The "OG: Write Daily" goal is not working.

That SUCKS, because, as introductions have come in, it has become clear that most of us want to develop a daily writing habit. Everyone else wants to at least write MORE. Considering how prevalent this goal is, and how important it is to the success of a writer, finding a way to create a useful challenge seems crucial.

I've thought long and hard about how to fix it and I've come up with a potential solution. I see a variety of problems with the way we can set up goals and with the goal itself. Here's what I propose:

There will be TWO "write more" challenges, at two different levels. They will reset each month. There will be a sign-up period at the beginning of the month after which we should NOT join the challenge ... so that the team goal doesn't get out of sync with the number of people trying to achieve the goal. That means participants will have to sign up each month ... which should make us feel more accountable.

The first level will be called "OG: Write Daily 90%"
Folks will be discouraged from signing up after the 4th of the month, because they would then be unable to meet the 90% goal. Anyone who has signed up, and recorded at least 1 success by the 5th will count as officially IN and the team goal will reflect the fact that he or she is expected to write every day so that the team can meet its overall goal.

The team goal will be determined with this formula:
(# of days in month X .9 X # of participants. Fractional requirements will be rounded down.)

The second level will be called "Write More Days Than Not 51%"
Folks will be discouraged from signing up after the 15th of the month, because they would then be unable to meet the 51% goal. Participants will be expected to write at least 16 days in any 30- or 31-day month.

The 51% goal will become available for the first time in August 2014.

The rules are simple:
Sign up for ONE goal that provides your desired level of challenge (51% or 90%.)
Sign up each month, by the appropriate deadline. (Approx. the 14th for 51%, the 4th for 90%)
Write for any amount of time, on any project you want.
Record the days you write on your Other Goals page or at the Goals section of the Writers page. (*See below, if you don't know how to do that.)

*This is an "OG:" goal. Such goals require a little more tracking work from you. First, join the goal. Doing so will make the goal available for you to track on your Other Goals page. In order for your writing sessions to count toward our team target goal, you must manually check off the activity box that appears there.
