I like to keep a nice frozen curry in the freezer too. I like the ones from Aldi and Lidl which tend to have fewer artificial additives than others.

Otherwise, I like to make my own freezer meals. Anything tomato-based freezes well, I find, soup, lasagne, bolognese sauce, etc.

I also freeze chicken carcasses until I have enough to make soup or stock.

My favourite convenience food is frozen veggies for soup - the "casserole mix" usually has a good stock of carrot, swede, onion and cauli to make a healthy, thick soup.

In the summer when fresh veg is really cheap in the market, I make my own frozen veggie blend, blitzed/diced in the food processor then packed into varying portion sizes for the freezer as a base for soups and sauces. (I think I may have stolen the recipe from Nigella who uses it as a way to sneak veggies into kids' dinners)

I always include ordinary onion plus varying combinations and quantities of: garlic, red onion, celery, carrot, courgette, green, yellow and red pepper, aubergine, mushrooms of any edible kind, chilli, herbs. It's great for bulking up a spag bol and getting a portion or two of your five a day into an otherwise stodgy meal.

My favourite freezer junk food is fishfingers. Can't beat a fishfinger sandwich for a treat when others are having chip shop fish and chips! Mmm, on crusty bread with Sainsbury's Be Good To Yourself 80% less fat/20% more plastic mayonnaise. emoticon

frozen veg as they keep longer as Trev says and meals I have cooked myself and frozen.
Also frozen berries as a standby for when the grands have visited and raided the fridge for my fruit. Will never stop them enjoying fruit instead of sweets and crisps etc

The sainsbury's commercials about frozen food rings so true. I love to have something in the freezer that just needs heating and eating.

Waitrose does a really good Thai Chicken curry - it could use more veg, but in a pinch tasty filling and good on the calories.

However - the Waitrose frozen risotto dishes are awful.

What are your favourite discoveries in the freezer ailse?
