Hi POPEYE and SAILOR,

I can see life will be interesting here with you both.

One of the issues I have with the entire fitness and weight management industry is that there's little accounting for individuality. Each person is an individual. So setting a goal such as losing 1.5 pounds a week may be way too little for some and way too much for others. Ditto on walking 30 minutes 3 times a week. If I did only that, I'd have to roll around rather than walk.

So here's the thing. I'm delighted to give folks sample goals - and SAILOR you've done a great job with that - but I'd prefer that folks set their own goals and then write about them.

For example, one of my fitness goals for December 2013 (let's be clear about the year) is to beat my own 5k time of 47:3. And, I've written about it in my Blog and here on the site.

So talk to me - or more accurately, write to me. And not just SAILOR and POPEYE. Let us know what you think about setting fitness goals and how specific you want them to be for the team vs. how specific they should be for you as an individual.

Hey Everyone,

I was just asking a question about actual FITNESS goals. You know... stuff like:
1. Walk 30 minutes 3 times/wk
2. Lose 1.5 pounds per week
3. Swim 30 minutes 3 times/wk
4. Strength train 2 times/week
5. Attend an exercise class or do an exercise video 2 times/week
6. Log 30 minutes of physical exercise everyday for 30 days (Sparkstreak).
7. Lower blood pressure 2 points on the diastolic measurement each month until it gets under 80 mm/Hg
8. Reduce resting pulse rate 2 beats per minute/per week
9. Reduce total cholesterol 5 points per month until it gets below 150
10. Reduce LDL cholesterol 2 points per month until it gets below 100
11. Lose 2 inches off of your body per month

There are a myriad of fitness goals one can track. These are only a small sampling I came up with off of the top of my head. I'm sure, a group of creative minds, such as ours, can develop a long list of actual physical fitness/health goals.

What else can our team do?

Jonny

SAILOR64 - I know I misread the sentence, but the precious added to the thread was in response to what I originally thought I saw.

The mind leads one down so many dark alley ways. Lucky I've got a fairly good sense of direction so I don't get lost too often.

Sailor64 - Did you make a mistake or was your question a challenge to see how far it would get before it was recognized?

At this time, we are running around like chickens with their heads cut off and just trying to get a month ahead. That will bring us to January, 2014.

I don't know about Stacey, but I can't even project to May of 2014 yet - let alone to December 2014!

Some people can get something by me some of the time, but many people can't get by me at anytime. After 13 months in a Combat Zone dealing with people who are trying to work with three hours rest over the past three days, I've developed a type of "Tab stop" when something doesn't ring true.

If you did this on purpose, you might like to try out the "Sarcastic's" team.

Great question! Please take a look at the December challenge. It makes sense to me that until we get to know each other a bit better, we'd each set our own fitness and nutrition goals for the month, then write once a week about them.

I'm open to what the team wants to do. On one of my teams, we had a goal to dance (or move) for ten minutes a day every day through November. On another team - one that is tied to a specific eating plan - we set nutrition goals to follow a friendly eating plan for a certain number of days leading up to Thanksgiving.

So what's your pleasure? Do folks want to have a team fitness goal for this month?

I'll ask the question again in this week's email, just in case folks don't get to read it here.
