Toni, I have been widowed since March 26th, 2008, so I have been alone for almost 7years, but, it is still a lonely road and I have been attending Church and going to different activities for just about as long, it still doen not stop the emptiness, I have met a lot of new people also. I just wish I could Retire!!

Rosie, sad to hear you have lost your spouse. I'm know it's hard at our age to make new friends, but it's worth it. I hope you find a way to join a group or get out to meet people in your community or church.

Best to you. emoticon

great Ideas. In busy lives we forget to let the ones closest know how important they are.My best friend has been helping with my childcare. She is top of my list for a thank you letter.

I have a drawer I need to empty and clean out. And I know just the person to write to, have been putting it off. I thanked my son-in-law yesterday for the great husband he is to my daughter and father to my granddaughter. I make an effort to say something encouraging to at least one person every day. And hubby is taking the day off to spend with me tomorrow. We may go to the arboretum.

___ Time to think about medical check-ups. Whether they are due now or much later, you can stay on top of your health by making appointments including: annual physical, blood work, teeth cleaning, eye exam, OB/GYN visit and so forth. Make your health a priority.

___ Clear your center desk drawer. (Or that spot you stuff with pens, pencils, rubber bands and oddities.) Dump it onto your counter. Wipe out the drawer. Sort the contents. Test the pens and markers. Discard those that don't write. Sharpen the pencils. Throw away the junk. Place everything back in an organized fashion. Doesn't it feel good to be able to reach in and find what you need?

___ Fill in your calendar. Don't miss an event. Get those dates out of your head and into your calendar. Sit down and enter a year's worth of book club, kids' school days off, holidays, meetings and more.

1) Write a note to someone...by hand Everyone loves to receive a heartfelt, handwritten note. Make it a point this week to make someone’s day by writing a letter in your own handwriting and mailing it to them.

2) Say ‘Thank You’ It is very easy to take someone for granted...perhaps your spouse who has been taking the trash out for 20 years, or your mom who cares enough to call you every single day, or a friend who always babysits your kids without asking for anything in return. Take the time to tell them how much you appreciate them!

3) Go on a date When was the last time you went to the theater or some other special event with your spouse? Talk with your better half about a fun outing...and then go on it together. Leave the kids with grandma.

4) Talk it out Is something in your relationship causing tension? This week is the perfect time to have a heart-to- heart and talk it out.

5) Read a book together When was the last time you read to someone, or someone read to you? Choose a book that you and your spouse would enjoy and then read it to each other...you read one chapter, your partner reads the next, and then keep going back and forth. My husband and I once read Don Quixote this way...it was a blast and opened up a ton of great conversation at the end of each chapter
