My goal is to learn how to eat more good food in order to stay away from processed junk food. My daughter is super supportive and trying to help and loves watching YouTube videos on cooking and lowering calories, so I have good support.
I love coffee, calorie loaded coffee. I don't need the caffeine most days, but the comforting taste is "home" to me. I need to find a way to get that in way less calories.

My goal is to find recipes for vegetable and fruit based sauces to plate my food with so that all the little piles of different colored veggies are tasty with spicy sauces. That's my plan for now. If anyone has any recipes for such sauces please post in reply!

I have a couple:
Tomato sauces with Moroccan seasonings - tomato sauce sautéed in olive oil with garlic and onion with ras el hanout and cumin.
Pico del gallo - chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice and cider vinegar.
Mango salsa with mango, jalapeño, cilantro, onion, lime juice and cider vinegar.
Curry sauce made of sautéed and pureed onions, apples, bananas, celery, carrot, with chicken broth and curry powder.

I have used this method, pouring sauce on the plate, and putting a chicken breast in the middle and piles of spaghetti squash, ruby chard, and green beans around the chicken. Having different colors and textures makes the meal more satisfying to me.

Any other ideas?

Didn't track today at all. Meant to but didn't. I didn't eat much either and neither did I walk much. Pretty lazy day. Will do better tomorrow.

Here's to a better day tomorrow. Moving forward not beating myself up for my lazy day.

Welcome! Journaling is encouraged. It's hard to do, but it definitely will let you know the FACTS! It is sooo hard when you have long days to be energetic at night! Working on that myself! This is a GREAT Challenge for all that you are looking to do!

Welcome! Let's eat up and slim down! emoticon

My goal is to not let long hectic work days derail my healthy eating plans. It is so easy to say "I've had a long day I don't feel like doing my workout or eating what I had planned" and then don't. I also want to track my dinners too. I usually track my breakfast (If I have it) and lunch along with the snacks but when I get home make dinner clean help with homework clean up again I'm usually done. I also want to drink more water. If I track my food I am hoping to track my water and want to keep drinking after work. I have a nice bottle I got for Christmas and I use it daily at work. Then I stop. Need to fix that. I also want to incorporate more fruits/veggies. Find different meals that are healthy and easy to make. Follow through. I hope to fix these things with this challenge.

Again - Journaling the food you eat - ahhhh... It all seem to come to this.... BUT facts are facts -

the amount of calories in versus what calories we use to live throughout the day and burn through exercise.... facts will be facts!

I need to be more accountable even though I stumble. Need to make the extra effort to journal EVEN when I fall off the food and exercise wagon!!!!

Good luck to you! Keep us updated on how you are doing!!?!!?

Journal the food you eat - ahhhh... I think that is where my downfall is. I need to not only journal my food - but the ACCURATE amount of food I've eaten!

I start out ok and then fall off the waggon either by the end of the day or by the end of the week..

Always ok to stumble ALWAYS ok to re-start!

Hope you are being more successful with your journaling?

My Sparkversary is coming up next week. I initially lost 38 pounds and after a couple of years slowly gained it back. I then lost 17.8. In the early winter I gained 3 pounds. I decided to get back on track.

My goal is to journal my food again and be mindful of everything I eat.

I've now lost 2.6 pounds and am almost where I was in the fall. This time I'm gonna keep going and get leaner (less fat) and more fit! I've got a way to go, but I'm going the right direction!

My goals for the week 1 is to journal my food... especially during the holiday season - it is HARD! I have been VERY surprised to see how many calories I actually do eat!! YIKES! Just having to journal the food has helped me to cut down how much I eat! Woo Hoo for this challenge... or really a clearer look at myself!

I have been having difficulty finding a food plan. Dash diet was suggested. After weeks of research I think I have figured it out enough to give it a chance. I am hoping this challenge will keep me on track.

I want to learn how to choose healthier foods with the correct amount of nutrients. I have been using the nutrition tracker, but tend to be over in some things and under in others. I keep experimenting with different foods and amounts to get closer to what I need to be healthy.

My goal is to eat a maximum of 1600 calories a day and to burn off 1200 calories total in the first week to find out what my range should be.I will discover my calorie range to lose weight. I will track my food and eat in that range. It might take a week of tracking to find out what it is now. I have lost 48 pounds this year since February, so it has likely changed.

I always eat mini meals. I have my breakfast in 2 meals every 3 hours. My lunch is 2 meals every 3 hours. I have a full supper and a 100 calorie snack 3 hours after supper. So my eating plan is to have something every 3 hours.

I expect to have no trouble with my first weeks goal! emoticon emoticon

My first goal is to eat at least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables daily.

