____ Feb 1 Now is a good time to plan dates and destinations for your summer vacations. Planning early will give you the opportunity to take advantage of cheaper rates for flights and accommodations.

____ Feb 2 Gather friends and family to share favorite finger food dishes to pass while watching the Super Bowl. Provide another activity such as a board game or puzzle for non-football fans.

____ Feb 3 Clean your silverware drawer. Wash your utensil tray with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly. Also, wash the drawer of dust and dirt. Weed out any utensils that you no longer use.

____ Feb 4 Organize your boots and winter footwear. Keep them together in one location. Give away to charity any footwear you no longer need.

____ Feb 5 Go around your house and pick up small throw rugs. Take them outside and give them all a good shaking. Use a commercial laundry mat to wash throw rugs that are machine washable.

____ Feb 6 Organize a batch of family photos. Investigate online programs as well as how to organize printed photos. Ideas for storage include: making a hard-bound book of an event, uploading digital pictures to online storage sites, and/or backing up pictures on discs for storage in a safe deposit box.

____ Feb 7 Make healthy smoothies today. A simple, basic recipe includes: one cup of vanilla yogurt, two cups of frozen berries, and one small banana. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

____ Feb 8 Bake Valentine cookies in heart shapes. These cookies can be frozen for frosting and decorating at another time.

____ Feb 9 Create a list of people to send Valentines, and then make simple homemade Valentines. Use stickers or paper doilies to decorate.

____ Feb 10 Clean your kitchen stove top today. Take off grills and reflections pans. Wipe clean the bottom of the stove with hot soapy water and then clean grills and heating coils. If you have a glass top stove, clean with a product made for this purpose.

____ Feb 11 Dust the top of your refrigerator today. After pulling your refrigerator away from the wall, vacuum and dust the coils.

____ Feb 12 Organize your recipe collection today by placing all of your loose recipes in plastic sheets and then place these sheets in a binder.

____ Feb 13 Today is a good day to organize all of your computer passwords. Put your passwords together in an alphabetical list. Store this list in a secure location.

____ Feb 14 Valentine’s Day! Frost your heart cookies today and deliver to your list of recipients with their homemade card.

____ Feb 15 If weather permits, now is a good time to prune back your deciduous plants and shrubs. Your local Master Gardener expert can give you tips on how to best prune for best growth.

____ Feb 16 Have a family photo shoot today. Take several digital photos of different groups and individuals. Take traditional photos but also make some silly photos.

____ Feb 17 Today is President’s Day. Gather supplies you need for baking a cherry pie from scratch or buy a cherry pie and invite guests over to share.

____ Feb 18 Take down ceiling light fixture coverings and wash them in hot soapy water. Dry the coverings thoroughly before replacing.

____ Feb 19 Organize your jewelry collection. Keep all jewelry in one location. Necklaces can be hung on small hooks or knobs. Individual earrings can be placed in egg carton sections. Decide what jewelry you want to keep and what you can give away

____ Feb 20 Clean out your bathroom makeup drawer. Take everything out, and then wash the drawer. Sort through your make up supply and discard any items that are old and not used.

____ Feb 21 Does your family have a fire escape plan? Today is a good day to talk about a plan and then have a fire drill. Be sure to have a place outside the home where all members meet.

____ Feb 22 Check your local newspaper or online for local events that are happening today or visit a local museum.

____ Feb 23 Make homemade bread today as a family. The result can be eaten together with an assortment of jams and jellies.

____ Feb 24 File and organize your household financial statements and papers. Use file folders that have been labeled.

____ Feb 25 Check your supply of mugs and coffee cups. Take out all items on the shelf and then clean the shelf. Return only the hot beverage cups that you love and use. Purge cups that have chips or are not used.

____ Feb 26 Dust and polish all smooth surfaces in the bedrooms. This includes dressers, night stands and chest of drawers.

____ Feb 27 Clean your house light switches from hand prints and dust. Use a bucket of hot water with vinegar. Clean with a sponge and then dry. Also, clean door knobs and door handles.

____ Feb 28 Make a simple crock-pot dinner today. Place cut up vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, onion and celery on the bottom of the crock pot. Then place meat on top such as chicken thighs. Cover this with about one cup of barbeque sauce. Cook on low for about six to eight hours.
