Draw a floor plan of your home from memory and locate the fire exits.

How to do it
From memory, draw a quick map or floor plan of your home. Include all smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, doors, and windows. Show two ways out of every room on the map, and circle where your fire extinguishers are located. When you're done, walk around your home with your drawing and see how accurate your recollection was.

Why it matters
Every second counts in a fire, and even a small fire can escalate and become dangerous very quickly. A home fire escape plan with two ways out of every room is critical. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your home and in every bedroom. Carbon monoxide alarms should be installed in the hallway near every sleeping area, as well.

Fun Fact
The first home smoke detector wasn't invented until 1965, and it took another decade before smoke detectors were commercially available to the public.

We will continue more on this subject since it is so important and can't be covered in one challenge well.
