Thanks for all the info and the great upbeat story. I recently read a blog by a doctor who has shifted from traditional medicine to a more wholistic approach. She said too many of us (doctors included) see our bodies as a car we take to the doctor like we take our cars to the mechanic... fix it! She suggested we see our bodies as compasses (which it you obviously do). If you are feeling lousy, consider your compass to be pointing south, examine what is going on and take control to change what you can, get help where you need it. When things are going really well, consider your compass to be pointing north and examine what you are doing and continue doing it! That metaphor made great sense to me.

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

Triiodothyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone. Thyroxine (T4) is typically what doctors see and treat as hypothyroidism. Some doctors just ignore T3. But if your body doesn't make it any more, you just feel like YUCK all over again. I couldn't sleep, I was cold, I wanted to cry ... all the time. I understand why my doctor THOUGHT I was depressed but I knew that my body was falling apart. I knew that there I felt OK some of the time. It was such an odd sensation! Our bodies are so intricately made!

It is amazing to do so well with hypothyroidism! Thank you sooooo much for acknowledging that! It's a tough disorder to lose weight with. I love that I'm finding a way ... because then I can encourage others who are hypothyroid!

That's really great!

A question ..... what is T3?

It's is amazing that you've done all that you've done especially with hypothyroid. I have hypothyroid but it's so mild that I'm not even sure I really have it. I just take that little pill they give me.

Going to the doctor can be discouraging. I remember going to the doctor, giving my blood, and waiting for that inevitable call where I would be told to take this ... or that ... or warned of this new development. It was not fun.

So I can imagine going to a doctor that tells you that what you are doing is working and that you are doing great is really refreshing. Bedside manner really doesn't seem to get the focus it should.

I'm really happy for you!! It must feel great to know what you're on the right track and well on your way!

Last year, I had to change Primary Physicians. My old one didn't know enough about current practice for Thyroid disease and when my thyroid failed again, she diagnosed me with depression and sleep apnea. I have NEITHER of these! I asked for a referral to an Endocrinologist who immediately KNEW what was wrong with me ... my body had STOPPED making T3. And, I found a new Primary Physician.

Fast forward to yesterday. I showed up to the new Primary Physician. A full year later. About twenty pounds lighter than when I'd seen her last year for a meet & greet appointment. I'm feeling more in control. But still struggling from time to time because I'm still learning what it is that I need to do to take care of this body with it's Thyroid disease.

She was soooooo excited with my accomplishments! She praised my efforts. Was happy that I exercise each day. Amazed that I do all that I do. Thought it remarkable that I've taken the time to learn all that I have about my body and how I work. What a GREAT way to manage a patient! Send me away feeling upbeat and encouraged about ME! I don't know that I've ever had a doctor do this for me!!

I am sooooo motivated to be On Plan today ... and tomorrow! But I'll take it one day at a time and work it today!

Thanks for reading my long post! I'm still on top of the world from yesterday!
