

It begins at 2:00pm, so need to get going. Looking forward to seeing good friends. I am not stressing out about the food, so that means I will eat reasonably. Whenever I am stressed out about food, I eat a ton more. So, will go, have a good time, eat what I want within reason, and enjoy. My friend Diana is taking a big bowl of fruit. That is right up my alley!

Enjoy your weekend my friends.

Sat JUNE 21st: emoticon 144.5 (feeling dumpy in the middle)

Weekend with threats of a thunderstorm. So far so good.
It was great reading all your posts this morning.
I don't get any email reminder notices when a thread I'm on is active, yet my subscriptions are properly subscribed to. I don't know how to fix the omissions..

Bonnie,
Glad you and Michele rejoined us ..... We really keep the focus on our self care and you my dear are definitely back on track having dropped 8 lbs.

I will post my weekly step total starting tomorrow. In an effort to make up for low numbers I went around Wilde Lake 3 times this morning but that doesn't add up to 3 times the distance. The part to and from my front door is only walked once if I keep going around. To take separate walks during the course of a day will amount to more.

Michelle,
Your lifestyle is so impressive. I can't imagine being that active all the time! You deserve more relaxation. But then, I'm a big one for down time. Too much of the time!!

So many of you are really impressing and motivating me. emoticon

Must jump in the shower for this day's events. emoticon to each and every one of you.

Hi, Dale,

You posted some great advice here. I agree that the processed, packaged "foods" really retain the fluid and fat. Leave me craving more "junk" and sugar, too.

Raw vegies are definitely the way to go, especially, dark colored ones like red cabbage. I was reading on the Dr. OZ website that the darker the vegetables the better and add cruciferous vegies daily for a natural liver detox. Broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, kale have never been my favorites; but, I am learning to add them rather than ignore them. Just 1-2 servings per day is enough per Dr. Oz.

I am off to exercise. Short walk with Sadie J and Hubs.

Report back later.

DALE

I just saw your post on the Chat, and realized that I have not been getting notifications from this thread, so have been absent.

The pool is open, but still working on getting the chemicals right. Not pool weather right now, but hoping for the next couple of days to be better.

I have been babysitting for the last few weeks, so my exercise program has been doing things with the kids.

My knees are doing well. On Tues, I worked a lot around the house, kids went to the zoo with friends, so I was home. Was up and down the stairs a lot, and really accomplished quite a bit. Felt good.

Those are the things I have been doing.

Today, I am tired from the week, so I just ran a couple of errands and went for an adjustment from the chiropractor.

I have lost about 8 pounds in the last few weeks. Finally getting my portions and cravings under better control. Working very hard on my attitude more than anything. Going back and beginning again with the mental, emotional and spiritual lessons that I had left behind in the last few years. That is the way I lost the 70 pounds in the first place, and kept it off for several years until I was in so much pain, and had so many surgeries.

Thank you for asking, I am well

Not going to try to catch up on the posts, so wishing you all well.

Have a great weekend.

Go Lisa Go, 32 minutes of cardio is great, much better than doing nothing.

I agree with you ladies, weights are super important for many reasons. Dale, resistance bands are an excellent form of strength training, don't discount them. I have some different free weight routines so that I can mix it up every 4-6 weeks. This keeps my body guessing and so that I don't get bored.

Don't you love feeling your triceps FitMary?? It will make us appreciate tank top season as Lisa mentioned.

You all sound good and Dale it sounds like you are getting some of your energy back! emoticon
Bye for now,

Thanks FITMARY, I did turn things around this morning. I got on the treadmill first thing this morning and ran/walked 2 miles in 32 minutes. It sure felt good to get moving.

DALE: Nope, I'm not a South Paw. It's my left hand that was injured so at least I can still type and do most things. Hand therapy is a very long and slow process, I don't know if I'll ever have full use of my hand but at least I still HAVE my hand!

I need to start using weight too, but I tend to get bored after a couple of minutes. Tank top season is upon us and I need to tone up my arms!