My second goal is to find my daily calorie "sweet spot". I just joined a week ago and plan to eat at the high end of my recommended range unless I see that I am not losing any weight.

I eat 3 fruits a day. Vegetables I eat a hot veggie at dinnertime and raw veggies at lunch.
So I am eating lots of F+V daily.
I drink 8 water a day.
I eat whole grains daily and 2 skim milk, and one greek yogurt each day.

Still looking for what kind of healthy snack I can eat after dinner. Popcorn usually 3x a week
and need other ideas.
I am slowly eliminating sugar and sodium snacks but still have a problem with this.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Goals

1) 5 a day (fruits/veggies)

2) Mini meals at 200-250 calories per meal. I have found that this works best for me and keeps me from reaching for the sugar/carbs. I have to consciously pick my meals this way to stay within the calorie range

I don't want to add to much to this goal yet. I want to be consistent with these before adding anything else.

make meals bulkier by adding seasonal veg (tomtoes and cucumbers now)
when sweet craving hits and 10g of nuts and raisins just don't cut it, one square of dark choc
Water and herbal tea (no sugar)

The only real challenge here is to stay within range :S I am usually really good till the afternoon and it goes downhill for me in the evening :(

That's what I am going to do too. 5 FRs&VEGs..at least emoticon , and to track every day. Don't know if I can guarantee one pound loss per week; but we can try.

My calorie range is 1200-1350 daily. I also track my food and excerise which helps a lot. I eat a lot of raw vegetables and fruit.I9 have set a mini goal for myself and that is to loose 20-30 pounds this month. For each pound I loose I put $1.00 in a jar, but if for each pound I might gain I subtract $1,00.

Yay only 30 days til spring

My range is 1200 to 1500 cals, and journaling it in the spark app all week beginning SUN-SAT.
Mini meals are at 10 and 4, consisting of 1/2 of a bar, a piece of fruit, cup of tea and 5 ritz/1oz cheese, or a piece of toast with butter. (all ranging to be 100-200 cals). Regular meals are no problem unless I am eating out, and they consist of pretty healthy foods. My biggest challenge is wanting to eat after I eat, esp. supper. So getting a cup of tea or diet coke is my plan there. So , here I go, with week one. If you are new, like me, remember, this is a process, with ups and downs, and learning how to handle both. Emotions challenge women, so lets be happy and thankful for support and many other blessings. Jo Lynn

Maybe your lunch meal is too large if you are not hungry at break time. Perhaps you could divide lunch into 2 portions and eat the larger portion at lunch and the other at break?

I joined this team a long time ago. I have been trying to lose weight and I am struggling. I start out good. I do good for breakfast, and lunch, I mess up at dinner. Sometimes I mess up after work before I cook dinner. At work I eat lunch and than at break I am to full to eat my fruit but than I come home and eat something sweet. I really do want to lose weight. I just don't know what to do.

I love vegetables, and would love to go away from the "meat, potatoes, and vege's" concept to a meal. I like the unusual dishes from the ordinary, plain ones. I want meals high on the vegetables, with different forms of protein (such as fish and nuts), and high on fiber. I'll get there, but it will take a lot of careful planning on my part.

Welcome!

Looks like I tried (and failed this in April). I'm back now and have a 2 week clean eating challenge under my belt and am now doing another round. So, I guess I would be in week 2 of tracking veg. I know my calorie needs, have meals plus two snacks on the menu I'm doing. Let's do this thing!

I went vegan back in March. Had a couple of hiccups here and there. But I've lost 59# since mid-October 2014. Been stuck at the same weight for the past 2 months! My goals for this challenge are to be more conscious of what I'm putting into my body. Less processed foods! No more cookie monster. I need to work on upping my veggie intake. I'm good with the fruits. :) I hope to lose at least 4# for the month of August, but I won't beat myself up if I don't. Last month, I met my goal of 5 miles/day 14 out of 31 days. Need to start incorporating strength training into my life. Blaaaah. LOL! Anybody got any tips? I want it to be fun and not have it feel like a workout. Best of luck to everyone!

Welcome! Good goals! Yep! Yep! My experience is that if you don't have enough protein... you will get hungry faster and I tend to eat more!

Wising you the best on your journey! emoticon

Hi, I'm new here.
My first week goal is to keep eating healthy foods and make sure I get enough protein in each meal.
I wish you all the best!

Working on day 10 of no bingeing or overeating.

For this challenge I believe I'm on week 1.

To those that started like me, keep going. We can do this.

I need to start measuring my portions more consistently. I need to work on not eating late at night. I need to either stop having snacks or limit my snacks to fruits or vegetables instead of junk.
