So far so good. Had the Spinach-Feta breakfast Wrap with an orange and the turkey and cheese on whole grain for lunch with some carrot sticks and a small salad (this was off-schedule, 1 T each vinegrette, sunflower seeds and cheese) plus I walked 26 minutes at a 17 min/mile pace at lunch.

So far, so good! No bacon in the scramble (don't like it) and swapped out almonds for the celery/peanut butter snack. I'm thrilled that I'm not hungry right now. I've been eating between 1800-2000 calories a day lately (hmmm...maybe that's why I'm up a few pounds...?) and I am really focused on getting down to 1500.

Question: Anyone else noticing that, when putting the ingredients in the nutrition tracker, the calories are sometimes very different? After cutting out the bacon this morning, my breakfast was still 60 calories more than the book reported. Must be the bread choice...?

Day 1 in progress for me :). I woke up and got some water, an apple (out of oranges!!), and then hopped onto the elliptical to get my 20 minutes in on cardio. The Bacon Swiss scramble was modified on my part. We didn't have bacon prepped out, so I threw in bacon bits, and no Swiss (because I dislike it) so I had some light Mexican blend that I tossed in to the mix. Then silly me forgot to the toast part of the meal, lol. Right now I am up to the sandwich and pretzels, and have been doing fine, but I am a coffee fiend. At home I have fat-free half and half that I measure in to my coffee, but at work it is only the full fat kind. I will have to work on that habit of mine. Already have the chicken cooked for tonight's meal and tomorrow's meal so that is going to help a lot once I get home from work.

Hope everyone else is doing great!

I am excited too!! We got our shopping done on Saturday (which left me with a ton of guilt for spending so much) and yesterday I planned out this week's meals and snacks. Hubby has a half marathon on Saturday, so that messes up Friday night's dinner and Saturday's breakfast and lunch.

Next Sunday, my older daughter turns 18. That is just impossible. She must have jumped into a time machine somewhere. So, I will need to be extra careful because she has requested a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. Yikes!

Had the swiss scramble for breakfast but used egg beaters. I have done some mixing up with the meals and days; some of the meals and snacks don't look good to me. My high calorie day is just over 1500. I can adjust that some with snacks if I need to.

I forgot to weigh this morning; and I do it every day. We will have to see what tomorrow brings.

Dang, I got chatty. See you all later,
karleen

Adjusting the menus a bit to account for personal tastes. Aiming for the upper calorie range because it's WAY less than I'm currently eating and I find I get very hungry if I drop down more. Going out for a 30 min run after work.

emoticon Day started good. I got up earlier than usual so I wouldn't have to rush. I made the Bacon-Swiss Scramble for breakfast without the spinach. Added one piece of toast with a little light margarine on it. It actually tasted pretty good. When I got half way through, I accidently knocked the plate on the floor, so there went half of my breakfast. Took the orange with me in case I got hungry before lunch.

Lunch was easy. I often have thin sliced deli ham on a tortilla with lite Miracle Whip & lettuce. Added some baby carrots & lunch was ready.

I have my meals for the first 3-4 days planned out. Since the recipes usually make 4 servings & I live alone, I will cut them in half & make meals for two days from them. I'm used to doing that, so it's no big deal. I won't be trying all the recipes during the two weeks, but will eventually.

My biggest problem with healthy eating is planning ahead & this is giving me the incentive to do that. I've been eating pretty healthy lately, but my protein & carbs are pretty low every day. This plan will definitely help with that.

Good luck to all of you. Just remember, we can do it!

emoticon I'm enjoying the read of this new book and have promised myself that I will follow this new 2 week diet solution to the best of my ability, having to make some substitutions based on what is in my refrig this week before shopping. I'm hoping that this will kick start my sagging diet mojo that I've had for the past 2 weeks.

Good luck to all who are starting today. Hope to meet you all at the last day down a few pounds! emoticon to us for making the commitment to get healthier.

I think I can. I know I can. I will.

I am NOT a morning person and there is just no way I'm going to get up and cook right away. So yesterday I got the bright idea to make and freeze enough mini frittatas for the week. That way I can pop one in the microwave for a few seconds, add some fruit and a piece of whole grain toast and breakfast is basically done. Yay for me!! For once I was thinking ahead, thanks to this challenge.

I already went to an hour-long, low-impact aerobics class, too, so it's been a good start. Will go swimming after lunch to get a bit more exercise. I'm starting to think about lunch now, LOL!!

Very excited and thankful for this oppurtunity!

emoticon Reading through the day one pages. Will be using the lower calorie ranges because of my age, and post menopausal. If I ate 1500 calories I'd look like the Michelin Man! Exercises will have to be done seated as feet do not do jumping up and done or running (plantar faciaitis). Love the comparison between SAD and SparkSwaps, very enlightening!

emoticon Had day one breakfast this morning and it was very filling. I usually eat a couple egg whites and a slice of lite toast in the morning and by mid-morning my stomach is growling. But today, my breakfast kept me satisfied until lunch.

