99 miles for 2013 so far. The Mountains of Moria have some into sight. Less than 300 miles to get back to Rivendell.

Witchofbreithla- thank you for your congratulatons. Yes, life has a habit of 'getting in the way' sometimes and we just can't seem to find enough hours in a day to get everything done. That's a long time to be on your feet each day, so make sure you are wearing the correct and comfortable shoes. Also give yourself some time to lay back and put your feet up higher than your knees for a while each evening, to ease your legs and ankles a bit. I 'do' worry about anyone who has to stand for such lengths of time.

You have walked 470 miles.
You have passed Rivendell.

Congratulations, Mel! That's awesome.

I've come to two realizations this week: 1) I can't seem to find the time to post here every day, so I'm going to have to do it cumulatively once or twice a week.

2) Being on my feet for 12-15 hours 3 days a week for my job makes it really difficult for me to work out the following day. My legs have been killing me for the last couple of weeks. So I may only be able to get in a good cardio workout on the weekends. However...I do know I'm averaging 5 miles every day that I work.

So far this week:
Monday: walked 5 miles at work
Tuesday: walked 3 miles
Wednesday: walked 5 miles
Today: walked 1 mile.

You have walked 51.58 miles.
You have passed Woody End.
It is 0.42 miles to the next landmark.
You have 406.42 miles to reach Rivendell.

"Tomorrow is another day."

Mel ~ I haven't been active lately, but I got the email announcing that you had arrived at Rivendell and wanted to let you know how I am celebrating in spirit with you. Your post to this thread brought tears to my eyes, reading how much your son continues to inspire you through his life and his special gift to you. As you set out toward Lothlorien, I wish you well. Wave at me as you pass by, as I'm sure you will at your ever-onward pace!

Blessings...you are an inspiration to us all!

135 days it has taken me to walk from Bag End to Rivendell. It took Frodo and his mates only 27 days but then he had no distractions like SparkPeople. emoticon

Well, I'm off to Lothlorien commencing tomorrow. Ironic as my journey started on the 8th anniversary of my younger son's death, and this new journey commences on my elder son's 42nd birthday.

It was my Gary (who died) who introduced me to 'The Hobbit'. On the inside of my paperback is written - To Mum, Happy Mother's Day '88, love Gary xxx

I will be grateful to my son for so many things, Tolkein being one of them. R.I.P.

So, here I am on the eve of my precious older son's birthday and ready to embark on a new journey. It is a treat doing these challenges and keeps me nogging along as it should be.

Happy walking everyone! emoticon

455 miles walked. Almost to the cliff leading into the valley of Rivendell. Only 3 miles now to reach Rivendell.

Wow, yes Maraleyni, can't believe I've nearly made it! Walking from Rivendell to Lothlorien next adventure, which is 462 miles. Leaving Rivendell at dusk on the day after I finish this trek. Need a few hours to gloat at my triumph.

I loved the encouraging email. I related to a lot of the "excuses." I kept thinking, would the hobbits make all these excuses to not keep going? I need to be a bit more like these hearty folk! emoticon

I haven't posted miles for a while. I had a rough bout with the flu (including fevers or 102-103 degrees F). Now I'm better but still have a lingering cough. But I'd like to start walking again. When I was pushing myself, I would go out and walk at least 10 minutes, even when it was freezing and I shivered most of the way! I was also doing a lot of cardio and strength training which counted towards mileage.

So, I hope to have a fresh start this coming week. Snow, freezing temps, or cold rain....I'm going to push to meet my goals.

Wow Jess, don't beat yourself up about my sparkmail ... you've done your homework in SPADES, girlfriend!

Lol, the West Indies (not Indian) cricket team are (as I'm typing this) playing Australia in their 2nd one day match. OZ killed them in the first match. They are looking a bit more formidable at the moment tho'.

I know absolutely nothing about rugby or American football. I follow Aussie rules (AFL) football and barrack for Collingwood. What is curling? Funny name for a sport, eh.

I'd better not tell my son that 6 February is Lame Duck Day as that's his birthday! What am I going to do on 9th February ... I don't have a bathtub! Bwah! 17th February is a MUST day for everyone as is Random Acts Of Kindness Day.. now THAT is cool and we all should do something special for someone 'off the cuff'.

Wow! Yes Jess, there is so much going on. Ain't life grand!!

MissG,

My thoughts are with you. It is hard, I know, when a loved one is ill, to take time to take care of yourself. Remember there are people here, not just pixels, who are thinking of you and sending you prayer and support.

With much admiration,

Jessie

Hey, all--

Hubby is still recovering from triple bypass surgery. Today we had to go back to the doctor office because he has developed an infection in the incision.

I've managed to get in some workouts through all this, but still feeling completely off-balance and finding it very hard to get any work done.

This evening is the last one that is mother is here in town, so I am going to get a massage this evening, because I deserve it.

Happy February Everyone!

It promises to be a busy month.

In the US the first weekend of February is an important one: not only is Groundhog Day on Saturday, but Sunday is Superbowl Sunday. What if we have more bad weather, according to the groundhog!?! emoticon And what if my team loses!?! emoticon

Then its time to get ready for Mardi Gras emoticon and Laissez le bon temps rouler emoticon !

On to Valentine's Day emoticon and sweet interludes emoticon .

Near Earth Asteroid (NEA) 2012 DA14 has its annual flyby of the earth on February 15, 2013 but won't have any affect on the planet. That's good, because I really need to finish my walk before the world comes to an end. emoticon (There doesn't seem to be an emoticon for an asteroid missing the earth.)

In the US most schools will be out for President's Day, emoticon celebrating the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln, and providing a long weekend to recover from the previous week emoticon .

Yes, a busy month ahead. So easy to add all of these things to the reasons not to walk today.

... because the dogs look tired
....so depressed and demoralized, can't get up and going
.....I don't want to even though I need to
......there are no sidewalks here and I don't want to fall in a ditch
.......It is too dark; it is too cold; it is too hot; it is too early; it is too late; my feet hurt; I need new walking shoes; I don't have anyone to go with; I'm too old; I work hard all day and I'm tired; I go to work too early in the morning, so there's no time in the a.m. hours; I get home too late, so there is no time in the p.m. hours;

Need I say more? emoticon

Let's give each other a helping hand this month emoticon and include our best reasons why we got out and walked/biked/exercised/moved today, along with our miles emoticon .

You are all such great inspirations to me. emoticon
