Fitmary-thanks for posting that you have had some long plateaus.I am going to bust through my 2 month plateau this month darn it! Been awol for a while. super pumped that my daughter got into the grad school she wanted-yippee.
Fine tuning for me
continue with exercise plan of weights and cardio
work on the water!
Deep breathing in the late afternoon.
Spring is here so that should help keep me on target.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Plateaus are awful. I was on one for months and it can seem like it's all for naught! But if you keep doing what you know what works, tweaking here and there, you can get over the hump. And THAT'S a fine tuning challenge!
I am proud of my own efforts in exercise. I got to the gym yesterday and---guess what?--- all the t.v.s were off because of a problem with the cable! And I count on the t.v.s to get me through the utter boredom of the treadmill. But I was not going to give up so I decided to run faster to make it seem tolerable. And it worked! Hooray! A good workout and a good lesson.
Stay strong!!!

I went for a long walk/hike up in the foothills today, about 5 hours, and really tired, but in a good way, I walked 33 flights of stairs, and only walked a few with actual steps, weird, not sure how my fitbit counts them, but oh well,

a good day, we had a big Sunday Country breakfast, only yogurt when I got home, and something light this evening, but first my walk, not strenuous I just need to get out and relax,

I drank my water,
a 11 minute spark video
walked my 10,000 steps,
no candy
still working on my fruits and vegetables, but an apple later for sure, and maybe a salad

This is great encouragement! emoticon Thanks everyone!

I wondered though if there is a "fine tuning challenge" list somewhere, or do we really just pick 5 or 6 things from the air? I weigh myself every morning, and thanks to my new accurate scale, it shows ounces lost daily. I can't believe it and I'm so excited! I need to get to and break my 130 plateau though. That's been a stronghold for me. Please pray for me on that!

Also it's great to be made aware that I'm an encouragement to some! Nothing like knowing you're encouraging someone to feel encouraged yourself! emoticon

Thanks to all and Good Luck to all of us!

I am very new to Spark and think that this thread is awesome! I am interested in health, fitness and if it comes with weight loss great. It looks like you are all taking your fine tuning challenges seriously.
Have a great week and welcome Elizabeth!

Sounds like you are on your way, Elizabeth! Woo hoo!
And you have reminded me how important the weights are too. That's hard for me to remember because it is not as much fun for me as the Zumba, aerobics, and Pilates classes are. But thanks to you, I'm going to get myself to the gym today just for strength training!

Fitmary, I love zumba also, just can not stand still, Thursday wearing my fitbit on my waist, I got over 10,000 steps, more than normal for 60 minutes,
you know I had forgot about the emoticon, but now you jogged my memory,

Elizabeth, we just have to weigh in whenever, at least once a month or week, post it, choose 5 or 6 daily or weekly fine tuning challenges,

mine is 10,000 steps a day
track my nutrition
at least 1 10 minute spark video or the gym
eat at least 6 fruits and vegies daily
and I gave up candy for lent, and this is the hardest one

and lose 4 pounds by the end of May

Thanks for the info! emoticon There's my emoticon. Step 1. I'm already doing the 8 glasses of water a day, and cardio every day, too (elliptical). I have to start implementing the strength training, which I hope isn't too big of a problem time wise for me (i just upped the anty to 40 minutes of cardio a day.) I am eating within my 1200-1300 calorie range already too. So I guess I'm in? This is great. I hope to lose 2 lbs a week, even though many tell me that might not be good. I did it once before a few years back, though, so time will tell. Thanks everyone! Glad to be in!

Hello, all! I made it to Zumba this morning and, as usual, I thought I would just stand in the back and take it easy, but once the class started and the music got going, I found some energy and enjoyed it thoroughly.
emoticon emoticon
Elizabeth, our usual team booster is away right now, but I think I remember that to join, each of us was supposed to choose an emoticon and use it for the monthly post of our weight. That's a little motivation mixed with a way for Passionate Tiger to keep track of our progress. Then we choose individual challenges and post as we like. It's an encouraging group! MerryMary or others may remember additional steps. All the best!

Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I'd like to know how to join The 50+ TEAM 2014 LOSE SOME challenge. I've been on SP for a few years but am bound and determined now at age 51 to get my weight back down to under 120. I have about 24 or so lbs to go. I'm 5'2" and petite in frame otherwise.

well Lisa, I did succeed in drinking 3 bottles of that cranberry cocktail, 15 ounce size, and sent the other 9 bottles home with my son, my daughter in law likes it. emoticon
a very busy and productive day today, I too drank water like I was on the desert, but I think I was sweating out lots of it too, I worked outside and then inside for most of the day, just got back from a 30 minute walk and did a 10 minute core video this morning,
so all in all I am having a good day

have a great weekend, everyone

Good Morning and happy Friday to everyone!!!!!

