Feeling stressed is normal—yes, it’s normal. We can’t eliminate the situations that are making us feel stressed, but we do have the power to change how we respond to those feelings.

If your first instinct is to head to the fridge, take five minutes to try one of the below ideas instead:.

🧘 Focus on your breath, going in and out.
🌿 Head outside, focusing on what you see, hear, and smell.
💭 Remind yourself you’ve got this.Think of similar stressful situations that you have overcome in the past. What tools helped you respond to those stressors?
☎️ Reach out. Call or text a friend or family member.

When five minutes is up, check-in with yourself to see if eating is still top of mind. If it is, give it a go. You already made a powerful step toward changing the habit to connect food and stress. And you’ll be able to make a more conscious choice.

How do you handle to stress eating?

When I get stressed I have the opposite problem. I don't want to eat! So I make sure to choose something healthy to fuel my body even when I don't feel like it!

I try to do some of the suggestions above. Sometimes they work while I'm eating my stress. But, at least I'm aware!

I write out my emotions—if I am not home I voice record on my cell or type a note on my phone.,,scribble on a napkin or envelope... I just get it out! 🖌📖

This one of the most important things WW taught me. One of my leaders would say" if the problem isn't hunger, food isn't the solution. "

Really needed to hear this today. I’ve been in a stressful state for several months now and with school starting up in some way soon I am feeling more stressed than ever. Great message.

Feeling sneak up on me and I don't realize something is going on. Lately, my BP is a good indication! It was horribly high for a couple of weeks, including while I was in the hospital, and I've been paying closer attention to the tension in my body.
