Hi ladies,

Dale- good luck with the spinal puncture tomorrow, doesn't sound too pleasant. Great news about the all clear for driving, that will increase your independence.

Bonnie-enjoy the kid sitting, they will keep you busy!

Michele- so when does the rainy season end? I live in Calgary, Alberta and we had the risk of frost the last few nights, makes gardening unpredictable.

FitMary- don't worry about the scale....just keep at it! You motivated me to add a new exercise today and yesterday I did weights that I have been avoiding. I am not going to weigh in for a few weeks, since I get frustrated when the scale doesn't move. I am just concentrating on eating and exercising, we'll see what transpires!

Lisa- just curious, how do you exercise when it is 104 out? I am not sure what I would do.

Take care everybody and keep your short term goals in mind.

mon JUNE 9th: 145

muggy day, little sleep again but i walked out there at 7a.m. anyway, and wanted to walk the mall later but didn't get the opportunity - friend took me to lunch there so I thought it would work out for me.

tomorrow: morning spinal puncture, afternoon doctors, so i better be rested and relaxed for all that. My son is driving out from the city to take me in to the city so that my mother doesn't have to... we will see how relaxed i will be

good news: the therapists will give me a clearance letter for local driving in my last session on thursday and the internist can sign off on it next week. that will help me having my car back; i am trying to tear it away from my son

BONNIE and FITMARY - thanks (and mary, your gift made me cry and i needed that
connection. i may be overtired but my confidence is coming into view again... in an easy does it way.

MICHELE

I will take your rain, send it on over.

Fitmary

Maybe if you changed up something that you are eating to something different, and changed up an exercise, the scale would break lose. I have been told that if we do the same things and eat the same things, I bodies get used to it. I have found in the past that making some changes to something very different will help.

Not sure if that will help or not, 'cause I am not sure that you are doing the same things, but I know that I can get myself into a "routine", because it is an easier way of staying on track.

Just thought I would mention something that has happened to me.

Otherwise, don't despair, if will come off. This, unfortunately, is not an exact science.

Good luck

Bonnie

I cannot get the scale needle to move downward. Grrr! Not for lack of trying. I've been watching my calories and going to the gym at least 5 days a week... Well, I'm still hopeful that I can make the needed progress before the end of June. TB will be disappointed if I don't!

LISA and MICHELE

This weather really is still kind of crazy. We are having beautiful weather, but now we are not getting the rain that we need. My nephew just told me that we are to have rain on Weds. Hope so, 'cause pretty soon the farmer's are going to be hurting.

In the spring, we had just way too much rain. Geeez

My passport just arrived! So, now whenever we are going on the cruise, I am ready!

Tired today, spending the day getting the pool water cleaned up. It is no longer green, but now cloudy. Have been running the filter for about 24 hours now. Thinking that by this time tomorrow, I may be able to see the bottom, and then I will put the vacuum in and clean the bottom. Will set up the regular chemicals, and probably be able to use the pool by this weekend, if the nights get warmer. On my way, now if the weather just cooperates.

Babysitting for the kids the next 3 days, so my free time is done for this week. We will have a good time, we always do.

Thank you MICHELE! I will take your rain any day, we desperately need it in California! We're looking at a much cooler day tomorrow with a high of 84 degrees. That means veggie wraps for lunch and salads for dinner. No cooking for me in this heat!!!

Help me, I'm melting!!! It was 104 degrees here yesterday and today and we're in for the same again tomorrow. Next weekend we'll get back down into the 90's and I welcome the "cool down". I've been drinking so much water it's a wonder I don't float away! I hope everyone is finding a nice shady spot to stay cool!

FitMary- great that you did use the "new" to you machines. I have been doing lots of gardening and missing my weight training so I plan to do a strength workout today.
Michele-we need some of your liquid sunshine here but we have had a few nights of frost which you may not want.
Bonnie-how lovely to have a good walk and at a festival, nice to change up the scenery.
Dale-you should be commended on how well you are doing, just take one day at a time.

Have a good Sunday and make plans for exercising and clean eating this next week!

DALE

It doesn't matter what others see on the outside. You know what is going on inside, so please don't push yourself too much for other people. Listen to your own body.