I did my weigh in this morning and just as I'd suspected, I gained. Not bad though, only 0.2lbs so I need to get rid of that plus some extra to get back on track. Doing lots and lots of housework today to get ready to go away for the weekend.

Proud of myself because I wanted to quit almost every single minute I was on the treadmill, but I didn't! Woo hoo! I stayed on and did 35 minutes and I'm happy with that. It's not going to win me any awards, but it is fine tuning!!!

We had another hot one today, but I did get in a good walk earlier. I had an appointment for a haircut so I walked there and back....2.22 miles round trip. I've been eating lots of veggies and drinking lots of water, still feeling really puffy though. I'm not eating extra sodium so I don't know what it is, I guess my body just wants to hang on to all the water I'm drinking. Tomorrow is my big weigh in day and I'm kind of scared of what the scale is going to read. Oh well, whatever it is I'll be able to deal with it.

MERRYMARY: I know what you mean about the cranberry juice. I've never been a fan. But if your doctor says to drink it, you'd better drink it. Glad you got your mojo back! I sort of go in peaks and valleys. Some days (or weeks) I'm not motivated to do anything and other days I feel like I can conquer the world!!!

Tomorrow we head back up to the family house!

first day in ages that I really feel great, so hope it lasts for awhile, I went to my zumba class this morning, and that is enough to make anyone feel good, just shaking and laughing and having a time, trying to dance. I really enjoy it.
I also did a 14 minute sparks cardio dance video, it was a lot of fun, and I will go out for at least a 30 minute walk, waiting for it to cool off.
I did have a couple of cookies today with my coffee, but put it down in my nutrition, and it isn't like it is candy???? and I think of it as off limits, my water is over the top already,
and today my stamina was back where it belongs, so I think I am over what ever my ptoblem was

all is good

So the week is going well despite "busyness" at work. I am on track for cardio. and weight training sessions, with some additional reps. The best part is that I have kept treats to under 150 calories and I am not having one daily! emoticon

Now if the scale would move in a certain direction I would be super happy!

Merry Mary: Water down the cranberry juice when you drink it. It's an Ayurvedic technique for Kapha (heavy) individuals, but it'll cut the taste a little. Try it and let us know if it works for you. Drink the same amount; just add water. And maybe saturate it with orange slices to cut the sourness and see if that helps. Good luck!

I'm just more active all the way around. After a 30 minute bike ride with my husband, I had enough energy to take my german shepherd for the daily walk I have promised her and myself on my goal sheet. That, to me, is a fine tuning challenge. Making the commitment and keeping it.

SunnyBeachGirl, you made my day! I'm in the top 150!!! Woo hoo! That will spur me on today when I find myself making excuses as to why I should be satisfied with less time on the treadmill or a slower time....
I've been careful since the beginning of this quarter to avoid the elevator. Since I have at least three chances every day to walk from the basement to the 5th floor, I've been taking that opportunity. And there's a back staircase that is usually empty so I can challenge myself just a bit and try to go up "very quickly." How's that for a small, fine-tuning move?
emoticon
We seem to be getting a decent start to the spring so HOORAY for that! This quarter is gonna be a good one!

I went to aerobics class today, and we worked on our legs wow, really worked on them, and balance, I am staying good on all my fine tuning, lots of water, and still no candy, about 10 days left I think. emoticon

We're having a heat wave too. In the 90's yesterday, today and 80's tomorrow. I've been drinking lots of water and feel very puffy. I was scared to get on the scale today so I'll wait until Friday which is my regular weigh in day.

Did 2 hrs tennis, gd on the porch w/her friend , they are playing barbies, so cute. Actually their barbies are being loud, naughty and bossy. They are 7. interesting to listen too!

today 157.4 again, hoping for a good w/i on Sat. Well time to go my friend just came over to sit w/me awhile

So far so good with my fine tuning. The hardest thing is getting my 8 hours of sleep (darn hot flashes), but I'm drinking my water and getting in my steps and exercise!

Yesterday was a hot one at 77 degrees and today is supposed to reach 81, so I slathered myself in #50 sunscreen before getting dressed this morning. I can't believe there was a time when I used to use #4 sunscreen (Ban de Soleil for the San Tropez tan) but only after baking in the sun first. Ah, to be young and stupid!!!

today was my first day back to tennis, it just happened to be a heat wave today. 80 degrees and sunny. I played 1/2 the time to get my body used to it again. I have been exercise less the last 2 wks. sick! grrr. It felt good to see all my tennis friends again.

On track and happy to be feeling good again!

well I weighed in this morning, no change, but 1 week isn't too long, so back to monthly reporting, I went to aerobics class this morning, did a spark video and walked 30 minutes this evening after it cooled off, in the 90's today,
Thanks Sunny, wow, I wonder if this means I am very motivated or just have a lot of time on my hands, I have been trying to cut back, but it is hard to do,
I have my fine tuning, for the day,

Good morning
Just wanted to make sure you all saw the post about PASSIONATETIGER Dale. She is going to be out for a little while so there is no leader of this challenge. I check in with all of you but it seems to work out best if someone commits to checking in most everyday.

