I like the idea of a collective challenge we share.
Personally I don't have a garage, so I can't say anything about this specific idea...

Since the site hasn't posted a monthly challenge since May, I suggest and challenge that we declutter our storage space or garage this August if the site doesn't post an August challenge by next Monday. Also, I am giving a link to suggestions for a garage sale that is posted on that site. See www.ineedmoretime.com/organize%20a%2
0g
arage%20sale.htm
. Most of the suggestions can also work for a yard sale.

I notice that the posted monthly challenges are for months 2 and 5 so a challenge every three months may be the rule. Next week we should know. In the future we might post our own challenges if the site, I Need More Time dot com, continues to post monthly challenges only every 3 months. We could also vote on a weekly challenges from a list of challenges suggested by team members at the end of each month, like they select books to read each month in the book group.
Heck I made a suggestion that could take up a just the week of August 2-8 with a yard/garage sale on the week of August 30-Sept 6. Maybe others will suggest challenges for those and other weeks of August.
What are your feelings about picking our challenges democratively rather then simply following another site? Whatever is picked, I would research and provide links/information on the picked topics.

Is this challenge still going? Can I just jump in?

May Challenges

Week One: This week, let's organize our files. Go through them and pull out any you no longer need. Then go through each file and clear out any old, unnecessary papers and shred. Then make a list of your files and attach it to your file cabinet or file box. No, it's not fun but it sure feels good after it's completed.

Week Two: How are your finances? Do you have a budget? Have you reviewed it lately? This week, either make a new budget or revamp your old one. Go through your credit card and checking account statements for the last six months to figure out what categories you need to include. For a copy of my personal budget categories, click here now.

Week Three: Living Area. Look around your family room or great room this week. Is furniture placement working for you? Is there clutter anywhere? Do you need a better storage system for movies and games and toys? What can you do this week to organize your living area(s)?

Week Four: Bookcases. This week, remove everything from your bookcases, if you have any. Fill at least one container with books and items you can donate or sell. Make a plan before you stuff everything back onto your bookcase. How can you make it look nice? How can you organize the contents better? www.ineedmoretime.com/

I think that next week is going to be amazing. My daughter is home-schooled, so that makes it hard to keep the paper out of the living room and I spend a lot of time helping her with her school work. To make things worse, my husband does not like a clean house. He complains that he is afraid that he is going to get yelled at if he leaves marks on the glass coffee table with his cups (which does happen).

Next week, my daughter goes to a week-long science lab (which she loves) and my hubby is going to be out studying for an exam. I just realized that I have the whole house to myself to transform into whatever I want... now I just don't know where to start! LOL! There is so much to do! Any suggestions?

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

I keep my papers in a box lid (from a copy paper box) in the living room. Not too pretty, but functions and it holds a surprising amount. I went through and sorted the bills and junk mail this weekend and realized there's still easily a year's worth of stuff I need to file. Doesn't seem like that long since I last filed, but I guess it must have been when I did last year's taxes based on the bottom of the pile!

I think after I do this year's taxes, I'll file and then switch to a prettier bin that's large enough to hold letter-size paper but no more than 6-8 inches deep so I have to deal with it more frequently.

I need to re-locate the incoming mail to another spot. Currently, it collects of one of the kitchen counters, so there is a constant pile of papers to deal with. The problem is if I put it in another room it won't get dealt with [bills paid on time, etc.]. Maybe I'll re-locate them downstairs in a desktop in/ out file tray ?? Where do you all deal with your mail?

Right now I can only use this as inspiration to clear my "hot spots" every night. And even this is a challenge.

Having just downsized in August, from a 3/2 to a 1/1, most of this has been done already. I only have the necessities on my very minimal counter space. I re-organized and re-arranged my pantry and tupperware about three weeks ago. So I guess this one is done!

Here are February's challenges. Good luck!

Week One: Kitchen Counters. This week, remove everything from your kitchen counters. Wipe them clean. What do you use every single day? Place those items back on the counter. Everything else needs to find a home elsewhere. If you don't have room for those items, place them in a container for a week or two because we are moving on to drawers and cabinets in weeks two and three.

Week Two: Kitchen Drawers. Empty every drawer in your kitchen. Look at each item. When is the last time you used it? If you don't remember, place it in a donation or sell box. Cutlery trays and office supply trays can help you organize small items in drawers. Once you have gone through every item, sort into categories and store in drawers near where you will use the items. For example, place pot holders in a drawer near the stove and cutlery near the table or dish washer (your preference). Need help organizing your kitchen? Try "The Ultimate Organized Kitchen Report!"

Week Three: Kitchen Cabinets. You'll need extra time for this week's challenge. Empty every cabinet, and clean them out. Look at every item as you remove it. If you haven't used it recently then place it in a donate or sell box. If it is a holiday item and you are short on space, store it with your holiday decorations. Making sure to place items near where they are used (drinkware near the fridge), put items back into cabinets.

Week Four: Meal Planning. You'll be more organized and save time if you plan meals each week. Make a list of your family's favorite meals. Now, make a menu for next week. Need help? Send an email to meal_planning@sendfree.com for a free example. Then simply make up your grocery list (You should know what's in your fridge and freezer after last week's challenge) and shop.

I'm late posting the January challenge, somehow I missed it:
I haven't found the link to it, but I have it in an email and Barbara did give me permission to post this as long as I gave her credit.
Here are January's challenges. Good luck!

Week One: Go through your holiday decorations as you take them down. Get rid of anything you didn't use this year. Store decorations by room or by floor of your home. Label clearly.

Week Two: Take a break. Rest up from the holiday rush. Think about taking the 2014 Organizing Challenge that will start next week. Prepare yourself mentally to declutter your home and finally get organized.

Week Three: Fridge/Freezer. Think about access. Remove items from the refrigerator one shelf at a time and wash the shelf. Discard outdated items. Assign leftovers to one shelf, beverages to another, etc. Start a habit or clearing out once a week before trash day. Go through your freezer and make a list of what's available so nothing goes to waste. Wow! A clean and sparkly fridge makes me want to cook more.

Week Four: Remove everything from your kitchen pantry (or food in cabinets if you don't have a pantry). Discard any expired items. Set up a back-up storage area in your basement or garage if you don't yet have one. Organize by category. For example, my pantry is rather small with four shelves and a drawer. The drawer holds bread and the shelves hold (from top to bottom) 1. baking items and back ups that I don't want to put in basement pantry, 2. snacks, 3. food prep items such as rice, pasta and peanut butter, 4. breakfast items.

That's it for January! Get started today. You can do it!

Would you like to finally get organized in 2014? Let's work together to make it happen! Here's how...

Each month, I will list your weekly challenges on www.ineedmoretime.com . We will work on them together and share our results. You may not have time to complete them every week. That's okay. Even if you only participate in two challenges each month, your house will be more organized at the end of this year than it was at the beginning.