I can only have one snack a day because I'm 64 years old and only 5 feet tall so I was really happy that I made it through the morning without my normal cravings and empty stomach.

I'm trying to follow the eating plan exactly except I'm not too big on spices so will be adjusting things there.

Will post a new blog this evening with pics from my meals and what I did for exercise today.

Better get back to work for now.

Good luck to everyone. emoticon

Did a 20 min walk, had the scramble (but forgot to add the swiss cheese!!) Hubby, Dad and I still enjoyed it. (that's right, we're all sparkin')

Did breakfast and 20 minutes of raking the lawn. I have decided that one snack a day is enough as I am older, so am shooting for the 1200-1300 calorie range per day. The sun is shining, so I am feeling pretty good.

Still no book but USPS reports it is out for delivery so I should have it when I arrive home from work. Had out of state company all weekend so not as prepared as I would like, but I did grab stuff to make my breakfast at work, so there was no stop through the drive thru this morning. I normally go through a drive thru and also get a medium regular coke....and I wonder why I have gained 20 lbs since Dec. 2011. So to get my caffeine, I brought a can of diet coke from home - and when that was gone I switched to water. I will probably do a lot of improvising with the food as I am a somewhat picky eater, but happily I do like most fruits and vegetables. It's my sweet tooth that does me in....trying to cut out the processed junk!

Good luck to everyone.

Hi, Spark Solution challengers!

So far so good...I got off to a rocky start by being a slow planner....I still have to go out and do more shopping and prep work...I have to go through the plan more thoroughly to see where I have to make my swaps, due to allergies.

I have created a personalized spreadsheet so it's all at my finger tips!

Other than that breakfast was tasty and I look forward to the rest of the day!

My fiancé is doing the spark solutions diet with me. I had to change a lot of the ingredients because of food sensitivities and allergies (for example, I cannot have artificial sweeteners because they give me migranes and, umm, gastrointestinal distress and my fiancé is allergic to nuts).
We have also substituted a lot of frozen veggies as a substitute for fresh. Spinach for example. While we want to do this program, we have a budget, too. So we're skipping a few of the more expensive meals and are planning to repeat some of the meals that will use foods we already have in the freezer and pantry.

I penciled in some changes to the menu for Day 1 so I can remember what I did

NEAT minutes - I made a list of activities I can do throughout the week and am checking them off as I complete them (some may be repeated each day)

Fitness - this was pretty open today so there wasn't much planning involved but I need to look ahead and figure out alternative exercises.

emoticon emoticon

QUESTION: right under NEAT: 30 min (on pg 62) it says Calorie Deficit of 1815
my numbers aren't going to add up to that much - 20 min of cardio and 10 min of stretching and 30 min of misc and a walk after supper is not 1800 cal. What am I missing?

I am very excited to start this 2 week program! I just started Spark People last Thursday. I needed to jump on the scale this morning to get my weight so I had a starting point for the challenge. I was shocked (happily) to see I've already lost 4 pounds! I had to tweak breakfast today but then I'll be "tweaking" all the meals since I can't afford that lengthy shopping list! Doing the best I can with what I've got! Happy Day 1 everybody, here we go!!

After shopping yesterday, I was almost ready to check out. My husband certainly wasn't expecting the grocery bill when we finished. Still, we also decided that if we were going to buy this much, we were definitely going to eat it!

So, we did our cardio, had breakfast (a big thing for me - I just don't like breakfast), lunch is in the lunch bags and I have my pedometer on to track my NEAT minutes.

I am totally not ready for this yet so tomorrow will have to be my official day 1. I printed out the grocery list and I'm going to do some meal planning this afternoon and grocery shopping this evening. I saw quite a few comments on the amount of groceries people are buying and how they're spending a lot of money so I will probably switch up the menu a little so I can use some food I already have at home. I really like the idea someone posted about a white board to plan meals for several days so I'm going to do that too. My DH and DS may or may not eat the dinners I make so I will also be planning on eating leftovers for a couple days after I make each recipe. Hopefully with planning on all the leftovers I'll be able to keep my grocery trip somewhat affordable.

Life sometimes gets in the way but I am determined to not let that stop me. I am not able to follow the meal plans for today but I will be able to for dinner tonight and moving forward. I am able to follow the exercise plan though. I need to set a timer, I sit at my desk and then realize several hours have gone by and I have not gotten up to move around. I have a large water bottle by my side and I brought leftovers from last night's mostly healthy dinner for my lunch.

The highlight of my day so far, being able to wear a shirt that has not fit me in a very long time! emoticon

I'm ready!! I didn't get my book until yesterday, so haven't done any specific shopping, but I have healthy stuff in the fridge already AND a cafeteria at work with LOTS of healthy options to choose from (and those not-so-healthy that I try to avoid). I always keeps fruits and veggies at home, so I was ahead of the game there!!

So I'm looking forward to getting through some reading today/tonight and learning more.

