____ Dec 1 Begin with a calendar, list events coming up this month, or other important dates to remember. If planning a party, get your invitations sent early before there are too many schedule conflicts. If you need to coordinate when and where holidays are spent, get it done now.

____ Dec 2 If you have a healthcare flexible spending account, it may insist that the money you contribute be spent before the end of the year or lose it. Donít let that money go to waste. Schedule any appointments or buy any medicines you need this month.

____ Dec 3 If your traditions include a family holiday picture, schedule a time. Be sure everyone has clean clothes.

____ Dec 4 Dust up and down. Go through your home with a long handled duster and get those cobwebs from high corners and the dust from the baseboards.

____ Dec 5 Pick up and tidy your house every day. December, by its nature, tends to bring in extra clutter. Try to stay on top of it.

____ Dec 6 Cook once, eat twice (or maybe three times). Make extra servings and freeze a meal for a future hectic evening.

____ Dec 7 Check your oven with an oven thermometer. You donít want to find out it is not working right on the day you plan to do cookies or roast a turkey.

____ Dec 8 If you send holiday cards, get them all addressed. Do you have enough stamps? Then get them into the mail. If you will be mailing packages, check the last date you can ship things so they arrive on time. Take them to the post office as far ahead as you can so you can avoid long, last minute lines.

____ Dec 9 Check under all sinks for unexpected leaks. If you have the misfortune to find one, look for other little plumbing jobs that might need fixing. Then call the plumber.

____ Dec 10 Make cookie dough ahead of time and freeze. Freeze it flat in a freezer plastic bag and it will thaw faster. By making several doughs on the same day, you save on clean up time.

____ Dec 11 Host a holiday ornament exchange.

____ Dec 12 Poinsettia Day. This cheery plant is named for American Joel Roberts Poinsett, who sent cuttings of the plant he'd discovered in Southern Mexico to the US in 1828. If you have not already bought a poinsettia to brighten your home, consider doing so.

____ Dec 13 Finish your holiday shopping. Check gift wrapping supplies too and be sure you have what you need.

____ Dec 14 If your tradition includes cutting a tree, schedule a time early, before they become picked over. Keep your fresh tree watered.

____ Dec 15 Get your gift wrapping done while the kids are at school or involved in other activities. Reward yourself with a long, relaxing soak in the tub.

____ Dec 16 Clean guest rooms and extra bathrooms.

____ Dec 17 Hanukkah begins. Enjoy time with family and friends.

____ Dec 18 Have a cookie baking day. Before you begin, make a holiday playlist or CD to enjoy while you bake.

____ Dec 19 Keep sidewalks and porch clear of snow and ice for the mailman, delivery people and guests, as well as for yourself.

____ Dec 20 Go Caroling Day (really). Get some neighborhood friends and go caroling from house to house. Finish with hot chocolate and cookies.

____ Dec 21 Do you have a 'gift closet'? Be sure you have plenty of little incidental giftsóhostess gifts, gifts for people you forgot, teacher gifts. New holiday towels or special food items are good to have on hand.

____ Dec 22 Sit down with a cup of tea and think. What is left to do? What are your priorities? What tasks could you eliminate? If everything is under control, pat yourself on
the back. If not, prioritize your chores and get them done.

____ Dec 23 Do any last minute grocery shopping. Is your turkey thawed, or will it be by the day you want to cook it?

____ Dec 24 Double check your TO DO list so all is ready for the big day. Do one more last minute tidy of the house.

____ Dec 25 Enjoy the holiday with family, friends, and pets. Be sure that ribbons and other objects that could be chewed and swallowed by pets are kept carefully away. Take pictures of the kids with presents they have received to include with thank you notes.

____ Dec 26 Pick up the clutter. Write thank you notes and send. If you enjoy the post Christmas sales, plan your stops so you do not backtrack.

____ Dec 27 If you had a real tree, find out if there is a special date for tree pick up, if your city does that.

____ Dec 28 Write out some goals for the new year, so youíre ready to start them on January 1st.

____ Dec 29 Clean out your email. Delete or archive all you can for a fresh start in 2014.

____ Dec 30 Return any gifts that donít work for you. Exchange them or get a store credit.

____ Dec 31 If you are going to a New Yearís Eve party, allow plenty of time in traffic to arrive. Be safe. If you are not partying, consider a movie night, with just family or close friends.

Happy New Year, 2015!