I think you are doing amazing things. I understand, if anyone does, how difficult it is to be patient at this time. But I promise it will get better.

Sending prayers and blessings your way. It is wonderful that with all you have been through, you have kept the weight in the 144-147 range. Give yourself credit for that and for getting out walking even once a day

Looking at it from my perspective, I really do think you are doing every thing you can. God Bless my friend

MICHELE

We are getting rain today, we do need it, so I am hoping you are getting sunshine.

FITMARY

Congrats on doing the "big boy" stuff, and feeling it.

Have a lovely Sunday

Can't always get both walks in each day but I do try. Posting has totally slacked off unknowingly. I'm trying to do a lot ...for me anyway, at this time and it wipes me out.

Increased veggies and fruits back to bring down the weight gaining but I'm not out of the woods.
Today 144 and yet to get out of this new 144-147 range. I am also struggling to maintain any enthusiasm.

I know I am doing well under the circumstances. It's just hard to stay happy here, even though I do struggle to keep my gratitude in the forefront.

Heading to DC cousin dinner party bash for one of the kids just college graduated. I feel wiped out and we haven't gone yet. Crowds will be rough.

I hope to report better by the end of the summer. I'm impatient because I look normal and no one can tell that things are not right inside.

I love you all,
Dale

Keep Fine Tuning this weekend everybody!

FitMary-did you try one of the "new" pieces of equipment at the gym? Don't worry about the scale if you keep exercising and tracking your food the scale should eventually respond downward!!
Michele-way to go walking in the pouring rain, I exercise in a light shower and snow but not usually pouring rain...unless I get caught in it. Picking Hydrangeas sounds absolutely lovely where I live in Canada they are considered a fine specimen and you would never pick them.

TB thanks for the interest. I am doing fine with the Nutrisystem. I am making better choices most of the time, and that is an improvement. Down a couple of pounds.

Took a walk with the kids and the dog today. I walked about 20 minutes. I was pretty tired from yesterday Might get on the stationary bike for 10 minutes tonight just so I have 30 minutes today. Will see how I feel.

You all sound good, and it is great to hear that.

Wow, everyone seems to be doing really well with their fine tuning. I get on the scale tomorrow so I'll see if I've made any progress.

I'm scanning SparkRecipe's for some simple and delicious recipes to make up at the family house this weekend. It's supposed to be 106 degrees and I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen cooking. My sister and 2 of her sons (ages 22 and 31) are coming up so I'll have a few hungry mouths to feed. I'm looking at a tuna pasta salad for lunch, then we'll probably bbq chicken and have a green salad for dinner. Maybe grill some asparagus too.

Today I'm drinking all my water, I've gone for a nice long (and hilly) walk, and I'm snacking on nothing but fresh veggies.

Well I haven't checked in for awhile. Going away was great and then I came back to company so I need to recommit before I lose my momentum. When one only loses 1-2 pounds each month it is easy to start going backwards!
The Chi Myo quote is great, thanks Michele. We used to say something similar in yoga, be present...yesterday is gone and tomorrow hasn't happened yet.
FitMary- trying out a new exercise or new piece of gym equipment is a great idea. We say in the exercise world that you really need to mix up your exercise because your body really habituates to doing the same routine all of the time! I should follow that advice. I noticed that you are aiming to lose 3 pounds this month, that is my goal too. It is a big jump for me but that is my short term goal.
Bonnie- how is the Nutrisystem going?
BFERREL-congratulations on your loss of 37 pounds that is incredible to me.

Fine Tuning for June:
8 glasses of water daily
treats, less than 150 calories in a day
min. 4 cardio sessions per week
min. 2 weight training sessions per week
add one "new" exercise session
lose 3 pounds by July 5

I've been going to the same gym for a few years now and I'm still using the same weight-lifting machines I've always used, with small adjustments upward. But today I asked the person in charge to show me one of the more complicated machines. I wanted the challenge and even posted that as one of my goals here on Spark People. Well, she obliged and actually showed me two new machines, helping me with the settings and giving me tips. I'm so excited, first because I met my goal and second because I think that will help tweak my fitness level. How's that for fine tuning? Woo hoo!

