The odd codes are from punctuation marks, and it does seem to be worse on messages typed from cell phones... I get those too, and today I'm on my laptop because phone is charging, so it shouldn't have a problem today.

yes i soak them in the coffee. my dear friend, who owns the Hotel Torres Di Bellosguardia in Florence, whose recipe i use, says..put the ladyfingers in the coffee, wait a second then flip. wait a second then put them in the pan. He uses hard ladyfingers rather than the soft cakey ones, and i get them in the international foods section. Thats why the chilling after putting it together is important, so they have time to absorb the coffee and get soft.
Real tiramisu takes time...and them more chilling time..

i havent tried the keto one..like i said..i'd have to use decaf then toss it. i also think that using normal coffee may be why you didnt get the taste as much..espresse is stronger. The last order of it i made they told me it wasnt strong enough on the coffee...i had ended up using double because the ladyfingers soaked up so much!! i used, also, just the 2 tablespoons of rum as the customer asked for it, but Amerigo doesnt have rum in his recipe.

I think the symbols come when you post from a cell phone rather than a computer?

The tiramisu was delicious. I brushed the coffee/rum (plain coffee and 2 tbsp. of rum) on to the cake - and both my husband and I thought it did not taste "coffeeish" enough. Still decadent and delicious though.

Next time I'd use coffee extract which was optional, but I didn't have any so I skipped it.

Holly do you drench the ladyfingers in the coffee? My recipe said don't put too much on, so I poured out most of the 1/4 cup I even used. That may have been why the flavor was not as strong as I expected.

Oh my gosh. I'd do it again - maybe once a year. So much work!! It said "45 minutes total" LIAR!! I was at it for hours. Still, worth it.

Authentic tiramisu is made with espresso. Some add rum or brandy into the espresso, but it’s a small amount if it is added. I’m sure a dessert could be made without the coffee, but it wouldn’t be tiramisu.
I love the smell of coffee—just never much liked the flavor. I can deal with a small serving of tiramisu as the ladyfingers and mascarpone mute it somewhat.
KD how was it?

I don't believe for one minute that tiramasu *has* to be made only with coffee!! The first tiramisu I ever had was at a hoity-toity expensive fine dining restaurant in Little Rock, AR in the early 1990's and I about choked, because they used either rum or amaretto, I'm not sure which, some sort of liquor. Very good... of course... and later on, I had it at other restaurants where they used dark chocolate as the flavoring. It was on into 2000's when I began seeing tiramisu commonly made with coffee (or chocolate). I'm guessing it is likely made with coffee or chocolate (in Kansas, in any case, since we have had some of the most asinine liquor laws known in the USA) as a way to make the dessert more commonly available and less costly to make, compared to tiramisu made with the liquors and rums and such.

Will be fun to try a gluten free version, though!

Well Holly sent me this recipe and as one of the things I miss most is having my daughter-in-law's tiramisu.

I haven't tasted it yet (will update this evening) but here is a picture, and here is the recipe. I do have to say it took a long time to make. Was it worth it? I don't know. Yet.