I've started my day with water and a good, healthy, simple breakfast. I packed lunch and other healthy snacks, but totally walked off without my plain Greek yogurt. Had to sub in low-fat from the cafeteria downstairs, which has more sugar than I want or am used to, but I refuse to allow this to derail me. It's one day. Tomorrow I will remember my Greek nonfat plain that is sitting at home (large container that will last most of the week).

Here's to an awesome day!!!

I don't know how you ladies get that "day 1" icon, but it's cool!

Anyway, I went for a longer walk than usual, and ramped it up my lifting my knees higher. It made a difference b/c I became winded, which is something that hasn't happened in a LONG time! I'm happy with my strart. Oh and breakfast was yummmmmmmmmmmmmy!

emoticon I'm ready to go. Morning weigh-in was disappointing, although not surprising. I am great at exercising, but have not been watching what/how much I've been eating. So.... I am especially excited and motivated to begin this journey.

I did my shopping yesterday. I actually only purchased three days worth of "stuff," so it wasn't too overwhelming. I would like to follow the plan as closely as possible, but I'm starting with Day 2's menu as I was able to get some cooked chicken breast on sale (but needing to be used quickly). So it's chicken enchiladas for dinner for us tonight.

I had my oatmeal for breakfast and my healthy lunch and snack are packed for work. I started the day with 30 minutes of step aerobics and stretching. I've planned a lunch-time walk for part of my NEAT. Just need to make sure I get the water in. I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes.

Did all my shopping on Friday, prepared some things yesterday. Because of where I live I will be substituting a lot but still make healthier choices than I do now. One change at a time, one moment at a time, emoticon

Well, here we go ... I did my shopping yesterday. I freaked out a little bit due to all the food I was throwing in my cart. I was getting really cranky, so stopped shopping after a bit. The good news, I got all my produce in the cart first. Now just to cut it all up!

I'm going to enter all the meals in the tracker today/tonight for the week, so I can see where I'm eating for the week.

I'm not a prepper (yet), so breakfast this morning was oatmeal/blueberries/almonds. Fruit being consumed today ... orange/apple/grapes. Trekking down to the sandwich shop after doing the elliptical @ the Y during lunch.

I drank the 8oz of water right away when I got up. I'm working on getting the rest in.

I am determined to make a go of this 2-week challenge. Good luck to everyone else in the challenge ...

Wow! We must all be very excited. I've never seen so many early morning posts.

I am excited and ready for Day 1. I started with a short walk - about 15 minutes. I had an egg, with orange peppers, tomatoe slices and a slice of WW toast, 1/2 glass of orange juice, a 2 slices of Hillshire deli ham. I like bacon too much. I'm staying away from it right now.

I've got lunch with me at work. I sliced and diced veggies yesterday. So I'm all set.

Happy 1st Day.

Apparently my book is taking longer to ship than planned and won't be here until Wednesday. But I will use the Spark Tracker menu in the meantime and have printed out the grocery list and will go shopping this afternoon so I'll be all ready when the book gets here. In looking over the grocery list I am pleased that I already have about half of the ingredients on hand. The weather is beautiful here in Kansas - so I went for a 1 mile run followed by 1 mile of walking this morning. The windows are all open in my house and I can hear the birds chirping away. The day is off to a wonderful start!

I'm curious about the daily calorie intake. Is 1500 calories a day too much?

I got up 15 minutes early this morning thinking that would give me plenty of time to prepare and package my breakfast and lunch for work. Wrong!!! I will prepare and package those two meals this evening before I go to bed.

I just finished my 20 minute activity this morning. (actually 25) and I feel great. I need to do my stretch and will do so next. I had Kashi go lean crunch for breakfast and will have a yogurt next.
Kashi has the same amount of protein as an egg. I have also switched to skim milk a few weeks ago. Calcium without all of the fat.
I need to go grocery shopping later for the rest of the weeks meals. I may have to substitute many of the items. I have been keeping in my diet range for a few weeks.

I had to make due with what I had at work with the recipe. I used our 100% whole wheat bagel, our spinach for eggs and swiss. I don't however have the snacks and tomorrow I don't know what I will do yet, because I can't go grocery shopping until pay day, and then I still have to figure out budget.

I did the shopping for the first week yesterday so I'm all set. Had the breakfast so I'm off to a good start. I'm committed to trying the recipes although I'm not terribly fond of salsa and spicy foods.

I read through day 1 yesterday. I am geared up to go. I entered breakfast on today's tracker last night and will put the rest of my food for today in now.

I want to try my Dancing with the Stars DVD I got for Mother's Day. I took my measurements this morning and now I'm checking my planner for the week.

I'm ready to go but I am disappointed that I don't have my book. I do wish the menu's were here on SparkPeople somewhere.

Good luck everyone.

I am loving reading through all the other posts about day 1! Way to go everyone on a great start to the challenge!

My husband and I had the bacon swiss scramble .. yumyum! I think next time I would go for a bit of sharp cheddar instead of the swiss for a little extra flavor.

Just got home from a 27min speed walk. We were intending to go further but it is COLD out there!! My poor son in his stroller .. his hands were like icicles, who knew he would need mittens in May!
