This December list is great! I just joined and I will work on the last few days. I am really looking forward to the January list.

I broke down and got rid of some old Christmas decorations as I brought them out this year. I was looking at the after Christmas sales and had some ornaments in hand. Then I thought about it: nope! I put them down.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I didn't get through many of them, so I plan to start over in January and do the ones that don't apply directly to Christmas. So many of them are good for any month.

I have pulled out my Christmas cards and have the stamps. I will spend the next few days/weeks hand writing the addresses. I usually do that while watching TV at night with my hubby. A few at a time makes it less of a chore.

December 2013 Organizing Checklist by Maria Gracia http://www.getorganizednow.com

____ Dec 1 Make your Christmas card or email greeting list. Print out address labels or handwrite the addresses and have the envelopes ready to go. Take some time and write a special greeting to close friends and family. Place stamps on the envelopes and set by your purse ready to mail.

____ Dec 2 Clean your kitchen cabinets with some wood oil soap and then polish them with lemon oil. They will be nice and shiny and your kitchen will smell terrific.

____ Dec 3 Finish up your Christmas shopping. Remember to get a few generic, inexpensive gifts for unexpected guests.

____ Dec 4 Plan and cook some freezer meals which you can pop into the oven or crock pot for those busy December nights.

____ Dec 5 Clean the inside windows in at least two rooms. Vacuum out the window tracks and use an old toothbrush to loosen any stubborn dirt.

____ Dec 6 Prepare your holiday menus and grocery list. Take advantage of any coupons or specials on various items.

____ Dec 7 Make a family trip to the library to check out some holiday books and movies.

____ Dec 8 Make fudge, popcorn balls, or other treats with the family. Deliver plates to the neighbors.

____ Dec 9 Clean behind furniture and rearrange the room in preparation for setting up your Christmas tree.

____ Dec 10 Take some time and do maintenance on your computer. Run a virus scan, defrag the hard drive, and delete any programs that you no longer use or need. This will help your computer to run better and faster.

____ Dec 11 Clean your front porch and entry way. Sweep the sidewalk and porch, or shovel snow if you have some. Be sure and put de-icer on the steps, if needed. Wipe up the footprints and debris in your entry way, remove any cobwebs, and shake off the entry rugs and welcome mat.

____ Dec 12 Prepare places for any guests you may have coming for the holidays. Wash extra bedding, arrange baskets or boxes of toiletries for their use, and collect or purchase extra towels.

____ Dec 13 Spend the evening with your spouse, a friend, or your children watching those must-see classic holiday movies. Don't forget the blankets, hot chocolate, and popcorn.

____ Dec 14 Change your smoke detector batteries and the furnace filter.

____ Dec 15 Gather your family and go visit the elderly in a nursing home. Prepare some Christmas carols to sing and make some cards and decorations to give to them. You will
brighten their day with the spirit of the holidays.

____ Dec 16 Create a list of daily tasks still needed to do before the holidays. This will help you stay on task and keep exhaustion at bay.

____ Dec 17 Upload any photos on your camera to your computer. Organize them using a photo organizing software, like Picasa. Print out a few of your favorites and frame them.

____ Dec 18 Sort through your children's toys and donate the gently used ones. This will create space for the gifts your children will be receiving, and will help others at the same time.

____ Dec 19 Clean out the refrigerator. Wipe down shelves, walls, and the door. Throw away outdated items and replace those items you need. Be sure and recycle any plastic containers.

____ Dec 20 Gather your family and friends and go Christmas caroling around your neighborhood.

____ Dec 21 Celebrate the first day of winter. Make a special treat and start reading a holiday book together with your family.

____ Dec 22 Spend the evening with family, friends, or neighbors looking at the holiday lights and decorations in the neighborhood.

____ Dec 23 If you are going away for the holidays, call and place a hold on your mail and newspaper delivery.

____ Dec 24 Prepare your dining area with plates, glasses, and silverware. Also, fix any part of the holiday meals which can be prepared ahead of time.

____ Dec 25 Enjoy the day and keep it low key. Spend time catching up with each other, playing games, and having a fun time with loved ones.

____ Dec 26 Clean up wrappings, paper, and boxes. Be sure and recycle.

____ Dec 27 Organize and find places for all your new gifts. As you put away the new consider donating some old items. This will help cut down the clutter in your home, will give new life to items you no longer use, and will help others.

____ Dec 28 Take advantage of the sales for any items you truly need. Set and stay within your budget.

____ Dec 29 Get a new calendar for 2014. Fill in all recurring dates, and other known dates.

____ Dec 30 Take some time to set your goals and plans for the New Year.

____ Dec 31 Enjoy celebrating the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014. No matter where you celebrate, stay safe.