DALE Yes, I started lifiting light weights when Christopher, my now25 year old son, was born. My sister in Chicago had sent me "Margaret Richard" video tapes, & I have been using them ever since. However, recently, the video machine is "eating" my tapes, so now I do the wt lifting to movies, the news etc. I lift 3x/wk. I like the muscle shape of my arms esp, & it helps keep my bones strong.

Legs are a bit wobbly today from too much bike riding yesterday; I went to tone chime / piano yesterday, a mostly uphill 40 minute bike ride. I rode 25 min. back to the pool too, to retrieve my forgotten goggles. I think today I will just rest!

Thu JUNE 19th: 144

I didn't go to the mall to walk yesterday but this morning at 11a.m. in spite of the humidity I did walk slowly around Wilde Lake, only to come back drenched in sweat anyway. I'm okay with that accomplishment.

LISA,
Are you left handed like me? That's the side I'm rehabilitating from the stroke. MARYANN was in a car accident and also badly injured her hand. I'm sorry it's still swollen but are you able to use it for the most part? MARYANN has had lots of rehab and it's a slow recovery process.

MICHELE,
I never knew you lifted weights (that I remember). I have requested a 60 day program at the gym to increase my strength and endurance. I eagerly wait to hear back from them that I'm accepted.

TB,
Once I do start that program in the gym you can talk to me about the machines that are most effective for you and what you manage with them. Meanwhile, at home I'm just supposed to use a resistance band for an exercise regimen that, like my living room hand weights, sit, inactive....

About slacking off. That was U P until N O W... Exercise, certainly, but increase the raw veggies and decrease all store bought packaged food. You'll drop. I was gaining as well and it alarmed me. So I looked at how much of the addictive super charged processed stuff I was craving and not caring. A steamed head of cauliflower with seasoning certainly helped me to step down from those cravings.
emoticon
I love you all,
Dale

Up early to do weights because I have a late work meeting. I hope to also get a ride in after work.

Michele, your early morning workouts reminds me that there are various times throughout the day to get in some exercise. I have even started doing a quick walk at lunch more to relieve stress than to burn calories.

FitMary, you are approaching your day in a proactive way.....getting in the exercise even if you can't make it to Zumba class. emoticon

Have a good day!

Lisa, track everything, & get that exercise in, even if it means taking a few stairs instead of escalators, parking at the end of a lot.... there are lots of little things you can do today. Don't need to jog 5 miles!

Dale, enjoy your day for yourself. Relaxing is a form of exercise---healthy for the body.As for FIL, he goes to the dr. every other month for his heart. He doesn't walk well, so everything takes soooooooooooooooooooo much time & patience!!!

TB & FIt Mary, keep on going!

Hmmmm, less than 2 weeks left of this challenge and instead of losing I've actually gained 3.8 lbs. Gosh, that's not good! Will Summer be my time to shine? (yes, pun intended) I've been tracking my food and drinking my water but I've really slacked off on exercising, so THAT's where I need to focus! Like the saying goes "use it or lose it", so I'm gonna use it!

DALE: I think it was my hand that you're thinking about. I fractured 3 of my fingers when I fell last February. I'm going to physical therapy but I still don't have full use of my left hand yet. Four months after my fall and my fingers are still really swollen, but getting better every day.

Tue JUNE 17th: 144.5

A whole day just to myself!!!!! This is luxury. Tomorrow I drop in at my Internist for a form that requests I get 60 days of gym help as a continuation of my therapy. I hope that program is still in place. It's $1/day I was told.

Meanwhile, our humidity and heat are up. The mall walk will possibly do the trick, especially if I just drive for the first time by myself. I'll let you know if I was up to it yet. But I can report that I managed a 10,000 step daily average over last week, so that's satisfying.

MICHELE,
How often does your FIL go to doctor appointments? Is he doing fairly well these days?
I considered a water class for me but I think I'd have to buy a different sized suit and that seems unwarranted since I would only use it for the class... We'll see.

BONNIE,
With your pool open for the season, I haven't gotten a sense of what your exercise program is this far out from the surgeries. Please update me/us on how you are doing.

MERRY,
Where are you? Is everything okay?

