I am oh so not consistent with any journaling right now...but for those of you who are...more power to you. Keep up the good work.

Hi everyone!

I'm being consistent with the journaling; I use 8x11 spirals and have hit around four pages per day. Polishing up a blog post now for a class I'm taking called Tribewriters (it's online, Jeff Goins runs it.)
Looking forward to Camp Nano in July: Maybe a daily word count thread for those participating when July starts? When it gets closer to time, I'd like to invite as many into the "cabin" as will fit!

Kat

My May goal is to write a 30K novella in my L.A. Nights series. I started last week and am about 4000 words in so far.

Good to see folks popping in and making some plans.

Kat, yes, I do think I'll do the July Camp Nano - I barely squeaked by in Apr., and I'd like to do a better, more consistent job of it in July.

I would love to set aside a dedicated number of even minutes to just write, but unfortunately I have a busy schedule and it is what it is...I will try to at least track what I do so I can see how much I actually get in.

Hi there!

I'm shooting for 2-3 hours per day; to include blogs, social media, column in local Natural Awakenings, and fiction.

Total word count should be between 1500-2000 per day minimum.

Is anyone planning to take on Camp Nano in July or Nanowrimo in Nov this year?

I want to start implementing 2-4 hours for writing purposes and see where that gets me.

MAY GOAL: 116 hours
Basic situation: I'm pretty much done raising my kids and I only work part-time / sporadically. For that reason, I want to keep myself to an intensive writing schedule in which I work for about 8 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. That time is divided between fiction projects and social media, including my blog, The Paranormalist.

UPDATES:

May 16th:
Okay, so it's going pretty much the way I expected. I haven't been able to put in much time (though I've touched on writing almost every day) and I don't have much to show for it. The good news is that I have several blog posts in the works, and I don't have any more hours at the hotel on the calendar for the time being. (I did end up with a couple more shifts after I thought I'd be done.)

I have also spent some time getting re-settled into my novel project. I haven't been tracking well, but I'm going to assume I've got in about 10 hours since I last posted. To get back up to speed, I'll have to do about 18 hours in the next couple of days. Unlikely, but we'll see how many I can get before the 19th.

It's cool to see the rest of you here ... it makes me feel a sense of solidarity :) I'll check back for your updates as we continue through the month.

Renae

May 9th:
So I'm doing an overnight shift tonight and tomorrow, but then I think I'm done filling in at the hotel for the month. My son is graduating from high school / the community college with his AA (duel enrollment) so I will have STUFF to deal with on that front. The week of 5/11 - 5/18 I will have to focus on his finals week and his grad ceremony. During this time, I'll settle for half-time for writing. That means I'm shooting for 28 hours before the 19th.

From the 19th thru the 31st, I should be able to settle into the more demanding, ideal writing schedule for a subtotal of 88 hours.

That puts me at 88 + 28 = 116 hours over the remaining 22 days of the month. (Which comes out to just over 5 hours every day, but I will actually have longer days and days where I'm not writing at all.)

I'll check in after my son graduates on the 16th to say if I managed the half-time schedule. (Plus I'll check in to see if anyone else has taken up the challenge.)

This is a pilot thread, where we can set specific goals, in hours or pages, for a particular month. If it proves useful, we'll start a new one each month.

Should we try the following format?

1) reply to this thread with your writing goal, taking into account the non-writing demands of the remaining days of the month.

2) come back to the thread at least weekly and EDIT your original goal post to show progress.

If I've got a decent feel for the group here, it's likely that a handful of us will participate so it should be pretty easy to scroll through the replies to check for updates.
