I have made those for gifts, but for me I just put rice in a tube sock and stitch it shut.

Although I use a heating pad, that looks nice. Did you see that you can freeze it for a cold pack too?

You are right about finding things on the internet and at guild meetings. I do use lots of my books--especially those with actual quilting designs and techniques. I usually look at them at JoAnn's before I buy. I am much more selective than I used to be.

I have two mag subscriptions and not sure I will renew them. I usually glance through them once and that is about it. There are only so many ideas for quilting and once in a while, someone hits on a really popular design and everyone wants to do it.
I ordered a book recently thinking I would really like it. Disappointed. With the internet, you can usually find a pattern you like somewhere and just download it. Carol

Once a month I go to a quilt guild meeting. People bring their magazines that they no longer want. I don't need a subscription because there are so many freebies.

Carol--a few years back, I went through old magazines and found that many patterns were the same. They remake them with updated fabrics. I have cut down my subscriptions to just one and I buy a few issues that have something I am interested in making. I still buy books, but most of them are now focused more on techniques. I do buy a few patterns too. I do like new tools if they make a project easier. I do like to play with new things as it keeps me interested in the hobby.

I agree on the patterns. And new ones are mostly redesigns of an old one. I am testing a pattern for Kitchen Table Quilts. What was I thinking except I just wanted to use up fabrics and it is a strip quilt of sorts. Carol

That tree looks like it would be a great advent tree as well. Hang an ornament on it each day. Sew on 24 buttons. One of our Arts and Crafts members at church does a lot of cross stitch ornaments and these would be cute. Carol

I still have my Etsy shop and could put some things on it. But we end up using a lot of items for door prizes for our snow birds who come in the winter. And we plan to have a sale for them as they had asked us last year. So far, we have made $520 which will go to paying off the floor in the upper building. Carol

As I said I am no longer hoarding scraps but I do have a lot of fat quarters and equivalents. For the last few days I have been having fun making bags for my traveling sewing supplies like my iron and plugs for my sewing machine. I also made a scrappy "chicken" pin cushion. Just too much fun!

There is another accomplished quilter at the Yacht Club and she is bringing me a box of Christmas fabrics next week. Like I need more. But since Arts and Crafts is the next day, And guild that night, I can take it there. After I go through it of course. Likely be some fabric I can use for the Christmas trees. Carol

I've been sewing along with Amy. Well, I havent started yet but I plan to. I love this quilt. Of course you will have to buy the pattern but she has 30% off ending today with code frosty. It requires 34 fat quarters or something like that and I dont have that many. But you know, probably if I set my mind to it I could fix that problem. I have a coordinated set of Christmas that I love and could add to it. Or just pull out some others. It doesnt have to match match. Carol

Here is the link to the twins blog. From there you can go to free patterns, panels etc. And yes, they do have great pricing on fabrics. CArol

Those look like fun and simple quilts to make.

This site has a treasure trove of patterns for scraps. The quilts do have lots of pieces. Also note that they have good prices on some of their bundles of fabric--especially half yard cuts.

Free pattern, it calls for 3" strips but could easily be made from 2 1/2" scraps. I came home with a stack of black scraps yesterday that I will run through the cutter. And see if I can attempt this. Carol

The Toadstool pincushion! When we were in Austria two years ago, I found a crafty sort of shop that had a wrist pincushion. One and I bought it. It is similar to this toadstool and I do wear it on my wrist. I saw someone on Project Runway with the same pincushion! Probably purchased in the US and the shop owner was selling it. I love perusing the net and finding all sorts of crafty things. Carol

Polly has a great idea for using a charm pack and creating a baby quilt. I quite often do this with 5" squares but now I have a size to go on and easily use a 42" wide backing. Love the applique. Carol

That is a cute use for a cuff Bev. I cut the cuffs off high, box the ends and make a wine sleeve to hold a bottle of win. Tie it with twine or ribbon. Gets a good laugh when delivered with a bottle of wine. Carol