MARYANN,
How's your hand healing? I know my coming to the team has been irregular, and I only made it to that huge chat thread one time. I think I'm working my way back to being in touch with more people and will find the worst of this stroke fading behind me.

FITMARY,
Your inspiration and understanding has been well received. My confidence in myself is peeking back out again. I still have to be protective since my emotional damage might always be sensitive. We'll see how much heals and how well I rebuild my coping.

emoticon I ate very modestly and healthy yesterday, then gorged on ice cream and chocolates late at night. One extreme to the other. I'm telling on myself to stay real.

I love you all,
Dale

Thanks for the encouragement ladies. I have not seen 155 on the scale for quite a few years!
I might have to try swimming Michele, one of my knees is acting up. I can ride but doing my long walk with hills may be on hold for a bit.
Lisa, that dinner sounds great, you should cook for the rest of us! We would all appreciate an appetizing yet healthy meal.
FitMary-keep on doing your program, I am sure that you are seeing/feeling some changes even if the scale is not moving! You are living healthier and that what really counts not the number anyways!
Take care everybody,

Thanks for reminding me what mine was.

Did walk enough though yesterday! That makes me happy.

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

I made the best Father's Day dinner last night using SparkRecipe's of course. Spinach salad with strawberries and a honey mustard vinegarette and baked salmon with strawberry salsa over quinoa and fresh string beans on the side. My husband and in-law's were so impressed, I felt like a real chef!

This morning we're off to Costco to stock up on fruits, veggies and paper products. I'll try to get in a good walk later on this afternoon. If not I'll at least jump on the treadmill for a bit. It's a cool and breezy day and I really don't like walking in the wind.

I have a good feeling about this week. I've been looking for a job for several months and I feel like good things are about to happen. I can feel it!!!!

Enjoy your time with Jasmine. Please try not to let your son upset you. Hoping that he brings it back to you soon. God Bless my dear.

The scale is not really doing much for me these days, but it has stopped going up and it is a couple of pounds down on some days.

Doing much better with my eating and portion control. Enjoying the lovely weather we are having.

Sat JUNE 14th: 144.5

(saw 142.5 yesterday because I ate lightly and it was so good to see!!! I can do it when I relax better.)

Can't write. Jasmine is here. Thanks for all the encouragement. My son still has my car and was hysterical on the phone in emotional justification to keep it from me for my own good. Homey don't play that. I expect it back here tonight without him having to be with me......

I'd make an icon face here but they don't have a cross eyed image.
Busy weekend (for me). Walking day finally so that's a good thing;
Hugs, y'all

MARYANN - I don't remember my icon symbol I picked for this team. Your talking about us having one makes me wonder what I forgot - which one was mine before the stroke?

I'm exercising faithfully and tracking my meals, staying inside my limits (for the most part;), but that scale isn't moving. Oh, well. The scale may not move, but I will continue to do so!
Off to Zumba this morning!
Best to all!

TB, I walked in the rain on Thursday; I don'T know how FAR I walked, but I did walk for 45 min. We must have given our rain to you---we had 8 straight days of it! Today, Saturday, despite the high humidity--hovering around 55% it is very sunny. Pleasant for a change!

Hope that everyone is okay heading into the weekend. It is cold and rainy here and I don't feel much like exercising but I know that I should do something.

Thanks for the info. FitMary. We will see how things add up at the end of this month.

Did you walk in the rain Michele? How far did you walk?

Have a good weekend ladies!

TB---In the past, we've all posted our weight at the beginning of the new quarter and tweaked and fine tuned our goals for the next three months. We all chose an emoticon and posted it at the top of the message with our weight to make record keeping easier.

I was doing so well with my eating. Unfortunately I ran directly into an encounter with chocolate-chip cookies last night. Sigh. I should not have done that!

In any case, I've picked myself up, dusted myself off, and I'm starting again today. The end of the month is still quite a ways away...
All the best!!

Dale- you have been facing major health challenges lately, don't be too hard on yourself. You continue to have a healthy approach to life which is so important.

Question for the group: I haven't done one of these 3 month challenges before and am wondering what happens in July to this thread?

