How to do it
Between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner today, create a high-energy snack that combines a bit of protein, fat, and complex carbohydrate. Some tasty examples: an apple and a small wedge of cheese, all-natural peanut butter on whole-grain bread, yogurt with fruit and a handful of nuts thrown in, tomato with cottage cheese or fresh mozzarella, or carrots dipped in hummus.

Why it matters
When you eat complex carbohydrates in combination with protein and healthy fats, the fiber helps to release the energy into your system over time, rather than all at once in a rush. This means that your snack will provide the power you need to get you through the rest of the day!

Fun Fact
In New Zealand, trail mix is called scroggin, for "sultanas, carob, raisins, orange peel, grains, glucose, imagination, and nuts."
