Pledge to spend 10 minutes outdoors or next to a window first thing in the morning once this week. emoticon

How to do it
Choose a day when you anticipate clear weather (check the weather report if you want to be sure!). On the morning of that day, step outside - or stand by a window with the shades open - as soon as you can after waking, and stay for at least 10 minutes. Leave yourself a reminder the night before if you think you might forget.

Why it matters
Light (or the absence of it) tells our brains when it's time for sleep and when it's time to get up and get moving by stimulating the production of serotonin which promotes a good mental outlook and fights Seasonal Affective Disorder. It also stimulates the pineal gland which produces melatonin. Melatonin is one of the chemicals that operates our bodies clocks and helps with sleep function. We can get this crucial nutrient from food, but 90% of what we need is absorbed from the sun.
We're born to connect light with active behavior, so giving yourself some early morning sunshine will provide you with a little energy boost as you start your day.
