My carb intake is about 30 grams per day (not counting fibre), and 40 to 50 on a high day, but I aim for 30 or less.

I was lower for a while, but my feeling is that my body actually got less fit to handle carbs, sort of like lifting heavy objects. Do the lifting now and then and your muscles stay strong, ready to lift a little. Do no exercise and you get weaker and weaker. Of course lifting a very heavy object can hurt you too, so there is a spot in the middle.

But all in all, my impression is that 30 to 40 grams a day is about right, and while you can live comfortably on 20 I think your system gets weaker at managing the carbs. So I've upped my carbs just a little into that 30 to 50 range.

I heard about something different that sounded really good and LOW carb. It's a snack to replace chips or crackers......baked parmesan cheese. Take shredded cheese and put small piles of cheese on a cookie sheet and bake til crisp.....I'm thinking I need to try this in some salsa or spinach dip....

HEALTHNUT,

You aren't ever hungry, and you lost about 2 pounds a week for the last month, it really doesn't go faster than that. Keep it up.

You are definitely doing things right.

on my 1200 cal menu plan ---
i feel better - i have no idea how much carbs i was eating before jan 6 when i was told i got the "big "D"" .. (sighs)

i too am eating 105 g carbs a day -- the diabetic counsellor said 100 - 150 carbs day

the dr said 50 g carbs a day

she disagreed with the dr -- and said i need carbs for energy - -who am i to argue with her

following her advice of 100 - 150 g carbs day
i lost 8 lbs this month!!

I do not eat bread = pasta - potatoes - ocassionally brown rice but 1/4 cup i dont think that is terrible thing to have ... do you ?

not entirely sold on the idea of high fat high protein -- diabetic counsellor will not agree with that at all - i am telling you right now ...

SUCCESS345,

I have no idea how many carbs I used to eat per day, hundreds of grams. Now I'm around 30. It sounds tough, but actually it is easy. Carbs are addictive. Once the addiction is broken its easy. But like an alcoholic, I have to watch out.

Anyway, you were looking for a low carb bread. Here is a recipe, a little dry, but heck, www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

3 grams of carbs for the whole loaf.

Here is a cracker recipe, 4% carbs by weight:

Take the seasonings in that one with a grain of salt, they are really what you like.

I was counting my carb choices that did not work for me.. So now I'm counting my grams of carbs.. since Monday I have lost -1.2. My doctor said to have 100-180 grams for the day. I have had little over 100 each day. My biggest thing is l love my bread, so I need to find a low carb bread,
30 gram for meals. 15gram for snacks.
Good luck as I know its so confusing and alot to learn.

Hi I'm new to the team and have been diabetic for 4 yrs. In the last year with seeing an endocrinologist and changing medications we have gotten my bs under control with my last A1C being a 7 and when it all began I was nearly a 10. I have made great strides in meal planning and with that said made many positive changes, however this low carb dieting has me a little confused.

First of all I don't really know how many carbs I should be having daily and I have read and listened to so many that I am only more confused.

I have read that 15 grams = 1 carb serving. Some say they stay within 150-180 carbs a day and I am assuming they mean grams. Recently on Dr. Oz a gentleman was on there that was suppose to be an expert and said that one should limit themselves to 100 carbs a day.

He said for example: because carbs convert to sugar we should ignore sugar on a label and take the total carbs and times it 4 times to get our total carb for that item. So for example if a food item has 15 carbs x 4 it would equal 60 grams. So with his advice that one item would be 3/4 of what we should have for the entire day. This concept makes sense and yet the more I read labels doing it this way, you would only have approximately 2-3 servings of carbs a day., is this okay being we are diabetic. See what I mean, its crazy, lol

I have dieted for many years even before becoming diabetic and I know if I eat too many carbs I will not lose. When I did Weight Watchers we never counted calories it was all portion control before and so much from each food group until they went to the point system which was easy enough to follow but I haven't done there diet in years. I will say that when I did I saw results.

So I am taking from what I have learned about myself through the years and am trying to devise a plan that is healthy and will work to help me lose 1-2 pounds per week.

I welcome any suggestions you and the team may have. I have been in the last 10 weeks losing and gaining the same 10 pounds and I have many to lose, so it is disheartening. Thanks in advance, and sorry for rambling on but I am sure I am not alone. :(