Next I as a leader I send out Team Goodies and I was looking at the TEAM stats for the people on this thread. You are all amazing people but a few are VERY active. For the entire 50+ Team several of you have a high ranking for Total Points accumulated by Team members since starting Spark People

MERRYMARY42 number 5
ECONLADY number 39
KATHY1204 number 67
PASSIONATETIGER number 101
FITMARY number 148

Congratulations for a great commitment. Check out the Team Stats listed on the right hand side for the full list.

I am still trying and generally succeeding with my fine tuning, water is no problem nor is my fruits and vegetables, (mainly vegetables) and as I said before, I gave up candy, for lent, not this does not include cakes, cookies, such as that, but I do not think I have had any, what really excites me is chewy candy, I really like it.
I have been eating quite a bit of dried fruit, mango, dates, such as that,

I will weigh in in the morning, and see if there is a change downward. for sure the end of April.

My good news: I did force myself to the gym and did weightlifting today!!!

spent most of the day in the car with my DH, but on Saturdays, while he is seeing a customer, I go for a walk with lots of steps, so that is good, I also did a spark video and went for my walk this evening, as well as planted 3 patty pan and 3 crookneck squash, still have a couple of cucumbers to put somewhere, and a couple of tomatoes, I will finish those tomorrow.

been eating light, both of us, just not real hungry, I have got all of my water done, as well as 15 ounces of cranberry juice, I hate it, but the doctor said to drink it. I have always heard it was great for kidney and bladder infections, but never dreamed the doctor would tell me to drink it, way too sweet and sour at the same time emoticon

My goal for April, May and June: lose 2 pounds per month

*This will be a big challenge since the scale doesn't seem to be moving.*

Plan: complete 4 cardio sessions per week
complete 2 strength sessions per week
8 glasses of water per day
Reminder: Keep treats to 150 calories. A treat isn't a treat, if you have one everyday!

My fine tuning goal for April, May, June is to lose 2 pds a month = 6 pds. I will do my first weigh in tomm. The way I will do this is do my dailys!

My dailys:
1. Healthy bkfst
2. vitamins
3. spark (track ex, nut, and post on teams)
4. exercise 30+ min
5. Only F&V's after 8pm
6. No deep fried snacks
7. 50 crunches
8. 1+ Fruit and vegi a day
9. write a blog or post on a blog (reach out)
10. Stay w/i cals 1000-2000. Goal of 1500 or less.

Believe it or not the hardest one for me to do is the crunches, it's not until I am looking over my dailys at the end of the day that I remember to do them. Now! Hitting the floor!

Thanks for the heads up

my fine tuning has been having lots of static, but here goes
April 1, 2014 126 pounds
down 1 pound from January 1, 2014

goal to weigh 124 on June 30, not a bunch of weight, but I have been sitting around what I am for about a year, I know I have to jog something,

fine tuning

8 + glasses of water daily
a spark video
at least a 30 minute walk daily
10,000 steps daily

I also gave up candy for lent, and so far I have perfect, really do not even want any, but I am eating some dried fruit, which I am sure makes up for the sugar craving emoticon

My goals are to:
1) Keep up with my nutrition tracking and see if I can't get more of the nutrients within the recommended guidelines
2) Keep working on getting myself up to being able to run 5K for my first marathon in July
3) Spend more time this year enjoying gardening in my yard and taking more outdoor walks

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. Youll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.

Off for a rainy 3 mile walk-weight lifted already.
One of my goals for the new quarter is to mix in some different exercises.
2nd-remember the water!
Artwork or sewing to relax.
Would love to see 1# a week.

My goal is very simple (in theory, anyway!) but it used to be very effective and I need to get back to experiencing the success I had when I first joined Spark People in 2009. I just want to track my food daily and stay within my calorie range.

Sunny thank you for the link. Today, Friday, April 4th, I am going to stick to the goal of 1 lb a week. Now, that I have said it, I will have to be accountable to all of you!

You made it through the Winter and now it is time to recommit to the Spring!!

The 50+ TEAM 2014 LOSE SOME challenge is in 4 separate time periods, pretty much in alignment with the seasons.

Know WHAT You Want to ACHIEVE this Spring with us, so we can say "On Your Mark - Get Set - Go"

emoticon emoticon emoticon

Here's how it works to LOSE SOME: A Fine Tuning Challenge 2014 (Apr/May/June)

You choose your primary goal you want to be accountable for achieving.

If a pound a week is too much, or too little, pick what is achievable, not what is wishful thinking!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
REMEMBER:
Making your goal feels emoticon and then even surpassing it feels WAY BETTER emoticon than reaching for a goal emoticon you cannot meet.

emoticon emoticon emoticon

THAT's IT. Keep it simple and let's take off ....something.