Thanks for the encouragement. Go girl! I have done it before and it has helped. I am feeling pretty good.

Had all 4 kids today all day. Had a good day, went to the park got in a little walk and was up and about most of the day. Good day

Tomorrow and Thurs will just have Ellee and Gracee. Max and Bri will probably be over to visit though.

Tired tonight.
MICHELE

Hope you are enjoying the days BEFORE the rain.

LISA

Great job. That Michele can be very inspiring!

Tired. Have a good rest of the day all

MICHELE: Thank you for posting "Chi Myo", it has really inspired me. I thought about it all day yesterday and today and kept reminding myself to do my best in this moment.

My fine tuning is going well, I'm drinking my water, getting in my steps AND logging what I eat. That's not always so easy, but it's what I need to stay on track. I also went for a 2.25 mile walk today. It's a cold and windy day here today, but I got out there and did it!

The problem that I generally have, is that I can't go to sleep until very late, and then it has been too long since I have had food, and I get hungry. Normal sleep is usually between 1:00am and 3:30am.

Last night, I think because I had not had that many calories during the day, I was just tired, and got to sleep at about 10:30pm or 11:00pm.

Hoping to be able to begin to have a better routine this week while I am eating so many fewer calories. Then, it should not be as difficult for me if I am not up so very late.

Fingers crossed, effort being expended to build better habits.

MICHELE

Hope you don't melt in all of the liquid sunshine!

Good move on the evening eating. I sleep better too when I eat my last food by 5p.m. and even then I make it really light. emoticon

MICHELE

I have to continue to remind myself that the goal is "Progress, not Perfection". Too many years of feeling inadequate.

Feeling good today.

I slept really well last night. I am pretty sure that not eating at night was a very good thing for me. I am sure that is why I slept so well.

Working to establish new habits, and the most important one is NOT eating in the evening. I know that it affects my Acid Reflux, and that affects my sleep.

One day at a time I CAN do this.

Bonnie, & to all of the rest of you----

There is no such thing as "perfection" in this imperfect world! We have to stop doing this to ourselves! Remember "chimyo" --- do the best you can do at this moment!

swim was awful---most kids in Yokohama had the day off today b/c it was Yokohama memorial day & I think 1/2 of the population was in the pool! Felt like I was swimming in the ocean--lots of waves & kids kept bumping into me despite the roping off! I came out more stressed than when I went in!!!! emoticon

Thanks Michele. I have done it before, and it has been a help. What I am going to be watching for from day 1, is to make sure that I don't fall into the diet trap, and the perfection trap.

I am using this as an aid to help me to begin to make better choices. I am concentrating on feeling good about myself, keeping the negative messages at bay, and encouraging positive self talk. That is the most important for me.

I think that if I can lose a bit of weight kind of quickly, it will be of benefit to my knees.

It is a balance that I must keep inside my head, so that I don't get into the "all or nothing" mindset that messes me up.

If I want or need something else to eat, as I did today, I will eat it.

The concentration is to be on feeling good.

These are things I need to be working on at all times anyway!

Bonnie, I have heard only positve things about the Nurtisystem. The big reason I don'T use it is b/c it doesn't ship to Japan.

Have a good day, all! emoticon

Thank you girls for the lovely thoughts and ideas you have written. Makes me feel very good.

MICHELE

Love what your Tai Chi instructor said, food for thought.

I began the "Fast Five" from Nutrisystem today, so we have made our commitment on the same day.

I went for a walk with my friend Joyce, and became a bit lightheaded, so we stopped and ate. I had a small grilled chicken breast, a nice salad, and cottage cheese, no salad dressing. It gave me energy and I felt better. I am doing this so that I can get back to making better choices. I will do the program as close as I can, but will not be "On a diet", with that diet mentality no matter what.

Hoping that this will get me motivated, and feeling better, but am refusing to think of it as a diet.

That would be my worst downfall.

I will be listening to my body, and doing what is best for me.

MARY

The challenge is to keep the attitude in the right place, I agree.

VELAINE

Congrats on being so close to goal. You are doing great. I think your idea is a good one.

I like having both threads. I need as much support as I can get. LOL

Have a lovely week my friends. God Bless