P.S. I am still fine tuning but I don't think that the weight is dropping off very quickly!

Bye for now,
TB

Good to know all of the info. Still sending prayers, so I will add special prayers for peace and serenity. We all need that! God Bless

Tired tonight. Had the girls today, and will have all 4 tomorrow, and will be getting up early, so this will be kind of short.

Nancy and Ron came over and power washed all of my deck furniture, we all helped to put up the screen house on the deck, and they brought all of the furniture and put the outdoor rugs down on the deck. They did all of the hard work, and I am exhausted. LOL

Thinking of you all

DALE: Thank you for the updates, it's so nice to hear how well you are doing. Stay positive and keep those stressers and stressors at bay.

TB: When it's 104 degrees outside I don't exercise at all. I stay indoors and stay hydrated. Luckily the weather has cooled way down. Right now at 3:30 in the afternoon it's only 72 degrees. Kinda chilly actually.

I got on the treadmill this morning and did a pretty good workout. I'm planning on signing up for a 5k in November and thought I'd better start training for it. My hope is to be able to run the entire thing but we'll see. These old bones can only do so much.

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Dale, it sounds like you are in good hands (those of the medical team AND your own capable hands). Stress is difficult to avoid in the modern world, but if we try, we can minimize its impact. I had to learn that the hard way, but I'm living proof that it can be done. And your life depends on it, so you will do it. The motivation could not be clearer!

wed JUNE 11th: 144.5

emoticon middle of the night up 3am, now 5 but do plan on more sleep later

Oliver got sick before I got home last night and again before my bedtime... I decided I will take him out in an hour which should be dawning, if there is no rain.

Social activities aside, the priority items are yesterday's appointments. Son Nate took me into the city for the spinal tap and more vials of blood. He was good company for that excursion, which includes lying flat for over an hour afterward. Staff was great. Then in the afternoon, the rheumatologist doctor had me sit by the computer with him and took time to reassure me, having been well informed by my other doc that I was very shaken up the last time I was with him and even wanted my neurologist in this rheumatology appointment with me!

So here's the deal to date. They can't tie the ten year apart strokes together with an explanation so the tests are showing I am one of 210 people in this country who have to be diagnosed with atypical strokes, and they will be using some of the spinal fluid for researching further. I can wean myself off the steroid in weeks and my numbness/heaviness/tingling ought to subside in another 4-6 months.

I have earned the right to have my confidence back about my recovery potential IF I continue to be vigilant about slowing up enough to read my body information and keep stress's away from me! (stressers and stressors both spell check wrong)
My definitions:
Stressors are people with high drama and stresses, aka stressers, are situations I cannot manage. I'm not saying these are correct but the language is changing so... this is how I see it.

My OT therapy clearance to drive release will be ready (my last session tomorrow) to take to my internist next week. I told THEM I only want to stay in the local area (20 minute range) and work further on self reporting anxiety or fatigue to guide and limit my activity. They agree to my request because I am a Self Aware patient. The doctors all agree that I must and can continue to be very much aware of what I need to be responsible for to handle things differently and enjoy life again.

Easy does it is the motto. Keep up the walks, add yoga, stay hydrated and nutritionally fit, do summer personal trainer strength and endurance. And even to subscribe to a mind games app online that strengthens my brain functioning.

It's now 5:30 so I'll dress to get Oliver out to pee. Little man drank tons of water when I opened my bedroom door at 3:00.

emoticon I love you all,
Dale

Had a good day with the girls today. Unless we do some walking or something during the day when I am with them, I don't generally get much exercise on the days I have them. Today, they were in a quiet mood, so didn't get much.

That's ok, I was up and around more than I would have been if I hadn't done anything at home!

Two more days this week, and only two days next week. Christy said that the girls are going away for a day trip on Tuesday, so I will be off.

After that, Angie will be off until the first or second week in August, so she will have the kids most of that time. I will have them for the two weeks before they go back to school when Ang has to go back, then back to the two afternoons a week. I think Ang and Ronnie and the kids will take a vacation, so will probably have the girls for those days.

I am tired, so I am ranbling. Done.
