Awesome, Amy!

My neighbor brought me some more fabric she found in her mother's things. Not sure I'll be able to use it (small odd pieces, some is polyester), but there are 2 pieces of 2 inch blue/white squares sewn together and I think I'll make her a table topper with them.

When you can use up twice as much as you brought in that is a bonus! Hubby took a load of stuff to Goodwill yesterday and I have a stack to take to the church. Trouble is, I'm the cutter at church and back maker. Can't do both at the same time. I still have yards of fabric on bolts here from my business. Oh, gee, I guess I could count that as it leaves the house. On my third cup of coffee to rehydrate. Carol

The stack and whack tree has been fun and goes together quickly. And my pile of fabrics I'm choosing from is going down. She suggests laying out all the blocks to see what colors/prints I need to add to it to make it pretty. I probably have too many prints. The guest bed is cleaned off and newly made so I can use it as a design board. Carol

I bet the tree scraps could be sewn together into crumb blocks and more trees could be cut out from them. Crumb blocks might even make a nice border. She wouldn't have to waste the fabric!

The tree has been fun and I'm using up treasured fat quarters I've been squirreling away for several years. When you buy colors you love, they go together! The tree uses 34 FQs. But it really does use the fabric. There is not much cut off from each piece. One person complained on Amy's blog that it wastes fabric. Where is she coming from? In between sewing, I sort and pitch and stack things into gift piles, church, goodwill, etc. Carol

Bev--you deserve a few additions! You do a great job keeping things under control.

I did finish piecing the Cat quilt top together. I did not even add up the purchases yet so I will be able to take a nice deduction along with the addition! The quilt is looking way too busy and bright for my taste, but I do think she will enjoy it. I will most likely layer it next week. It turned out larger than I originally planned. I will probably break even for additions and subtractions once I have it completed.

Well, I ordered a 12 piece FQ pack for a birthstone quilt, and 4 yards of Halloween fabric that was marked ridiculously low. So that's 7 yards up, but I have finished quilting the 2 trail run quilts so that will help. I'll not deduct them till I get the binding on.

That is a great idea Amy. And batiks are so interchangeable. I keep down to 1 1/2" square as well. I'm not fond of batiks or even solids. Goes back to my design days of always mixing and matching a variety of prints in different sizes. Sometimes you have to have solids though. I used a red solid on the back of Santa. I had washed it so I hope it doesn't bleed. Carol

You got that right Carol! I cut into my fat quarter batiks all the time and replace them as certain color ranges get low. Many of the same ones are in multiple quilts even if I originally had a fat quarter. I keep using them until I can't get a 1.5 inch square out of them.

Carol--adding to the stash is fun and we have done it as a reward for enduring so much this year. It is surprising how different pieces that you think why did I buy this come in handy. Sometimes those are the perfect shade of color and when cut up small add spice to a project. I hang on to lots of those fabrics. Even though my goal is not to add, I still do as it is my entertainment. I guess I will be leaving some behind someday, but it will have served an entertainment factor for me. Don't feel guilty about having a stash!

So I have dragged out plenty of fabric lately, looking for Christmas fabrics to use in Amy SMarts Tree quilt. Then I was trying to decide on which fabrics to use for my sewing apron. And pulling out so many from shelves. My God, it is embarrassing. And I have brought in 99 yards this year. Why on earth did I need to add 99 yards to the mix? I think I have settled on the Project Runway fabric even though I'm not a brown person. Using a fun dress themed fabric for the pockets and contrast binding will help. Now I have to clean up the mess that I made while searching and pulling fabrics out. Some of this is definitely going to the church. We are getting overwhelmed there as well. Carol

I'm adding in the yardage I used on the Santa panel quilt. I'm on a roll with using up batting pieces as well. If it isn't big enough, I zig zag it together with strips. I hope I dont add much to the fabric in today. Its dangerous going to the LQS. Carol

I took credit for the top in September, so this is just backing/binding. If I remember correctly, it is about 44 X 54. I'm not sure what size a body pillow is. The squares finish at 4 inches.

Yea, Amy. Did you not use more than 3 yds for the quilt or was that the backing? It is a very cute quilt and it is about the size of a body pillow. I'm thinking of making it a body pillow to put on a sofa somewhere. Remember I made the top for myself from the fit pattern that I got. Well, the right shoulder isn't right and I keep wanting to smooth it down. This is perfect for me to take apart at the right shoulder and fix it for my sister to wear. The top will be too big for her but she won't care at this point. She isn't wearing a bra at all so it should work. I just need some velcro. Carol

Yesterday, I decided to work on the stationwagon with trees on top block. And I needed to make more trees. And I had all those beautiful green cutoffs from the paper pieced tree I made so I sewed a bunch of them together as crumbs and cut them into the size I needed for the trees. They look wonderful. Now I have a lot of little triangle cut offs but do I reallly want to make tiny HST from them? Maybe. Carol

Bought 2 yds last week for a future panel quilt. Got the pattern from Annie. Now I need to fins the panel. Interesting thing about greens Bev, I have sent so many to you, I needed to buy some for my tree project. I started to try to quilt it yesterday but tension isn't cooperating so need to get that right first. I do not know why I continually lose the instruction book that goes with Platypus. I need it. Thanks Amy. I might just do that. The station wagon with tree on top is super cute. cArol

Surprisingly small blocks with small pieces go together fairly quick. The seams are small so they don't take much time to sew and if you make a mistake--no big deal! Very easy to redo (just start with more fabric or rip an inch worth of stitches!). Make one between other blocks and before you know it, you will have a row.

I was looking through the Vintage Christmas book by Lori Holt last night. All the blocks are super cute but so many tiny pieces, like 1" for the 6" blocks. If you want to do something in a hurry, this isn't it. Carol

I made the stationwagon with tree on top from Lori Holt. It is cute. Now I have to see what else I want to do. The other blocks are all small pieces so not sure I want to go there. Carol

Carol--I bet you could. It wouldn't have to be big. I did not get around to pinning yesterday...maybe today. I think it is procrastination setting in.

I like that goal Amy. I took the Christmas tree to Arts and Crafts and they loved it. One member took off the paper for me. I pinned it to batting and backing and it is ready to quilt. Now auditioning a quilting motif. Quiltmaker magazine arrived yesterday and has some awesome Christmas quilts and motifs in it.
I took a stack and a bag of Christmas fabrics to arts and crafts yesterday. Our ironing lady sorted them and ironed them for me. I have in my mind that I want to make a Christmas Quilt for the church but that is a lofty goal. Since I started the tree on saturday and it is now finished, I guess I could do it. Carol

I grabbed some languishing fat quarters and pieces today for Christmas sewing. It feels good to plan on using them up. CArol

Finish a few tops Amy and you will catch up. I'm almost done with the Christmas tree. I appliqued some cardinals and pinecones onto it to make it an outdoor tree. CArol

Fabric In 97 yards plus 2 layer cakes
Fabric out 164yards

I've been adding to the mix lately but will use up some as soon as I finish this tree! Bev did a great job in September, using up 20 yds! Carol
